1 Volume 1, Issue XIX May 2015 Statistical Update May 2015 Hospitals/Clinical Centres: 61 Welcome to the nineteenth edition of the Healthlink newsletter. I am happy to take this opportunity to update you on developments in the project, newly launched services and plans for the coming year. I hope it will be a useful source of information and I am keen to hear your thoughts and feedback. Gemma Garvan, Healthlink Project Manager Healthlink Celebrate Delivering 10 Million Messages in 2014 GPs using HealthlinkOnline: 3409 Practices: 1407 Inside this Issue 10 Million Messages Event New Services & Project Updates Healthlink Services Referrals Stats OCIO Strategic Priorities On Thursday, 30th April 2015, Healthlink hosted an event in Croke Park Conference Centre to celebrate sending a record 10 million messages in The 10 millionth message was a laboratory report sent from St. James s Hospital to Dr. Miriam Carey, The Iveagh Medical Clinic, Dublin 12. The event was attended by Kathleen Lynch, Minister for Primary Care, Social Care & Mental Health who presented prizes to Mary Leech, Practice Manager at The Iveagh Medical Clinic and John Gibbons, Laboratory Manager at St. James s Hospital. In her speech, Minister Lynch said "I would like to pay tribute to Healthlink for the invaluable contribution it has made through many ICT health initiatives over the years. It has played a key role in modernising our health services, enabling effective integration between Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Care, which has resulted in tangible benefits for health service users across the country." The full press release plus additional photos of the event are available on news.htm
2 New Services & Project Updates NCCP Update Following a successful pilot of Pigmented Lesion referrals, the service is running live in St. Vincent s, St. James s, Roscommon County and South Infirmary Victoria Hospitals. The referral form is based on the NCCP hardcopy referral form but the advantage of the electronic version is that the GP receives an instant response that the referral has been successfully received. Similarly to the other cancer referrals, a response will be sent to the GP within 5 working days. This referral service will be rolled out to at least 3 more hospitals later this year. ereferrals Update St. Vincent s hospital commenced the electronic general referrals pilot at the end of April and hope to be in a position to roll out to all users by the end of May. The 3 specialties currently taking part are ENT, Renal & Rheumatology. The Mater hospital, University hospital Waterford and the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear hospital are also planning the deployment of electronic referrals in the coming weeks. NSS Projects Work is ongoing with the National Screening Service ( N SS ) producing electronic reports from the cytology laboratories. MedLab reports are live and a pilot of Quest reports is beginning on Monday, 11th May. We are also completing testing of normal mammogram reports from BreastCheck. Pilot GPs have been selected and a 3-month pilot will begin in Q NIMIS Update The NIMIS rollout continues with St. John s in Limerick going live in February. The next planned sites are the Rotunda in August and Letterkenny General in October/November. St. James s is also preparing for it s deployment at some stage in New Pilots Two new messages are begin piloted in AMNCH - Waiting List Updates and OPD updates. OPD updates include new appointments, cancellations and did not attends. Once the pilot has successfully completed we will release these messages to all GPs in the Tallaght area. Lab Messaging Updates Healthlink are working on a project to deliver hospital laboratory messages to the national Genito Urinary Medicine ( G UM ) clinical information system. The first implementation site is the GUM clinic in Galway which is expected to go-live in May. Both St. Vincent s and St. James s Labs are preparing to send electronic Histology reports. The St. Vincent s pilot will begin in May. St. James s also hope to send these reports to Dentists which will be a new user-group for Healthlink. The Laboratory reports pilot in Bon Secours Hospital, Glasnevin has completed and these results are available to all GPs. National Projects Healthlink are also engaging with the HSE to enable the messaging components of other National systems and ensuring that they are in a position to interface with and adopt the new information requirements through our messaging service where appropriate.

Richard has outlined that electronic referrals should be available to all hospitals in a position to accept electronic referrals from their GPs by the end of Healthlink are currently working with the project manager for the National ereferrals rollout to enable all hospitals to utilise the ereferral service deployed by Healthlink. All hospitals that have centralised referrals and are in a position to accept electronic referrals from their GPs are being asked to come forward and start a project to implement it into their hospital. About Healthlink The National Healthlink Project provides a web-based messaging service which allows the secure transmission of clinical patient information between Hospitals, Health Care Agencies and General Practitioners. The project has been in operation since 1995 and has developed considerably since that time to its current status as national messaging broker.
