2 CHAIRPERSON S MESSAGE BRENDA ROBINSON, VCB CHAIRPERSON The Volunteer Centre is in its 41 st year and I would like to shout out a big thank you to the excellent management team and staff. They have worked so very hard to reinvent themselves and went from financial difficulties to growing the business. Two programs have grown from April 2016 to March 2017, they are: Lewis Street an increase of 53% 2. Family Support Services an increase of 198% Last year s message was celebrating the 40 th year of incorporation. When the centre started there were 23 community agencies listed in our Human Resource Directory serving greater Moncton. Now there are 150 community agencies serving our tri-community. The programs that are administered are Family Support Services, Respite Care Services, Shared Attendant Care Services, Weekend Relief Services, Volunteer Core Program and the Volunteer Driver Program. The organization employs close to 70 people. More than ever, the centre is called upon to promote volunteering in our tri-community and nonprofit organizations can entrust the Volunteer Centre with fulfilling their volunteer needs. As it is my firm belief that people should not stay in a position past their best before date, this is my last meeting, I am so proud of this organization and all it has accomplished this past year. It is a privilege to work with the fine people of this organization and the board of directors. Thanks also to each member of the board of directors for their dedicated contribution to this organization. I wish you continued success in the future. 3 ANNETTE VAUTOUR, VCB EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR It gives me great pleasure to invite you to the 41 st annual meeting of the Volunteer Centre of Southeastern New Brunswick Inc. Our Board of Directors, Administration Staff, Family Support Workers, Respite Volunteers, Weekend Relief Volunteers, Attendants at 66 Lewis Street, our Volunteer Drivers and our In- House Volunteers are incredibly empathetic, compassionate, and passionate about their work. The commitment and professionalism of our Staff is evident in all that they do and the high quality of service they provide. They are the core of who we are as an organization. Another major part of who we are is our Volunteers. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of the organization, providing immeasurable contributions to the people we serve, the organization, and the community-at-large. Our volunteers are dedicated, generous and capable individuals who help us provide care and compassion. 4 The Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, ONB Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick Jocelyne Roy Vienneau becomes New Brunswick s 31st Lieutenant Governor, after a long and successful career focused on economic development, the promotion and advancement of education and community engagement. In 2014 she ended her second and final mandate as Vice-President at l Université de Moncton s Shippagan Campus. She holds a Masters in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Applied Science in Industrial Engineering from l Université de Moncton, as well as a teaching certificate from the province of New Brunswick. Throughout her career, she has sought to promote and advance research and innovation. Mme. Roy Vienneau served as Assistant Deputy Minister for Post-Secondary Education for the Province of New Brunswick. She also worked at the New Brunswick Community College in Bathurst for 23 years as dean, department head, professor and finally, principal during the last six years. She began her career as a project engineer at Esso s Imperial Oil refinery in Montreal. Mme. Roy Vienneau was the first woman to occupy a secular position as Vice-President of a campus at l Université de Moncton, the first woman to direct a francophone community college in New Brunswick, and one of the first women to graduate from the Faculty of Engineering at l Université de Moncton. In 2003, she was named Alumni of the Year from l Université de Moncton s engineering faculty. In 2001, during her time as principal of New Brunswick Community College in Bathurst, the school became one of the first two colleges in the country to be eligible for research grants with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Council of Canada. In 2015, she received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Shediac Rotary Club. Mme. Roy Vienneau resides at Government House, with her husband Ronald Vienneau. She is the mother to two grown children, Isabelle and Cédric, and grandmother to Simon, born August 2015.
5 FAMILY SUPPORT SERVICES The philosophy of Family Support Services is that the family is the basic unit of society. Family Support Services are intended to protect, support and enhance the family unit. The Philosophy is consistent with the Family Service Act. Services provided include: in-home support services, supervised visits, parental home relief/leisure and life skills training. *Shawnda Cohen, Program Director (506) SHARED ATTENDANT CARE SERVICES Shared Attendant Care Services is a specially designed accessible residence for benefit and use of disabled persons wishing to enjoy independent living with the community. The Volunteer Centre of Southeastern New Brunswick Inc. provides administrative service on behalf of the Social Development and it's responsible for requested attendant care according to the required needs of the clients. Attendant Care Services administers services on behalf of the Social Development providing attendant support to persons living in the community. *Vanessa Fullerton, Program Coordinator (506) RESPITE CARE SERVICES FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS / WEEKEND RELIEF SERVICES Respite Care Services for Children with Special Needs upholds the same philosophy as the Family Service Act of New-Brunswick specifically that the family is the basic unit of our society. The program is intended to protect, support and enhance families of children diagnosed with developmental disabilities. The primary goal of this program is to provide individualize and responsive relief care to the family. Respite Care Services also offers weekend relief services for children and adults with special needs referred to us by the Social Development. 6 VOLUNTEERING / VOLUNTEER DRIVER PROGRAM If you are interested in volunteering the Volunteer Centre recruits/refers volunteers to over 150 registered community agencies. You can register on-line or schedule an interview for a personal visit. Transportation to appointments for qualifying clients is now possible through a "Volunteer Driver Program" due to the generous support of United Way. The Volunteer Driver Program is being offered to low income individuals who do not qualify for other available driving programs. Transportation is being provided for these clients referred from registered agencies, organizations, medical departments or department referrals. It's now possible for clients to confirm medical appointments, self-help workshops, therapy sessions, or get to a foodbank etc. *Debbi LeBlanc, Volunteer Coordinator (506) For more information about our services visit

8 Art for All Event Our Program supports families throughout Southeastern New Brunswick, by providing them hours of relief time each month provided by community volunteers. This year, our Respite Volunteer Events Committee selected an Art for All event as a fundraising initiative. The children of our program created beautiful paintings that was then printed on greeting cards and sold to friends, family and the general public. This fundraising event was possible due to the generous sponsorship from UNI. The greeting cards packets are available for the purchase price of $15.00 for 10 cards. All monies raised from this fundraiser will be used to organize fun activities for the families and their volunteers who participate in our respite care program.
