Very substantial development 1,472 people were employed on site during the 79 week construction period. A number of different community arts projects have been incorporated into the building and have involved extensive consultation and partnering with local community, schools, colleges, artists and arts organisations. 3 Sedbergh Medical Development details elift Cumbria Ltd Express LIFT Investments Ltd Key occupants: Sedbergh Medical Practice Size: 860 sq m Opened: March million Askam The first Express LIFT scheme to be delivered in the UK alongside a Spar retail unit, making a significant contribution to Sedbergh, replacing the existing, inadequate surgery in the town. Extensive consultation with the community and key stakeholders from the outset regarding the design of the building and the facilities to be provided. Architectural characteristics of the area and surrounding national park incorporated into the design of the new medical centre. Almost 80% of the construction spending was awarded to local contractors, within 30 miles of the centre. With new and additional services, a small ward for the local school, high quality training and conference facilities, the centre has become a true community asset. 4 Kentish Town Development details Camden and Islington Community Solutions Ltd Community Solutions Investment Partners (CSIP) Key occupants: Camden PCT, MOSAIC (Camden Council Children s Service) Size: 3829 sq m Opened: December million Morgan Ashurst Plc The purpose built integrated care centre replaced a two storey building which had suffered from a lack of maintenance and subsidence. A high level of design and consultation was required from the outset as the building is located within a conservation area. The building has won two awards; Best Design at the LIFT awards in 2009 and Best Public at the Awards. The building incorporates a mix of providers with a number aimed at delivering community services. 40% of the space is taken by the GP practice (32 GPs to service an increase of nearly 30% in the patient register); 40% by MOSAIC, a child focused service delivered by Camden Council; 10% is taken up by district nurses, dentistry, elderly support and screening and 10% is taken up by a range of other uses. The centre serves a mix of very deprived and affluent areas and the GP practice is now at capacity. Usage has increased significantly e.g. breast screening has gone up by 28% as a result of the fixed service.
