8 Township of Georgian Bay Mobile Health Hubs (an interim solution to our nursing station needs) Source: The Township of Georgian Bay is excited to learn from the Local Integrated Health Unit (LHIN) for Simcoe/Muskoka that the community of Port Severn will get a Mobile Hub coming spring This is a fully funded 3 year pilot to determine if there is a need in our community. The Mobile Health Unit has been modeled to visit Port Severn and offer various types of care required. The unit is projected to be shared with one other Muskoka community over the course of a 5 day work week (rotating three days in our community and then the following week two days). A visit to the mobile unit and the nurse practitioner can include: Diagnosis and treatment of common health concerns (e.g. ear, throat and bladder infections); Screening and monitoring of chronic disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic obstructive lung disease, arthritis and asthma; Routine prenatal and postnatal care, well baby care and children's exams, Immunizations, Blood testing; Ordering of diagnostic tests, such as blood work, x-rays, ultrasounds and mammograms; Referrals to family physicians, specialists and other health care professionals; Prescriptions for some medications (not narcotics); Health teaching and wellness counseling; Developing strategies and lifestyle modifications to manage your health. Pledges and letters are still being accepted in hopes of permanent facility funding (based on statistical data drawn from use of this unit). For more information about this mobile hub, and how you can stay involved, please contact your Port Severn Nursing Station Community Chair, Katherine Breeson at breeson@sympatico.ca
