23 Predator/Prey Students will research predator/prey relationships At outdoor education students will participate in a simulation activity and collect data based on their experience Students will analyze the data to better understand the roles of animals in the food chain MC
24 Stream Study Students will get their feet wet and hands dirty as they: Analyze different forms of life Look at factors that can affect the health of the stream Determine flow rates of a stream Look for signs of erosion and natural changes to the ecosystem MC
25 Map & Compass Working as a team, students will find orienteering poles located at various places at the outdoor education site. Students utilize topographic maps, compasses and GPS units to navigate. MC
26 Confidence Course Each center has a confidence course comprised of mentally and physically challenging events. All activities are designed to increase confidence, promote teamwork, and improve human relations. MC
27 Nature Hike Students will increase their awareness and appreciation of the total forest community During forest exploration the students will study unique trees, identify trees, explore leaf and soil samples. MC
28 Local History Each site presents students with evidence of the past history of the area. Observation and small group discussion give students a glimpse of past customs and ways of life. MC

35 Allergies and Dietary Concerns The dining facilities cannot accommodate dietary concerns other than vegetarians; nor can they ensure that the food is allergen free. Therefore, students with food allergies or other special dietary concerns are encouraged to bring their own food. All sites have refrigerators and microwaves for storing, cooking or reheating food. Shirts (long sleeve shirts) Sweaters/sweatshirts (cold weather) Winter jacket Socks and underwear LOTS! Pajamas 2 pairs of sturdy footgear (sneakers, hiking boots, etc) Rain coat and hat or poncho ( waterproof) Plastic garbage bags (minimum 3) for dirty laundry, damp clothes, or to cover luggage during inclement weather Bathroom articles PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING EVEN YOUR CHILD!!! 43 CHAPERONE REQUIREMENTS OVERNIGHT CHAPERONES MUST: A. Read and understand The Guide to Chaperoning in the Outdoor Education Program brochure. B. Complete the Overnight Adult Chaperone Disclosure Form, providing your written consent for MCPS to receive the results of a Criminal Background Check. C. Complete fingerprinting. D. Complete the required training: Recognizing, Reporting, and Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect. PA
44 A. The Guide to Chaperoning in the Outdoor Education Program Please read the brochure before volunteering to chaperone. The brochure can be found on the MCPS website, will be posted on Hoover s homepage under 6 th Grade Outdoor Education Information, and posted on Edline. PA

Completing the Overnight Adult Chaperone Disclosure Form: Due date: ASAP with a deadline of Wednesday, November 23, The Overnight Adult Chaperone Disclosure Form can be found on the MCPS website,will be posted on Hoover s homepage under 6 th Grade Outdoor Education Information, and on Edline. Return signed Chaperone Disclosure Form to Ms. Pam Halperin by Wednesday, November 23, Submission of the signed Disclosure Form will initiate the criminal background check from MCPS. The criminal background check fee will be covered by MCPS. PA
46 C. Complete Fingerprinting by November 23, 2016 Option A: Montgomery County Public Schools Fingerprinting sessions are by appointment only. Bring a photo ID (Driver s License, Passport, or Green Card) Contact Mr. Greg Jones: Office of Human Resources & Development 45 West Gude Drive, Lobby, Rockville, Md *NO FEE There is no fee for OEEP overnight chaperones who utilize MCPS for fingerprinting. OPTION B: American Identity Solutions (AIS), Inc. Fingerprinting sessions are by appointment only. Bring a photo ID (Driver s License, Passport, or Green Card) and a completed AIS, Inc. Invoice *FEE OEEP overnight chaperones who utilize AIS must submit the American Identity Solutions Invoice and have responsibility for paying a fee of $20.00 at the time of the appointment. Cash, credit card, or money order will be accepted for payment. Personal checks will not be accepted. PA

(Do not send form into the teacher) Must have one form for each medication-make copies of form FORMS THE PHYSICIAN AND PARENT FILL OUT: * For ALL prescription medications * Medication order from physician and prescription label on bottle must match exactly!! NO EXCEPTIONS! * Parents fill out Part 1 and Physician fills out Part 2. * Please only send in the amount of pills your student will need at outdoor ed. (leave the rest at home --must be in the original bottle) FORMS THAT PARENTS CAN FILL OUT: * Any over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Advil, Benadryl * All over the counter medications MUST be in the ORIGINAL SEALED containers. We cannot accept any opened or taped shut containers or boxes! * Please try to limit over the counter medications to what is really necessary for those few days. * The parent completes the physician portion of the form ONLY for over the counter medications. Keep the medications order form in your car even if your child doesn t need any medications right now. In case of a last minute emergency appointment, you will have the form for anything like an ear infection or strep throat. Any medication your student ALREADY has in the health room (like EpiPen s) will be sent to outdoor ed. No need for you to do anything. AF
