15 Managing Labor Pain Support during labor Emotional and physical Provided by patient s support person and family, your nurse, your doctor and medical student 24-hour Anesthesia services available Narcotics Epidural 15

16 Photography Policy Photos and video are permitted during first stage of labor (contractions, not yet pushing) and after the baby has been placed in the family member's arms. Photos/videos are NOT allowed during the pushing stage or during deliveries occurring in the operating room. Photos/videos of the NEWBORN ONLY in the operating room are permitted only after the pediatric/nursing team give the OK. Obstetric or Pediatric care providers always have the right to restrict photography/videography if it is deemed to interfere with patient care. 16

18 Circumcision Circumcision is the cosmetic surgical removal of the penile foreskin Performed at Tufts Medical Center by Obstetricians after 12 hours of life Pros/cons Organogenesis Skin Donation program 18

19 Breastfeeding Resources All mothers are encouraged to breastfeed Staff support includes: 3 board-certified lactation consultant Lisa Enger, RN, IBCLC Kathy Kane-Petit, RN, IBCLC Yvonne Maalouf, IBCLC Trained nursing staff Support available after hospital discharge Breast pumps 19

20 Visitor Guidelines Labor & Delivery 2 support people per patient Mother-Infant Unit Support person may stay 24 hours Visiting hours 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. Well siblings only During Flu season, visitation policies may change 20
