There won t be a Happy Friday for 2 weeks as I m off to Palma Wednesday morning Although I had it in my head that it was Thursday so it s pretty lucky my lift to the airport fell through and I had to check the ticket to book a coach. Looking forward to a week or so of everyday being the weekend We are entering a Halloween pumpkin carving competition here at Lanchester House Time to get our creative heads on and hope we don t lose any fingers in the process. The conference will continue to focus on how we learn from incidents, and innovate practice with sustained clinical leadership, and empowerment of front line clinical teams. There will be a focus on human factors running throughout the day. For more information and to book a place please visit: streets ahead tickets (bar open from 16:30 17:30 for networking) Inhaler technique training Brighton and Hove CCG are working with Education for Health to deliver a non promotional afternoon of inhaler technique training aimed at Health Care Professionals. The training includes a mixture of presentations and practical sessions to help Health Care Professionals to feel confident and comfortable when training patients on various inhaler techniques. Delegates, along with the knowledge that they will have gained, will leave the training with a delegate pack containing an Education for Health Simply Devices book, an InCheck MDI, an InCheck Dial, disposable mouthpieces and a Trainhaler. You are invited to send one member from your practice (ideally a practice nurse who deals with respiratory patients) to attend: When: Friday November 13th 2pm 4.30pm Where: Room 1, Lanchester house, Trafalgar Place, Brighton BN1 4FU. There is no charge to attend the training session. However there are only 22 places on the course, so booking will be on a first come, first serve basis. To book please visit: technique training tickets Immunisation & Vaccination 2 DAY Training for NEW Practice nurses Tea and Coffee provided. Please bring your own lunch. Trainer: Amiira Bodheea Course: 2 day immunisation training in line with the Health Protection Agency national minimum standards for immunisation training. We will prioritise places for nurses who are new to general practice in the last year. Course aim: To equip practice nurses with the latest guidance on the national immunisation programmes, and raise awareness to available resources to respond to the challenges encountered in primary care whilst delivering adult and childhood immunisations. The National Minimum Standards for Immunisation Training (HPA, 2005) recommends an initial two day course for all staff involved in immunisation. The rationale for the length and content of training required is based on the complexity of the immunisation schedule

Dr Laura Marshall Andrews talk is entitled "Bringing the Art back into Medicine". She took over a surgery on Western Road, Hove in the summer of 2013 and she has transformed it into a Health and Wellbeing Centre where the team offer not just "the usual medical services" but also complementary medicine, singing, art classes, and therapy through writing and drama. Her practice won the national "Innovator of the year Award" for General Practice in Dr Marshall Andrews is an energetic, dynamic GP who is trying to find new and better ways of caring for patients in an overstretched NHS. 6 Ruth Barker Wound care Workshop This course is not endorsed by us and has not been quality checked but is being sent for information only. 3 rd February, London We are pleased to announce that Primary Care Nursing Expo 2016, is now open for registration. Education for Health, the world leading educational charity for health professionals, have devised another fantastic programme designed to meet the educational needs of the entire primary care nursing team, with a wide choice of clinical updates in asthma, COPD, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, dermatology, immunisation, health promotion, women's sexual health and wound care. Wound care workshops will enable you to review the latest guidelines and evidence, and discuss case scenarios in wound assessment and the management of leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers. The workshops will be led by Joy Tickle, Tissue Viability Nurse Specialist and Clinical Lead for Shropshire Community NHS Trust. Each session will include updates on the latest recommendations for practice and new treatment options along with accredited CPD certification. You can choose up to five 1 hour workshops from one or more zones, and get involved in discussions of case scenarios and consider the implications of new developments for patient care. Attendees will also have the opportunity to share experiences with colleagues and meet exhibiting industry representatives*. With nurse revalidation plans due to come in at the end of 2016, it has never been more important for nurses to keep up to date with best practice. Stop the Pressure Day COPD Study day The CCG have commissioned training events to support the delivery of the COPD LCS services/locally commissioned services lcs/copdlocally commissioned service

7 Eligibility to Provide the Service Practices providing this LCS are expected to meet the following minimum eligibility criteria. The practice will have a nominated Clinical Lead for providing COPD services. The identified lead must EITHER: Attend the CCG commissioned one day COPD course; Provide evidence of having recently completed an accredited course and evidence of maintenance of competency Alternatively contact Helen Rignall the CCG Primary Care Workforce Tutor to discuss other local education options/funding possibilities on helen.rignall@nhs.net One day COPD Training Event The CCG have commissioned two, one day training events (max 15 attendees per session) in Brighton. 8 If you are able to, you may want to bring in your spirometer machine. However Every attendee to bring an anonymous printout from the machine used within the practice this is really important as the trainer will only cover interpretation on the machines that attendees of the meeting are using. There is a now a huge variety of spirometry machines so this is necessary to tailor the day to include your printout. For the afternoon session you may wish to send in personal case studies, these should be ed to maggieharris@btopenworld.com at least a week before the meeting. (without patient details).
