RENEE AXDORFF-DICKEY Zone 1 Director Biographical Statement: I graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in 1988 and began my career as a perfusionist at Yale New Haven Hospital. After a year there, I headed to Seattle, Washington, where I worked for a year at Sisters of Providence Hospital. In 1990, I was recruited for Seattle Children s small pediatric perfusion team. I was promoted to Chief Perfusionist from 2004 to 2011, using the opportunity to modernize the department and introduce the latest technologies and procedures. In 2011 I began a master s program at Seattle University, receiving a Healthcare Leadership Executive M.B.A. in Our perfusion team has worked continuously to improve our techniques and results, using improvements in perfusion equipment and information technology and publishing results of our research with the Seattle Children s heart team. Interest in Running: I want to be Zone 1 Director of AmSECT to continue the work that our society has done to promote and improve perfusion worldwide. AmSECT has helped me by sharing insights from other perfusion programs, documenting best practices, creating networking opportunities and providing excellent continuing education opportunities. The advent of AmSECT University has created an online resource for perfusionists across the country. As the Zone 1 Director, I would work to make sure that our organization can continue providing excellent services to members, improve the way we deliver those services using technology, and increase the number of perfusionists active in AmSECT. I welcome the opportunity to support AmSECT perfusionists and would consider it an honor to serve as a Zone director.
2 JWANA B. IBSIES Zone 1 Director Biographical Statement: My name is Jwana Ibsies. I am currently the Chief Perfusionist at Oregon Health and Sciences University. I believe that I have the qualifications that make me the perfect candidate to serve as Zone 1 Director for the AmSECT committee. Our team s strengths have made us invaluable in providing exceptional patient care and support to our organization. I consider patient centered care, high quality evidence based clinical practice, and transparency of policies/procedures to be the cornerstones of a successful career. Both my work and personal experience will enhance the AmSECT Board of Directors and develop my interest in this area. I bring to the table my expertise in working with perfusionists, surgeons, nurses and management. I am professional; an excellent networker; a good communicator; able to manage deadlines and new challenges; and enthusiastic to take on new challenges to bring benefits to the perfusion community. Interest in Running: A strong AmSECT society is most critical in this current healthcare climate to protect our jobs, salaries, and future of perfusion as medical technology evolves. I believe that clear communication between the board and its members is essential to ensure that all of our members are fairly represented. If elected, I would build upon the contributions of our prior board members and bring forth a fresh, energetic perspective with plenty of diversity. I would appreciate your vote for me, Jwana B. I will look for feedback from all perfusion residents in Zone 4 to help guide meaningful growth and discussion on the future of perfusion and AmSECT. I know perfusion has been a constantly changing profession, and for perfusionists to maintain credibility and control of their responsibility, AmSECT has to be at the forefront of innovation, research, and practices in healthcare. I believe we, the perfusion community, can succeed in creating an error free workplace by utilizing AmSECT to its full potential. My main goal is to use AmSECT to open up a trusting dialogue with all perfusionists for the greater good of the community.

I m still involved in the care of adult and pediatric patients and am planning on putting my skills to use during a mission trip to Kenya this February. I m one of two current AmSECT Zone 4 directors and would love to serve you all for another three-year term if elected. I also serve on the Pediatric and Congenital Perfusion Committee and serve as a BOD advocate for this group. Interest in Running: I m running again for this position because I feel that my experience with the board of directors during the past three years has been incredibly educational and rewarding and I feel that I am just getting started in my role though my term has concluded. If re-elected, I m looking forward to working with the dedicated and highly motivated group of individuals that make up the current board of directors to help AmSECT grow as an organization and as a community.

In the past I have been an AmSECT speaker, having given a presentation pertaining to Veno-Venous- Arterial ECMO, while also having attended numerous AmSECT conferences. As a current member, I am looking forward to becoming more involved in the AmSECT community whilst my career continues to progress. Interest in Running: I am running for Zone 4 Director, which includes my home state of New York where I am also certified and have applied for licensure. I would like to be more immersed in the decision making aspect of AmSECT. I feel my knowledge and skills acquired will enable me to make appropriate decisions for AmSECT. I am highly motivated to be involved with all of the future advances the perfusion profession has to offer, as I feel we are at the forefront of technology and improved patient care. My previous experience serving for AmSECT was on the Achievement Recognition Committee. It was very humbling to observe and recognize our peers for their achievements. Interest in Running: I am running for ARC and Ethics Committee because from my previous experience serving on the ARC, I realize how much dedication is needed to serve well. Also, I am willing and have the time to devote to serving AmSECT and our peers. It was an honor serving in the past and I will be glad to serve you well again.
5 EMILY THUNSTROM Bylaws Committee Biographical Statement: My name is Emily Thunstrom; I graduated in May of 2012 with a Master of Science in Perfusion from North Shore University Hospital. Since graduation, I have been a practicing Clinical Perfusionist at two large academic medical centers. I began my perfusion career at the University of California Los Angeles Medical Center (UCLA). I was then offered the opportunity to return to New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia Campus where, in addition to my clinical responsibilities, I have also taken on the responsibility of Student Clinical Coordinator since February Throughout perfusion school I was a student member of AmSECT. Along with keeping my membership current since 2015, it has been my professional priority to attend the AmSECT International Conference annually. Additionally, to illustrate the priority of academics I hold myself to, I have submitted an abstract to speak at this year s International Conference. Interest in Running: Many professionals have a job they go to each day; I have a career. I am fortunate to have found a career that I love and hold a passion for. I am committed to staying active in the perfusion community to help solidify the profession s future and to ensure its growth. I aim to be an advocate for the profession and its practitioners, and I believe AmSECT is the organization that shares this goal. I would like to serve on the Bylaws Committee. Working at a busy academic center has exposed me to new technologies and techniques, and has given me an introduction to a host of cutting edge procedures. As student coordinator, working with many different programs is an asset for this position, and has given me insights to the minds entering our profession and the path we are to take. TRANG N. BODTKE Ethics Committee Biographical Statement: I received a Bachelor of Science from Lewis & Clark College and attended St. Vincent School of Cardiopulmonary Perfusion in Portland, Oregon. Prior to perfusion school, I was a pharmacy technician at Oregon Health Sciences University. I took my first job as a perfusionist at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. From there I went to Little Rock, Arkansas. In my thirteen years as a perfusionist in Arkansas, I worked for a private contract group, established my own perfusion company and was hospital employed. My perfusion services covered Arkansas Heart Hospital, St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center, Baptist Health Medical Center, Baptist Memorial Medical Center, Baxter Regional Medical Center and Arkansas Children's Hospital. In 2011, I took a job at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. I am currently a staff perfusionist as well as the Assistant Administrative Lead Perfusionist. I am a current member of AmSECT. Interest in Running: I believe in a team based approach in enhancing the lives of patient care and strongly advocate for the continuing education for perfusionist in medicine as well as in morals, respect and compassion. Not only should this be adhered to for patients, but for all medical team members. As a perfusionist, I practice "treat others how you want to be treated" and "doing what is right" very seriously. I encourage my peers to always go above and beyond what is expected to excel in perfusion so patient care is not at risk. I have been privileged to have worked in various settings and believe this will help me be a strong leader in upholding the code of ethics for perfusion if elected for the Ethics Committee. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to be nominated.
6 BARBARA BRALEY MILLIN Ethics Committee Biographical Statement: I attended The University of Texas at Austin from 2002 to 2006 where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Development in Family Sciences/Pre-medicine. After graduation, I worked at St. John's School in Houston, Texas as an athletic coach, while simultaneously getting a certification in surgical technology from Houston Community College. From 2009 to 2011, I worked at Texas Children's Hospital as a surgical technologist in the cardiac OR. I attended the Texas Heart Institute School of Perfusion from 2012 to I started working at Cincinnati Children s Hospital in 2013, and that is where I am employed currently. I have attended the 2013 AmSECT Pediatric Perfusion Conference in Denver, Colorado and the 2014 AmSECT Quality and Outcomes Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. I maintain my annual AmSECT membership, and I take advantage of the many learning and continuing educational opportunities that AmSECT has to offer online so that I can continue to improve upon patient care, safety, and quality of perfusion. Interest in Running: I am running for the AmSECT Ethics Committee because I greatly value the perfusion profession, and I put the highest importance on the integrity of our patients and the care that our profession provides. I believe that we are all patient advocates, and what better way to support that belief, than to be a part of a committee that supports and encourages confidentiality, sound judgement, providing the highest quality of care and continuing education. If given the opportunity, I would contribute to the ongoing mission of AmSECT as well as reinforcing AmSECT s Code of Ethics and bylaws by providing an unbiased and fair viewpoint during elections and those processes. During my threeyear term, I hope to encourage my colleagues to be active members in AmSECT as well, so that we can continue to provide a bright future for our profession and more. JENNIFER MOTTERN Ethics Committee Biographical Statement: My name is Jennifer Mottern, and I received my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Villanova University, followed by my Master of Science in Perfusion from LIU/NSUH School of Cardiovascular Perfusion. I began my career at NYP-Columbia, where I have now been for 2.5 years. In addition to being a staff perfusionist, I work closely with perfusion students daily as a clinical preceptor. Recently, I have become involved in our new simulation center where we have been able to train nursing staff and doctors in ECMO. I am also an active member in the New York State Society of Perfusion. I was a student member of AmSECT and have been able to continue my membership for the past two years. I had the opportunity to present at the 53rd International Conference in Tampa, Florida. Because of that experience, I would like to continue my involvement in presentations at future conferences. Interest in Running: A major reason that being a perfusionist means so much to me is because my father had a heart transplant in It is an honor to be able to make an impact in the lives of families the same way others before me have helped mine. I would like to run for the position of Ethics Committee Member because I would like to help make a difference in the AmSECT community. With technology constantly advancing in our field, I believe it is important for AmSECT to continue to be innovative leaders in our profession. Working at an institution like Columbia has required hard work and dedication that have taught me a great deal about using teamwork and leadership skills to succeed. With my experience and education, I feel that I would be a valuable asset to the Ethics Committee and ensure that AmSECT continues to uphold the highest standards.
7 SHAELYNNE M. POHLMAN Ethics Committee Biographical Statement: Although I have never held a position with AmSECT, I have been a member of the organization since I started attending perfusion school at Medical University of South Carolina in After I completed my degree from MUSC in 2010, I took time off from school to focus on certification and becoming more comfortable clinically. It was in the operating room when I decided I wanted to start my master s degree from Creighton in Health Care Ethics. I thoroughly enjoyed every course the program had to offer. I am currently the chief of cardiovascular perfusion at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, Kansas. Interest in Running: The Health Care Ethics program really emphasized the importance of being a patient advocate and how patient autonomy is the cornerstone of clinical ethics. We as healthcare providers have an obligation to help create conditions necessary for autonomous choices in others. Having those tough conversations with our coworkers and surgeons are necessary to truly be supportive of our patient population. Functioning within our organizations bylaws is crucial to adequate patient care. I am running for this position because I want to give back to a community that has given so much to me. I believe that my master s degree will be extremely helpful in me fulfilling this position. SHAHNA BRONSON Nominating Committee Biographical Statement: Shahna Bronson has been a Certified Clinical Perfusionist for 16 years, earning her Certificate of Perfusion from The Cleveland Clinic in Mrs. Bronson has been an executive member of The International Consortium for Evidence-Based Perfusion (ICEBP) for six years and an American Society of Extracorporeal Technology (AmSECT) member since Mrs. Bronson has a keen interest in the role of professional societies in improving the quality and safety of care; she has authored or co-authored manuscripts, has a standing column in AmSECT Today, and presents widely on this topic at state and national conferences. Interest in Running: I believe in AmSECT. I am devoted to encouraging others to volunteer for their professional society. AmSECT as a whole has so much potential to provide the necessary resources to our perfusion community, but we need more help! AmSECT committees are composed of volunteers who share my passion for AmSECT. My future goals are to run for the Board of Directors and fulfill a seat that participates in making a difference in the field of perfusion. I am motivated, happy, passionate and successful in my goals. My priority will be to educate the perfusion community about what AmSECT has to offer them, as well as learning what our members need from AmSECT. These are the vital keys to success for the profession. Please allow me the opportunity to grown in my volunteer skillset and use my motivation and drive to help encourage others to see the value in AmSECT.
8 SEAN CLINGAN Nominating Committee Biographical Statement: I received a B.S. in Earth Science and Biology Secondary Education from Eastern Michigan University. I taught high school biology until my son, Caelin, was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. I went on to attend Midwestern University and received an M.S. in Cardiovascular Science Perfusion. I worked with two fellow classmates on novel research that was presented at multiple meetings and won multiple scholarships/awards. Our research resulted in two published articles, one in Perfusion and the other in the Journal of Extracorporeal Technology. I have been at Cincinnati Children s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) since June 1, 2015 where I have begun work on additional research and contributions to the perfusion team through quality improvement data acquisition and presentation. I have been a member of AmSECT since my first year of perfusion school and have utilized many of the tools and educational offerings through the AmSECT website. I have written an article for AmSECT Today and have had research presented at the International AmSECT meeting and another article published in JECT. Interest in Running: I am running for a volunteer leadership position for the Nominating Committee because while I am young in my perfusion career I hope to become a strong leader in the perfusion community. I feel that this committee would allow me to start that journey by contributing to the organization while learning from many experienced and knowledgeable colleagues. A position on the Nominating Committee would not only allow me to have a hand in selecting our future organizational leaders and committee members but allow me to see the contributions made to our field on a regular basis by various perfusionists. This knowledge would be invaluable because it could illustrate where I can potentially grow, excel and contribute within my own perfusion department and the perfusion community. I hope to contribute to the AmSECT organization through various volunteer leadership positions as the years continue.
