1 SENIOR TAX WORK-OFF ABATEMENT PROGRAM PROGRAM YEAR POSITIONS (November 1, October 31, 2018) Applications are due to the Selectmen s Office by 4:30 pm on October 2, 2017 Animal Control Office Assistant (1 position): Once a week (Tuesdays 12:30-4:30 pm). Duties include weekly updates to Excel spreadsheets, tracking time sheets, monitoring the Donation Account, making entries on a spreadsheet and balancing with the Accountant's Office at least quarterly, assisting with letters, filing, collecting the mail at Town Hall, making copies, answering phone calls, and providing pertinent information to callers. When and if all the office duties are completed, light janitorial work, including emptying trash in all the front rooms, cleaning the desks, vacuuming the rugs, and running a load of laundry. Kennel Assistant (3 positions): Average 2-4 hours per week (Saturdays 8am-12pm; Monday-Friday (6pm-10pm). Provide fresh food and water, check/maintain charts for special instructions, assist with meds, clean cat cages/ dog kennels/sinks, wash dishes, restock supplies, empty trash, vacuum, walk dogs, assist with pickup/disposal of dog waste, and locking of kennels. Assessors Office Office Assistant (1 position): Perform a variety of routine and moderately difficult clerical and record keeping functions, including answering phones, taking messages, and answering general inquiries pertaining to assessment of properties, motor vehicle excise, boat excise, personal property tax, senior exemption, veteran s exemptions, etc. Working knowledge of Vision CAMA desired. Collector s Office Clerical Aide (1 position): Performs a variety of routine office duties as well as bookkeeping in the Town s accounting software Munis, including routine office duties such as opening and sorting mail, filing, and preparing notices to be mailed; posting of Deputy Collector account turnovers into the computer system; maintenance of the resident bankruptcy list; and organizing and maintaining the commitment books for real estate, personal property, motor vehicle excise, boat excise and water/sewer. Ability to work with Excel and Word software programs, and experience working with Munis or the ability to learn the software program. Please see detailed job description/requirements. Conservation Land Volunteer (1 position): Assist the Conservation Department with light duty land maintenance/monitoring activities on Kingston conservation lands including replacing Mutt Mitts in Mutt Mitt dispensers, re-filling brochure & map boxes, picking up litter, and reporting problems (e.g. tree blowdowns across trails, vandalism, illegal dumping) to the Conservation office. Work to be performed during the day at a time convenient to the Volunteer. Must use personal vehicle for transportation to properties. Some stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, lifting, and hiking in an outdoor environment. Physical agility and balance are 1

Council on Aging Custodial Assistance (1 position): Routine light custodial and manual work in connection with the care and maintenance of public buildings and grounds and all other related work as required, including clean and disinfect rooms, furniture, washrooms, and toilets; polish furniture, and metal work; vacuum rugs; wash walls, woodwork and windows; clean tables and sinks; dispose of trash; assist in assessment of need of minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical duties in conformance with town policies; operate heating and cooling systems including thermostat, and safety controls; replace lights and performs minor repairs to furniture, buildings, and equipment, as able; may be requested to shovel snow and to maintain grounds surrounding the public buildings, as able. Moderate physical effort, some custodial/maintenance experience, and carpentry skills are required. Please see full description. Host/Hostess (1 position): For Thursday lunches, set up equipment (baskets/donations jar), manage reservation sheets and birthday lists, scan tickets, politely greet guests and those without reservations who cannot be seated, accept funds for lunch and provide tickets, update kitchen staff periodically, and reconcile receipts. Must have an understanding of activities for those with dementia/alzheimer s or other cognitive impairments. Instructors plan, organize, develop and direct the Fall to Summer classes, create and explain projects, and offer support and expertise. Please see full description/requirements. Kitchen Assistant (5 positions): Responsible for assisting with general preparation of food at the Council on Aging, including cooking, preparing, serving and proper food storage and handling; assisting in and using proper procedures for placing, receiving and storing orders; and assisting with weekly inventories and maintaining proper cleaning and sanitation procedures. Utilizes a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment such as blenders, ovens, mixers, grinders, and slicers in the preparation of meals. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, minimum 3 years experience in institutional food preparation, and computer experience required; some education in nutrition or dietary science preferred. Office Assistant (4 positions): Greets all visitors with professionalism, courtesy and friendliness, assists staff, answers phones and supplies answers to general questions, looks up resident information on computers, operates fax, scanner and copier machines, enters requests for transportation in scheduling book, distributes tickets, and assists with event enrollment, along with other light-duty organization. Facilities Adams Center Gardener (1 position): Seasonal gardener (approximately 2.5 hours per week for 25 weeks), independently performs routine gardening work at the Adams Center, such as caring for plantings, annuals and perennials, and hand watering. 3 Library Aide (4 positions): Shelving library materials, shelf-reading of shelves to make sure that items are in order, straightening up the library stacks, processing library materials, and assisting with other clerical tasks to help with library services. Library experience preferred. Some pushing, reaching and bending. Please see full description/requirements. Data Assistant (1 position): Data entry, transcription of handwritten historical documents to make them readable and searchable. Requires use of computer. 1-3 hours per week, days flexible. 4 Kingston Animal Shelter Kennel Assistant Volunteer Duties October 2014 Check Dry Erase Boards, kennel and cage charts for special instructions re: diet, medication, other. Give meds accordingly, make notations. Provide fresh food, water. Check litter boxes; if dirty change box completely. Clean cat cages with disinfectant and paper towels. Replace newspaper, shake out or replace bedding as needed. Clean dog kennels with disinfectant, wash floors of indoor/outdoor kennels as needed. Shake out or replace bedding as needed. Toss soiled linens into washing machine/dryer as needed. Wash all dishes, utensils; clean sink/tubs. Put away anything that needs it. Place all aluminum cans and or cardboard in the recycle bin. Restock dog area and the cat rooms with supplies as needed (i.e. paper products, cleaning products, cat litter, cat or dogfood.) Empty trash cans, replace cans with new trash bag. Take trash to dumpster. Vacuum and/or sweep rooms/runs. Check outside dog areas and poop/scoop needed. Walk dogs as necessary and/or time permitting. Close all doggie doors, windows, make sure all outside kennels are padlocked. Turn off outside kennel lights. Make any notations re: health, habits, incidents, etc in the volunteer logbook. Note date, time etc. Turn off lights, lock up.
5 ASSESSORS SENIOR WORK OFF JOB DESCRIPTION Performs a variety of routine and moderately difficult clerical and record keeping functions to support the Assessors office. Works under the direction of the Assistant Assessor and the Administrative Assessor. Makes frequent contacts with the general public, town departments, and other requiring assistance. Answers telephone, takes messages and answers general inquiries pertaining to Assessment of properties, motor vehicle excise, boat excise, personal property tax, senior exemption, veteran exemptions, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. Is able to be unsupervised at the office when staff is out on inspections, meeting, classes, etc. Assists with department filing and mailings. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of Vision CAMA system. Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, town officials, taxpayers and outside contractors. Ability to maintain confidential information. Ability to operate a computer. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work independently Work Environment The work environment in the Assessor s office is fast paced, detailed oriented and requires training that pertains to the Massachusetts General Laws of Taxation for Real Estate and Personal Property. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Works under the direction of the Conservation Agent and, in the Conservation Agent s absence, the Administrative Assistant. Light duty land maintenance/monitoring activities on Kingston conservation lands. Physical agility and balance are needed to access conservation lands. Volunteer will be subject to various weather conditions and site conditions, including high heat, sun exposure, humidity, wind, rain, snow, and uneven terrain. There can be exposure to potential health hazards, such as Lyme disease, West Nile virus, and plant irritants such as briars, poison ivy/sumac. During hunting season, there may be exposure to hunters on conservation land and appropriate precautions must be taken (e.g. wearing hunter orange).

Independently performs routine custodial functions under specific instructions and with minimum judgment required as to methods or procedures. Job Environment: Work is performed under some unpleasant outdoor and shop conditions with exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, chemicals, heat, cold, and extreme weather conditions. Operates vacuum cleaners, buffers, electric drills, carpentry equipment, snow blower, lawn mower, and other custodial equipment; may be required to wear protective clothing and mask. Makes occasional contacts with other town personnel and the general public; contacts involve discussing very routine information. Errors could result in damage to buildings and equipment, and create some hazards to safety. Essential Functions: Cleans and disinfects rooms, furniture, washrooms, toilets; polishes furniture, floors and metal work; vacuums and cleans rugs; washes walls, woodwork and windows; cleans and disinfects floors; cleans tables and sinks; disposes of trash. Assists in assessment of need of minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical duties in conformance with town policies; operates heating and cooling systems including thermostat, and safety controls; moves and sets up furniture and equipment. Replaces lights and performs minor repairs to furniture, buildings, and equipment; may be required to shovel snow and to maintain grounds surrounding the public buildings. 9 Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience: Six months of experience in custodial and maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Ability and Skill: Knowledge. General knowledge of cleaning materials and methods. Ability. Ability to read and write. Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely fashion. Ability to perform minor maintenance and repairs to equipment. Skill. Basic skills in performing preventive maintenance on building and equipment. Carpentry skills. Basic landscaping skills. Physical Requirements: Moderate physical effort is generally required in performing functions. Position requires extensive walking, reaching, standing, stooping and climbing when performing functions. Frequently required to lift, move, and/or push furniture and equipment which may weigh 30 pounds or more. Physical agility required to access all areas to be cleaned.

Reliable transportat ion to the worksite. Dependability Qualified candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years experience in food preparation in an institutional environment The ability to follow recipes and lift up to forty (40) pounds.
