The management of bladder cancer demonstrated to us the importance of multidisciplinary team approach to disease management. This year, besides doctors and nurses from urology specialty, we have also invited specialist from other fields include Clinical Oncology, Chinese Medicine as well as dietitian to speak for us. I hope our nurses could benefit from this one day program and could gain a more in-depth knowledge of bladder cancer disease and its management. I would like to thank all speakers of today s program, the organizing team of QMH and TWH who is doing all the preparation work for us. It s our great pleasure to organize this Big Event bi-yearly at HAHO by Urology Division, Department of Surgery, the University of Hong Kong, Queen Mary and Tung Wah Hospitals. This year, our theme is Multidisciplinary Approach on Bladder Cancer Management. As we all know, bladder cancer is an invasive disease and requires prompt management. Some of the bladder cancer patients require surgery and some might require oncology or Chinese Medicine management. Different expertise play a crucial role on the patients presented with different stage of bladder cancer. In addition, majority of the patients normally encounter anorexia, depression and low self-esteem during the treatment period of Western or Chinese Medicine. So, the role of dietitian on diet advice and nurses on peri-operative intensive care are essential for the early recovery process. Therefore, this comprehensive symposium can enhance all nurses or attendees to understand the contemporary management of bladder cancer. Last but not least, I would like to take this opportunity to thanks all honorable speakers, DOMs, ward managers and volunteers of QMH and TWH for their unfailing support! 8 Mr Steven NG Urology Specialist Nurse Stoma and Wound Nurse Queen Mary Hospital Nursing Management of Urinary Diversion Ileal conduit urinary diversion for patients with operable invasive bladder cancer following cystectomy has great impact on their physical life and functional changes. Proper pre-operative counseling and peri-operative nursing care help to alleviate stress and promote recovery process of patients. Patients who fulfill patient selection criteria and with a functional external sphincter are suitable for orthotopic bladder substitution which has less alteration in body image. Effective drain care helps to promote recovery. Nursing education for post neo-bladder construction help to prevent post-operative complications and achieve good functional results. 6

10 Mr Kenneth LO Dietitian Tung Wah Hospital Dietary Advice from Dietician on Patients after Radical Cystectomy Urinary diversions and bladder reconstruction using intestinal (usually ileum and/ or colon) segments are performed following radical cystectomy, most commonly for bladder cancer. Most patients will likely be able to resume their normal diet after the surgery. However, nutrition related problems associated with these surgeries may occur. Those problems include delay in return of bowel function, bowel obstruction, diarrhoea, vitamin B12 deficiency and bone demineralization. Besides, patients are often having questions on their diet after the surgery. In this session, dietitian will share the dietary advice to patients after radical cystectomy. 8

11 Dr. Steven SIU MBBS(HK), FRCR, FHKCR, FHKAM(Radiology), MSc in Palliative Medicine (Cardiff) Associate Consultant Department of Clinical Oncology Queen Mary Hospital Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor, The University of Hong Kong Radiotherapy for Advanced Bladder Cancer Abstract For patients who are suffering from muscle invasive bladder cancer, radiotherapy can be an option for those who are keen to consider bladder preservation. Radiotherapy is more effective when it is given in combination with chemotherapy and after an endoscopic resection that is as complete as possible is performed. For those patients that are considered not a candidate for curative treatment, radiotherapy can still be offered as a means of local symptom palliation. In this session, the current clinical evidence on radiotherapy for advanced bladder cancer and the approach of offering radiotherapy to these patients will be discussed. 9

13 Ms LIU Man Yee Urology Specialist Nurse Tung Wah Hospital Ms. LIU Man Yee has obtained the Certificate of Registration as Registered Nurse in Later on, she was awarded the Bachelor of Nursing in The Open University of Hong Kong in She has also accomplished the Certificate in Post-registration Certificate Course in Urology Nursing and the Advanced Urology Nursing Course in 2006 and 2010 respectively. In 2013, she was awarded Specialty Nurse of Hong Kong Hospital Authority. She has contributing in Urology nursing for over a decade. Presently, she is practicing in the Geriatric-Urology Centre at Tung Wah Hospital and specialized in urology nursing consultancy services. She is also a frequent guest speaker in various congresses and workshops in the urological field. Nursing Perspective on Instillation of Intravesical Therapy Introduction the updated knowledge & techniques of management of on instillation of Intravesical Therapy for nurse specialists in order to enhance the quality of nursing care towards the bladder cancer patients. 11
