Welcome new 4-H Families! With the a new 4-H year starting, we have several projects for youth to participate in. We are very grateful for our amazing volunteers to lead the 4-H program. We hope you take advantage of the available projects and events. Remember to set goals, work on your record books throughout the year, become active in your club, and continue to Make the best, better! 4 4-H News Page 4 4-H News Enroll in 4-H for the year! Enrollment for the is open! Membership is open to all youth without regard to race, ethnicity, color, national origin, gender-identity, sex, pregnancy, disability, sexual orientation, genetic information, veteran's status, marital status, religion, political affiliation or socioeconomic backgrounds. 4-H Clover buds ages 5 8 years old which are non-competitive and 4-H Members ages 9 19 years old who can enter in competitive contests. Remember the Santa Cruz County 4-H program charges $20.00 dues for the year. Enroll at: Make sure to enroll on 4-HOnline, if you need help visit for a helpful guide. Make sure to select any of the projects you are interested in! It is ok to delete them later but it is important to sign up for them so leaders can contact you. Won 1st place and the right to represent the state of Arizona at the National Livestock Contest in Louisville, Kentucky, November Leader: Amanda Zamudio, 4-H Volunteer & Patagonia FFA Chapter Advisor. Best of luck in Louisville! Livestock Skillathon Contest Junior Team: consisted of 4-H members: Addison Tomlinson, Sebastian Padilla, Tyler Young, and Brett Gronlund. Members on the senior team include: Brianna Young (9th high individual), Marin Tomlinson (5th high individual), Sarah Lyman (3rd high individual), and Lauren Fletcher (1st high individual). Members of the Patagonia FFA Chapter Team included Carolina Quiroz (7th high individual), Ralphie Quiroz (6th place individual), Juliana Quiroga (3rd place individual) and John Hubbell (1st place individual). John Hubbell and Lauren Fletcher also won buckles and $ in prize money.

Arroyo Blvd Nogales, AZ The County Extension Office will then forward all applications from your county to the Arizona 4-H Youth Foundation Office by the Foundation Deadline. No Exceptions. 7 4-H Scholarships Page 7 4-H Scholarships Santa Cruz County 4-H 2019 Scholarship Seniors as you continue your journey after high school onto college, vocational school, or any other secondary education we would like to help you. My advice is apply to all you can because college is expensive and we want to help. Scholarship Application Due: April 5, 2019 by 5:00 P.M. The Santa Cruz County 4-H scholarship is due the first Friday in April to me or your 4-H community club leader. You do not have to apply each year. 9 4-H Opportunities Page 9 4-H Opportunities We are looking for 4-H Members who may be interested in becoming a Camp Counselor at 4-H Wildcat Camp July 11th -14th, There will be a mandatory informational meeting in Sonoita on January 23rd at 6:00PM. There will also be informational meetings in Pima County on January 22nd and Cochise County on January 24th for those that cannot attend the one in Santa Cruz. We will be conducting interviews on the following dates: January 29th in Pima County, January 31st in Santa Cruz County, and February 1st in Cochise County We will then have two mandatory camp counselor training dates on February 9th in Sierra Vista and May 18th in Sonoita. Transportation available. We are looking for 3 counselors from each county ages More details to come! Camp Counselors will attend camp for free. 17 4-H Leaders Page 17 4-H Leaders Who Are 4-H Leaders? 4-H leaders support youth as they learn by doing by providing guidance and opportunities for meaningful leadership roles in their 4-H club and community. What are the responsibilities of 4-H leaders? Develop a caring relationship with members. Create a safe environment for 4-H members. Provide opportunities for youth to build skills Create opportunities for youth to value and practice service to others. Allow youth to make decisions and lead. Create an inclusive environment. Keep-up-to-date and trained What qualifications/skills do 4-H leaders need? Sincere interest in the safety and well-being of youth. Desire to facilitate and motivate youth while nurturing self-esteem, decision-making skills, responsibility, and leadership. Successfully pass the volunteer training process. Ability to organize information and materials and delegate responsibility. Ability to work and communicate effectively both verbally and written. Desire to motivate parents and other volunteers Interest in working in partnership with youth, other volunteers and professional staff in an educational setting. Willingness to adopt the philosophy, policies, and procedures of your 4-H organization Can you spot Positive Youth Development in action?
