3 CEO Message Dear VIVA Family, It gives me great pleasure to present you with the fourth issue of the VIVA employees newsletter; an exceptional and exciting issue containing the latest developments and major milestones we have witnessed over the past few months; all as a result of your great efforts and dedication. I would like to start by congratulating you all on the company achieving two million customers, a major milestone in VIVA s growth. In less than two years, we have managed to double our customer base through offering an unmatched level of services and innovative products, as well as through your determination and hard work. In line with this achievement and with the official launch of Mobile Number Portability, we have launched a series of new branches across the country, to better service our customers conveniently. Several other branch launches are in the pipeline for this year. To further support our growth and expansion, and our leading position, we recently completed a multi-currency financing agreement of USD 270 million that was signed with the National Bank of Kuwait Group (NBK Group). This will allow additional investment in the network, the services and products we offer, and in our CSR initiatives that support the local community, such as the exclusive five year sponsorship agreement signed with KFA earlier this year in addition to the launch of VIVA Dawry. 4 News & Events Five Year Sponsorship Agreement of the Kuwait Football Association (KFA) VIVA has signed a five-year partnership agreement with the Kuwait Football Association (KFA), making VIVA the exclusive sponsor of all national football teams that fall under KFA and the Kuwaiti League for the to football seasons. The agreement was signed by KFA s Chairman, Sheikh Dr. Talal Al-Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and VIVA s Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Badran during the press conference. The partnership underpins VIVA s commitment towards the support of Kuwaiti football teams in regional and international competitions, as well as its determination to further develop Kuwaiti football, through its support to the local football league. This sponsorship will apply to the participation of the various Kuwaiti football teams in friendly and official matches, including the national football team, Olympic, youth, or junior football teams, in addition to indoor field, beach football and female football teams. VIVA and KFA Unveil Dawri VIVA Logo VIVA hosted a logo unveiling ceremony that coincided with the launching of the VIVA Football League. The event took place on Wednesday 28 th August 2013 at the Jumeirah Messilah hotel and was attended by representatives of the Kuwait Football Association (KFA), Kuwaiti sports personalities, as well as the press and bloggers. 2

5 News & Events Multi-Currency Financing Agreement of USD 270 million VIVA recently signed a multi-currency financing agreement of USD 270 million with the National Bank of Kuwait Group (NBK Group), to finance its plans to upgrade its network and expand in Kuwait. The financing includes a USD 70 million Murabaha Facility from Boubyan Bank, a member of NBK Group. The tenor of the financing is five years. The deal marks the start of a new era for VIVA as this strategic partnership will help VIVA to further expand and develop its operations. Allowing additional investment in its network, services people and by diversifying the funding sources for its operations and expansions, while preserving its financial strength, will prove beneficial to the sustained growth that VIVA enjoys. The financial strength that VIVA witnesses today is a result of its customers loyalty and trust which it was able to gain over the years. It also reflects the trust and confidence of creditors and funders towards VIVA. 3

6 News & Events Celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan with the VIVA Family In celebration of the Holy month of Ramadan, VIVA held a ghabgha for its employees themed 5 years, 2 million subscribers, also celebrating five continuous years of achievements since the company s inception and its current customer base of 2 million subscribers. During the event, VIVA recognized employees efforts in bringing VIVA to the position it holds today; the youngest and fastest growing telecommunications company in Kuwait. A short documentary was also displayed, which highlighted VIVA s main achievements during the past five years and the successful milestone reached after the second millionth subscriber joined the VIVA network. Celebrating with Bloggers Following the VIVA Employee ghabgha, a bloggers ghabgha was held in the presence of VIVA s Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Badran, where he stressed on the importance of social media channels and the bloggers role in making sure that VIVA stands out in the increasingly busy social media world. The short documentary, which highlighted VIVA s main achievements during the past five years, was also displayed during the evening. Also attending the bloggers ghabgha as special guests were some of the Kuwaiti Golden football team members, including Jassim Al Yaqoub, Abdullah Ma iuf, Mohammad Karam and Saad Al Houti, who have all been a part of changing football history for Kuwait. In addition, renowned local band Miami along with local celebrities Maram and Yaqoub Abdullah attended the event to share the joy of Ramadan. 4

7 News & Events VIVA Hosts the Guests of the Merciful at Jaber Al Ali and Al Rashid Mosques during Ramadan As part of VIVA s Corporate Social Responsibility Program and as one of the many contributions made during the Holy month of Ramadan, the company sponsored the Ramadan tents that were setup at Al Rashid mosque in Adailiya, and Jaber Al-Ali Mosque in South Surra, throughout the Holy month. VIVA provided the Ramadan tent halls at both mosques, with all necessary supplies throughout the month of Ramadan, in addition to creating a spiritual and faith-filled atmosphere to the crowds of worshippers from the beginning of the Holy month to the last ten days. VIVA Shines with its Ramadan TVCs VIVA has succeeded in being the frontrunner in the TV advertising arena this year, with the launch of various commercials reflecting its key achievements over the last few years. VIVA collaborated with Maram and Yacoub Abdullah to celebrate the holy month, in addition to releasing a TV spot highlighting its extensive network coverage in Kuwait, covering over two million customers in just five years since its inception. A separate TV spot featured Miami music band in a Gergean commercial, while the well-loved 2-part sports commercial featured the National Kuwaiti Golden Team members Jassem Yagoub, Mohammad Karam, Abdullah Al-Ma ayouf, and Saad Al-Houti as well as Manchester United stars. 5

8 News & Events VIVA Opens New Branches Across Kuwait As part of the company s expansion strategy to provide excellence and convenience in its customer service, a series of new branches across Kuwait were opened recently, namely in the Fanar Mall, Al Shaab district Al Murooj Complex, Daiya Co-op, Hawalli - Al Nahar Complex, Rawda Co-op, Saveco Mall, Andalus Co-op, Farwaniya - Al Ostoura Mall, Kuwait International Airport s Departure Hall, Mahboula Marina Towers and the Grand Avenue, making it the second VIVA branch at the Avenues Mall. The branch openings are part of a series of openings that will continue to take place during the remainder of this year. VIVA Welcomes Eureka to its Distribution Network In line with VIVA s commitment to continuously provide unique services, and adding value to each customer experience, while catering to their different needs, the company has further expanded its reach across Kuwait after signing an agreement with Eureka, one of Kuwait s leading retailers of consumer electronics and appliances, making it an authorised VIVA distributor. Eureka, established in 2001, is currently present in Kuwait through four different showrooms and offers a full range of consumer electronics and devices. 6

9 News & Events More than 2000 Candidates Interviewed at VIVA s Three-Day Walk-in Interviews Building on last year s success and for the second consecutive year, VIVA organized its three-day Walk-in Interviews event which was held at the Hotel Missoni from 25 th to 27 th June. The event granted young Kuwaiti professionals the opportunity to submit their resumes to VIVA s Human Resources (HR) team, who interviewed them along with executives from the various departments within VIVA. VIVA s three-day Walk-in Interviews were yet again a great success as more than 2000 resumes were submitted, and each applicant had the opportunity to be interviewed by one of the HR team members. Honoring Employee Efforts for the 2 nd Walk in Interviews VIVA employees were honored by the executive management for the tremendous efforts made in the successful organization and implementation of the Walk-in Interviews event. VIVA s management has honored team members from several departments who have worked tirelessly to ensure that all aspects regarding the recent Walk-in Interviews in June met the company s objectives and ensured the event s success. 7

10 News & Events VIVA Sponsors the 34 th Annual Al Roudan Football Tournament VIVA sponsored the 34 th Annual Al Roudan Indoor Football Tournament, which was held under the patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and commenced in the first days of Ramadan. VIVA s Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Badran, and senior executives from VIVA attended the opening ceremony that took place on the 6 th of July This year s tournament welcomed footballers from around the Gulf and Arab region as well as renowned international players, welcoming about 70 professionals who took part in the event, representing 15 nations. The star of this year s Al Roudan tournament was former Juventus and ex-italy international player and legend Alessandro Del Piero. Team Teki Taka Crowned Champions of the 4 th VIVA Employees Soccer League In working towards enhancing and strengthening VIVA employees relationship, the company organized its 4 th Soccer League whereby Team Teki Taka scored two goals beating team Spyder in the final match. Sixteen teams participated in this year s tournament. The company also organized a friendly match between VIVA s management that was attended by the CEO alongside employees, their families and friends. At the end of the final match, Salman Al-Badran honored the outstanding players of this year s tournament; Abdulla Bahou won the title of the League s Best Player, Mustafa Al-Bahar was named Best Goalkeeper and Jassem Al-Harban as Leading Scorer with 8 goals throughout the tournament. Following this, the Spyder team was awarded the Silver medal, and Teki Taka the Gold medal and the league trophy. 8

11 News & Events VIVA Announces the Winner of the Lamborghini Gallardo VIVA announced the winner of the Lamborghini Gallardo in an event held at the Avenues Mall, under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce and industry representatives. Mr. Abdullah Nabeel Al Waheib was the lucky winner as he drove away in a brand new 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo, one of the world s most desirable sports cars. The draw was held in the midst of an exciting ambiance, where audiences were entertained by the famous MCs Salman Najadi and Hessa Al Loghani, two of the most outstanding presenters in Kuwait. VIVA Presented with Three Awards at Insights Middle East Call Center Awards VIVA was awarded the Best Small Help Desk, Call Centre Manager of The Year and Best Call Center Photography at Insights Middle East Call Center 2013 Awards; the only call centre-dedicated professional services organization in the Middle East. The awards ceremony was held in June in Dubai, at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Center. The awards were presented by Dominick Keenaghan, CEO and President of Insights Middle East and received by Mr. Munther Al-Saleh from VIVA. 9

12 News & Events VIVA Launches Online CSR Portal Bridging the gap for a better tomorrow Corporate Social Responsibility 2012 VIVA launched its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) focused portal, a platform within its website at that offers a description of each CSR initiative that VIVA has supported, or taken on since its foundation. This portal falls in line with VIVA s commitment to the Kuwaiti community and aims to further enrich it by reporting the company s ongoing CSR initiatives, which are focused on supporting and developing different areas and segments of the Kuwaiti community such as youth, sports, technology and environment. المسو ولية ا جتماعية Social Commitment VIVA Extends Its Support to Amiri Hospital VIVA continued to extend its support to the development of the Kuwaiti health sector, as it made a contribution to supply the Amiri Hospital with more than 200 new medical chairs. This initiative comes in line with VIVA s mission to lend a helping hand to Kuwait s health sector and assist in the development of its facilities, through equipping them with the required devices to offer a more comprehensive treatment to the patients. Worthy to note, VIVA recently donated 265 wheelchairs to different health facilities in Kuwait that were in need of this device, through collaboration with the Ministry of Health Earlier this year, VIVA published its first CSR booklet in which it explained its CSR direction and focuses for 2013, and provided a brief description of the CSR initiatives it took on in This new booklet is VIVA s first step towards sharing its CSR success stories with its customers and the general public. VIVA Sponsors the CrossFit Kids Summer Program In line with VIVA s CSR strategy, the company sponsored the CrossFit Kids Summer Program; a two-week program that offers fitness and educational lessons to children between the ages of 8 to13 years, with the aim to prevent and minimize obesity among youth and to encourage physical fitness at an early age. VIVA s support of the CrossFit Kids Summer Program falls in line with its objective to raise awareness of obesity among children; a condition that has prevailed in invading the lives of our youth, and to highlight the importance of incorporating physical fitness into our children s daily routine. 10

13 News & Events VIVA Sponsors the 4 th Shigardy Summer Program 2013 VIVA sponsored the fourth Shigardy 2013 summer program organized by the Proud to be Kuwaiti (P2BK) forum. The program was aimed at educating and training young people aged between 17 and 24 years old. The training focused on helping youth showcase and execute their ideas and ambitions in nine various fields including health, sports, education, small businesses, architecture, design, environment, inventions, media and entertainment. It also provides a hands-on learning environment featuring lectures and workshops to support youth ideas, and teach them business skills while motivating them to turn their dreams into reality under expert guidance in each field. VIVA Sponsors the Institutions of Higher Education Debate Competition VIVA sponsored the Institutions of Higher Education debate competition during a ceremony that was held in May in the late Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah auditorium in Kuwait University. The event was attended by Mr. Abdulrazzaq Al Essa, Public Relations and Social Media Director, who honored the winners of the debate. VIVA s sponsorship of the initiative is part of its strategy to encourage students and present them with the opportunity to learn the methods and ways of public speaking, to gain self-confidence and to overcome the fear of communicating between university students in various colleges. VIVA Sponsors the Guests of the Merciful Umrah Pilgrimage In line with VIVA s CSR strategy, the company has sponsored the Kuwaiti Cancer and Anti-Smoking Society s 2013 Umrah pilgrimage under the theme Guests of the Merciful. This year s pilgrimage headed to the Holy Lands on the 17 th of April, giving pilgrims the opportunity to perform their Umrah pilgrimage in an atmosphere of faith and spirituality. VIVA s initiative is in line with its commitment of supporting charitable activities which benefit the wellbeing and health of Kuwait s society. VIVA s representatives, including Mr. Abdulrazzaq Al Essa, Public Relations and Social Media Director, attended the official farewell ceremony, held on the 14 th April at the headquarters of the Kuwaiti Cancer and Anti-Smoking Society. 11

16 Marketing and Segments Mobile Broadband Segment Team The Mobile Broadband Segment team is responsible for leading mobile broadband innovations in the market by analyzing them in order to create internal marketing roadmaps that include products, offers and promotions. This team is responsible for all the new and existing mobile broadband products and activities which were developed based on market demand. Part of the team s duty is to monitor the current mobile broadband market as well as the overall industry and everything that relates to it, such as its network technology, new data modem devices or even tablets and SIM enabled data devices. With that, VIVA was the first to launch a tablet bundled with its internet plans in Kuwait back in November 2011, which was then followed by the ipads in April Now VIVA has gained the status of the best tablet offers in the market. Postpaid Voice Segment Team The Postpaid Voice Segment team is responsible for being the pioneers of postpaid voice offerings in the market through market analysis, in order to create internal marketing roadmaps that include products, offers and promotions. This team is responsible for all the new and existing postpaid voice products and activities which were developed based on market demand. Part of the team s responsibility is to monitor the current market trends and technologies in terms of different segment groups as well as the overall industry in terms of technology, smartphone devices and applications that might be used in highlighting certain existing services. With that, VIVA was the first to officially sign with Apple and launch the official iphone 4 bundles in April 2011, followed by the exclusive official launch of the Samsung Galaxy SII in Kuwait. VIVA is well-known for offering a broader bundled device portfolio with their postpaid voice plans. Prepaid Voice Segment Team The Prepaid Segment team is responsible for being leaders of the prepaid market by analyzing it in order to create marketing internal roadmaps that include products, offers and promotions. This team is responsible for all the new and existing prepaid voice plans and services which were developed based on market demand and its needs including activities and special promotional offers. Part of the team s duty is to monitor the current prepaid market in terms of latest services available, devices and technologies used. With that, VIVA had launched its first prepaid weekly draw, where every week, and for two consecutive years, customers have either won cars or instant cash. VIVA has gained the status of offering only the best to its prepaid segment customers. Loyalty and Retention Team The department is responsible for creating and building loyalty as well as retaining customers who would otherwise leave the company by offering products and services created specifically for different segments. Loyalty and retention is a unique but separate unit within segments that is fundamental to all other teams in segments. The team has one main objective, which is to ensure customers are happy and satisfied. This single objective supports VIVA in maintaining the company s revenues and customer base. Part of the loyalty and retention team s role is to study the reasons why customers are leaving VIVA, since each customer is unique and has their own reasoning. This will aid the team to understand these reasons and prepare what needs to be done to retain the customer and make sure they are happy with VIVA. Loyalty is created with VIVA s customers by crafting a distinct environment that a can be felt by them. Hence, customers will adhere to the company due to it s sense of reliability, trust and real attention to their needs. 14
