2 Education, Training and Employment Directory This Education, Training and Employment (ETE) directory has been produced solely for use by the Recovery Interventions Service Ealing (RISE) ETE coordinators, staff, practitioners, peer mentors and volunteers to advise, signpost and refer clients to suitable ETE opportunities and activities in the borough of Ealing. This directory includes useful information and contact details for clients accessing RISE s substance and alcohol misuse services in Ealing who would like to access education, training or employment services and opportunities locally. Information is included on vocational training, informal learning, Apprenticeships, colleges, volunteering opportunities, employment, Jobcentre Plus, The Work Programme and Local Labour market information. 4 Education and Training Providers Urban Futures Urban Futures delivers a wide range of training both nationally accredited and non- accredited, classroom based and workplace based, and to both the employed and unemployed. Some of the training delivered is mandated to customers (meaning they have an obligation to attend, perhaps as part of a government agency programme such as the Work Programme), whilst other training we offer is directed at existing employees who are low skilled and looking to improve their economic well- being. As an unemployed customer, or someone who is economically inactive (not claiming benefits), you can readily access our training services knowing that you will be receiving a service that is structured to support your career development. Courses available: Construction CSCS Either unemployed and in receipt of benefits, or economically inactive and able to sign a self- declaration form; Able to commit to 5-7 full working days for a Level 1 classroom based course; Identification is a must Provide documentary evidence of your right to access publicly funded training in the UK (normally passport is sufficient); Provide documentary evidence of being in receipt of benefits (normally your DWP benefits letter plus a bank statement showing regular receipt of benefit payments is sufficient). 5 Education and Training Providers Acton Training Centre Ltd Acton Training Centre (ATC) provides Skills for Life, ICT, vocational training accredited to national standards and awarding bodies including the British Computer Society (BCS), City & Guilds, NCFE, Oxford Cambridge RSA and the Institute Leadership and Management. ATC delivers a wide range of vocational courses that lead to qualifications at levels 2 and 3 (and level 4 in Accounting). 7 Education and Training Providers Ealing Hammersmith & West London College Ealing Hammersmith & West London College has 3 campuses in the borough of Ealing: Acton, Southall and Ealing. The Acton campus is a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) in construction crafts and offers an extensive choice of construction courses which are taught in purpose built workshops. The college also offers Engineering, Electronics, Motor Vehicle, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Skills for Life and Supported Learning courses to students of all ages. Onsite child care is also available. 9 Education and Training Providers MIC Southall This Learndirect centre is located on the main Southall Broadway next to TKC restaurant. The training centre is based on the 2nd Floor of a well- known local community centre building, the Ramgharia Hall. It has two IT training rooms, with privacy for women arranged when required, and a classroom for face to face delivery. Courses available: Basic IT Digital Literacy Through government funding you may get your qualification for free. This will be confirmed with you before you start your learning. 10 Education and Training Providers Exchange Group Exchange Group operates a national network of Public Library and shopping centre based training centers which deliver a broad range of services into the heart of the community. Our services are available to all but we especially hope to support those who are low skilled, unemployed or considering changing career. The centre offers drop in and use of facilities. Offers a broad range of flexible courses leading to recognised qualifications including free IT, Maths and English courses. 11 Apprenticeship Providers An Apprenticeship is a real job with training so you can earn while you learn and pick up some recognised qualifications as you go. They take between one and four years to complete and cover 1,200 job roles, in a range of industries, from things like engineering to financial advice, veterinary nursing to accountancy. Apprenticeships are a great option if you want to progress to a higher qualification, gain work experience and/or follow a vocational route to University or employment. 14 Apprenticeship Providers Ealing Apprenticeships Ealing s apprenticeship programme has been designed to provide opportunities for young people (aged between 16 and 24). You will work in one of the council's service areas and be expected to work towards a qualification at Level 2 in your first year (equivalent of key stage 4) and Level 3 in your second year (equivalent of 2 A levels). You do not need special skills, work experience or qualifications. 15 Volunteering Opportunities Are you at the point in life when you don't know what career path to take? Why not gain some work experience by volunteering? Volunteering is open to anyone and everyone regardless of your background or personal circumstances. In Ealing there are a number of volunteer centres that can give you the opportunity to volunteer in a range of different sectors. Volunteering can offer the chance to learn new skills, meet new people, make new friends and play a real part in the life of your local community. Volunteering can also help with: Gaining confidence Improving self- esteem Feeling valued Building up trust Giving you direction and a sense of purpose It can also be a route to employment, or a chance to try something new which may lead to a career change. It gives you an idea of whether you really do want to pursue s a particular career path. Prospective employers also value your experience as much as your qualifications. Volunteering can help you to gain new skills, knowledge and experience; develop existing skills and knowledge; enhance your CV as well as improve your employment prospects. 16 Volunteering Opportunities Ealing Volunteer Centre At Ealing Volunteer Centre we work with hundreds of different charities and community groups in Ealing. Many of these rely heavily on volunteers to provide their services and some are entirely volunteer run. They tell us their volunteering opportunities which we match to potential volunteers. We work with Ealing based charities, community groups and public sector organisations and collate all their information and the different volunteer roles available with them on our database. 17 Volunteering Opportunities Ealing Mencap As a volunteer with Ealing Mencap you can work with people with a learning disability; campaign with us for change; fundraise with us; and even take part in decisions about what Ealing Mencap does. Whether you fancy driving for a couple of hours a week to help get our members to the various clubs we run, or take part in supporting the service users in their sessions. We are also in the process of setting up exciting new social enterprise businesses where adults with learning disabilities maintain and manage. You can get involved and help support them! The social enterprise businesses range from Community cafe business, car wash service, flapjack business (making and selling flapjacks), and Market stall (making and selling products on a stall). We re looking for people from all walks of life. Everyone is an individual and everyone can bring something unique to Ealing Mencap. Just a couple of hours a week would be all that we would ask the choice is yours dependent on your own ability to help us. 18 Employment Support Services Acton Training Centre Employability Skills: Gain an OCR qualification in Employability Skills - Working on the Employability Skills units will help you improve your skills in communication, customer service, team working and taking instructions. The Employability Skills qualifications are available at Entry level 3, and Levels 1 and 2 (QCF). Digital Skills for Work: This two- day IT course will give you a basic working knowledge of: Microsoft Word Using a computer for your job search Search engines Training takes place at one of ATC s West London centres. During the two- day course you will be based in an IT suite with your own individual computer work station. Different teaching techniques will be used to ensure you get the maximum benefit from the course. Job search support will continue for up to 8 weeks after you have completed your IT course. The full two- day course is presented under the following topics: Understanding computers and their uses Introduction to Microsoft Windows Writing a winning CV Setting up a professional account, and using Using the internet and search engines; using the internet on your phone Applying for jobs online To be eligible you must be living in one of the following London boroughs: Ealing, Harrow, or Hammersmith and Fulham. 19 Employment Support Services Ealing & Northolt Work Clubs Employment Support available: The Ealing Work Club helps residents to find sustained employment. It will run every Friday from 19 October 2012 on a drop in basis. The Copley close club helps residents to find sustained employment. It runs every Mondays/Tuesday on a drop- in basis. Time: 10am - 15pm The work club is fully equipped with IT and will provide unemployed adult residents with practical advice and support including: help with searching for a job CV building interview techniques help in completing application forms access to vocational training and other education opportunities Anybody living in the borough of Ealing and looking for work is welcome to attend. If you re working for 16 hours a week as a single person or a lone parent, or 24 hours a week as a couple with or without children, you ll avoid the benefits cap. 20 Employment Support Services Blue Sky Development & Regeneration Blue Sky Development and Regeneration is a social enterprise that employs ex- offenders and offers them jobs in grounds maintenance, recycling sectors and related areas. Blue Sky Development & Regeneration is a not- for- profit company established by the charity Groundwork Thames Valley. It was set up to give paid work to people coming out of prison, to enable them to move successfully into long- term employment. Blue Sky employs solely ex- offenders in the grounds maintenance and recycling sectors. 21 Employment Support Services Get Ahead Project The Get Ahead programme has been set up to offer you the added support you need when faced with uncertainty and could make a real change to your future. In addition to access to our adult learning courses, this project can introduce you to voluntary opportunities, work placements and support networks that you may not yet have considered. Support to overcome barriers, improve education, increase job application and career prospects. 1:1 guidance with advisors tailored specifically to your needs and current abilities. 22 Employment Support Services Catalyst Gateway: Catalyst Jobs and Skills Project This project provides intensive one to one employability support and training in key areas such as Maths, English and IT. Along with CV writing workshops, this project will boost confidence, motivate participants and support them to access the world of world. Catalyst Gateway, our project partners, and several other local employers have made a commitment to offer valuable work experience for participants. Together, they will give voluntary work placements, tailored to help the individual to develop in areas they will require for their chosen career path. 24 Employment Support Services The Work Programme The Work Programme is an employment programme to help people into sustainable employment and runs alongside current Jobcentre Plus activity to provide employment support. The programme has a flexible and tailored approach, with individual journeys agreed by the client and an advisor that is assigned to them. Advisors work alongside other organisations which may already be supporting the client to address their barriers, such as drug and alcohol support. It supports the customer to manage their health concerns whilst looking for work The programme provides support with the transition from benefits to wages, to ensure the customer is financially better off in work than on benefits. Once in employment, the Work Programme continues to support the customer with in- work interventions such as, career development, coping with stress and other kinds of information, advice and guidance. Work Programme advisors work with customers throughout their journey into sustained employment, for up to two years. Some customers such as single parents and those still receiving incapacity benefits will be able to enter the programme on a voluntary basis. 27 Local Labour Market Information Local Picture: Ealing is home to more than 330,000 people, the borough is made up of seven areas: Acton, Ealing, Greenford, Hanwell, Northolt, Perivale and Southall. Ealing is prosperous with around 155,000 people in work and an average household income of 36,000 a year. Ealing has a thriving economy; some 82,000 people are employed in small and medium enterprises. Significant growth has occurred in media, financial and business services. Manufacturing remains a strong element of the economy, focusing on specialist engineering and processing (particularly printing and food). London Borough of Ealing Map Sub Region: West London is one of the most economically active areas of London with a vibrant local economy where blue- chip international conglomerates sit comfortably alongside a mix of urban and suburban residential communities. Strategically located between Heathrow Airport and Central London, the six Boroughs that make up West London (Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow) are home to 1.4 million people and a workforce of 750,000. The area boasts the world's busiest airport, Heathrow and Europe's largest industrial estate, Park Royal. West London contributes some 27 billion a year to the UK economy.
