Coming this Fall to a Neighbourhood Near You - Working with Island Health to Reorganize Community Services Here at the Division, we are cautiously optimistic about an Island Health reorganization designed to improve access to community services in our region. In the south island, including Victoria, this will bring the former Home and Community Care and Seniors Health staff together into neighbourhood teams. The Victoria Division has been providing input into this process for the past year. Over the summer we are taking an even more active role, with members of the Care of the Elderly Working Group and Island Health staff working together to decide how information and work will flow between GPs and the neighbourhood teams. We are hopeful the result will be a real shift in how GPs interact with Island Health, and that it will give us better access to the resources available to support our frail, elderly patients. This work builds on the Division's history and commitment to focusing on the needs of frail seniors and making the working lives of our GPs better. Neighbourhood teams will be built in partnership with neighborhood physicians, to benefit all GPs and their patients, rather than just a select few. Watch for upcoming issues of the Newsflash for more information about this work and details about engagement opportunities with the neighbourhood teams in the Fall. In the meantime, please feel free to be in touch with any questions or comments: victoria@divisionsbc.ca. 24.
