Gilakasla! Welcome! Come as you are, without expectations or pre-judgement about our coming together!
A Comprehensive Community Approach to the Development and Delivery of Health Care Services, with Nursing Services as a Focal Point CULTURE AS THE FOUNDATION FOR WELLNESS
Wuikinuxv & Gwayee Villages Isolated communities with minimal access to health care services Small communities with minimal funding due to population driven formula
Taking Action Together we intended to address the current situation and demonstrate the possibilities for efficient and effective healthcare through a community lead process of program design and integrated approach.
Remember Who You Are and Where You Came From Self The importance of self and the personal responsibility to be healthy so that we can be healthy in our relatingness with others and our contributions to the community Relatingness Unity, sharing, caring. Everything we do is in a relationship with others. Taking the time to value and build relationships. Respect Respect for all of creation. Acceptance of all that is and all that isn t. Spirit Gratitude and Belonging. A spiritual connection to SELF, FAMILY, COMMUNITY AND THE LAND AND ENVIRONMENT..
Incorporating Our Core Values into The Circle of Wellness Community Knowledge Respect Sprit Traditional Knowledge Wellness Systems Knowledge Self Relationship Health Knowledge
Systems Knowledge Partnerships and Collaboration Community Elders, Leaders, Chief and Council Community Members and Service Recipients Education and Practice Partners NIC LCAN Circle of Wellness Tula Foundation, Nursing Consultants Community Health and Related Professionals collaborative partners VIHA, FNIH,ITHA, Coastal health physicians, other?
Traditional Knowledge Relatingness Everything has consequences for something else The fundamental philosophy underlying traditional Aboriginal healing practices is the interconnection of the individual with nature, family, community, society, our ancestors and the universe Universe Society Nature Family Individual Community
A Wholistic Approach to Health Care focusing on the four aspects of SELF and Spiritual Physical Wellness Emotional Mental
The four areas of relatingness. SOCIAL CULTURAL Wellness Environmental Contribution
Community Knowledge
Firm resolve that community must be in charge of its own destiny You can not solve a problem with the same mind(set) that created it! Einstein. We have to go outside the deficiency model of modern medicine to resolve our community issues!
Health Professional Knowledge Professional Standards For (Registered Nurses) Knowledge Competence Accountability Service Ethics Self Regulation
Practice Education Administration Research
Health Professional Practice to reflect Community Standards Health Professional Practice Standards
Education Priorities Sharing traditional health practice and knowledge, For example collaborating with the marine and land use project to record traditional medicinal knowledge Ongoing training and community drills to maintain skills of first responders. enhance community capacity for providing health and wellness care through education and training opportunities for CHRs and other interested community members Provide opportunities for health care providers to come to the community to learn from the community about providing health care for aboriginal people.
Priorities for Administration of health services Coordinate Jurisdictional Issues Health services being offered from different places, Port Hardy Port McNeil, Campbell River, Bella Bella, Bella Cola. No coordination and large gaps in service. Coordinate emergency response service and include marine response Ensure people are Medi-vaced when needed for emergency services to the right hospital, for example not transferred from Port McNeil to Campbell river.
Ensure Patient travel for health reasons is effective and efficient. Travel services and health services for non Status residents Ensure medical supplies are available and updated especially O2, we also need a defibrillator Comprehensive health services Dental care Create a safe community - safe houses for children - appropriate response to community violence and coordination with RCMP
Moving toward wellness We come together as a community - a crisis does not create our community We attract health by focusing on our vision of a healthy community Culture as the foundation for wellness!
