1 The Masonic Messenger Iowa Masonic 2500 Grant St. Bettendorf, Iowa 12/1/2017 iowamasonic.com Greetings from Cris As I watch the flurry of activity this week as our Mansion and other areas of the building are transformed into a holiday wonder, I can t help but think back on what 2017 was like here at Masonic. In my almost 20 years in this profession, I can honestly say I have never experienced the level of uncertainty in healthcare as we are now. We are in the midst of regulatory overhaul, we have a very fragile Medicaid system in our state right now, and our labor shortages only continue to become more of a challenge. Honestly, this year has kept me behind the desk more than I care to be. I know many of our other staff have felt the same way. I thank each and every one of our team members as they have been taking on these challenges with determination and a can do attitude. That is the reason Iowa Masonic will not only survive, but continue to be a leader in our industry. As 2017 winds down, I welcome you to the holiday season at Masonic. Please take a moment to look through this newsletter and our calendars for all the happenings on campus. It truly is a special time of year and I look forward to seeing you there. 6 IN THE KNOW AT IOWA MASONIC In accordance with Fire and Safety codes and regulations, please adhere to the following rules regarding Christmas decorations: (This information does NOT pertain to ) No Live Greenery You may have something decorative for your door (such as a wreath), but it must be held on by a selfadhesive hook. The maintenance department will provide all hooks needed, by request. (NO over the door hangers are allowed.) No extension cords or multi-plug adapters allowed. Battery-operated lights in good repair are acceptable. A Simple Thank You The season of gift giving is upon us again. As a reminder, staff members are prohibited from accepting any type of gift from residents or families. Please help our members follow these rules by refraining from giving them individual gifts. A simple thank you goes a long way in recognizing your appreciation. If you feel strongly about giving the staff something, a plate of goodies left at the nurse's station is acceptable as multiple people are able to share this. TO YOURSELF, RESPECT. Oren Arnold Marking New Items With the holidays approaching, please remember to clearly mark your loved ones new clothing and linens. Simply use a Sharpie Marker to write their name on the inside of their new clothing and linens. Markers are available at each nurses station. This will help prevent any misplacement of items and will help the Laundry Department greatly. Masonic Trivia Did you know that the largest oak staircase in the Quad Cities stands just inside the William Bettendorf Mansion, where our current administrative offices are located, adjacent to Iowa Masonic?
