1 Edjoin Multiple Subject Students Tips for Profile Set- Up Your Edjoin Profile includes several sections. Tips for each section are highlighted below. MY INFO Social Security Number (SSN): The intent of Edjoin asking for your SSN is to match you with the Commission on Teacher (CTC) records and import your credential into your application. Because you do not have a credential yet you can leave this section blank. You will provide your credential information through a different process. Exclude My Profile from the Edjoin Applicant Bank statement at bottom of page: From time to time potential employers will search the Edjoin system for all applicants in the database who might be interested in a particular subject. This does not happen frequently, but it does happen. If you check this box, your profile will not be visible in this type of search it will be excluded. If you do not check this box, your profile will be available for any Edjoin user to view in an applicant search. Checking or not checking this box in no way impacts information available to a district you submit an application to. MY EMPLOYMENT Follows the same guidelines as your resume as far as which employers to list. For student teaching positions be sure you make it perfectly clear that you were not the teacher of the class but rather the student teacher. MY REFERENCES You will list your professional references that most likely will be the same as the writers of your letters of recommendation. Any person listed should be able to speak to your ability to teach and have had some experience with you in that capacity. Examples would be your UCD supervisor, long- term or short- term resident teacher, and site principal or vice principal. Always get the person s approval before you list them as a reference. MY EDUCATION In the section asking for your MOST CURRENT College this is where you list: Name of School: University of California, Davis Major: Credential/MA Attended: *8/1/12 6/13/13 *This date varies and you can adjust to the date you started student teaching. Units: The number of units varies between units depending on your subject area and any equivalent coursework you completed prior to the program. It is acceptable to provide an estimate. Degree/Certificate: Credential Cumulative/GPA: You can locate your GPA thus far in the program in SISWEB on your transcripts.

2 MY CREDENTIALS This section is where things get trickier so I am providing a screen shot of each portion of this section along with tips on what to enter. Box 1 - Credentials you possess In this section you will select the credential you will earn and add to this section. Start by clicking on the Add a Credential tab and the following screen will appear. Below this screen shot is a definition of each required entry: Credential Type: When you select the drop down menu every credential ever issued by the CTC will appear close to 200 different credential types. You are only interested in a few of these. Line 1 & 2: You will select EITHER Multiple Subject without a BCLAD authorization noted OR Multiple Subject with BLS BCLAD: Spanish if you are in the BCLAD part of our program.

3 Line 3: If you earn a supplementary or subject matter authorization (which is an additional authorization based on an evaluation of your coursework completed previously) you will add this authorization. The subject area will change for example, EC English Composition might be Geoscience. Authorized Field: This is where you would select BCLAD, English Comp, Geoscience. State/Country: This will always California Expiration Date: You will earn a Preliminary teaching credential, it will be valid for 5 years, and will expire 7/1/2018. (We ll discuss what to do to clear the preliminary before it expires at another session.) Box 2 NCLB In this section you will indicate what subjects you are considered NCLB compliant in. NCLB compliance is determined by your first employer and is based on meeting three factors: 1) BA/BS degree, 2) a valid and appropriate teaching credential, and 3) proving your knowledge of the subject by passing CSET or holding a Subject Matter Waiver. You will meet the NCLB requirements for your subject at the end of our program and will want to communicate this information to the potential employer. For this section, check the Multiple Subjects box. Many applications will ask for your Certificate of Compliance document (which is an official school district or county evaluation that you have met the NCLB requirements) to be attached to the application. Since you don t have this yet, we recommend a work- around, which is attaching a PDF document stating that you will be NCLB compliant once you are evaluated. A sample of this document can be found at the end of this FAQ. Box 3 Credential Indicators You will skip this box completely and enter nothing.

4 Box 4 Applied for Credential The wording in this section asks you which college applied for your credential and the date it was applied for on all past tense as in it should have already happened. It is appropriate and acceptable for you to enter the information even though we have not applied for your credential yet. For college: UC DAVIS Date applied: 6/13/13 Box 5 Test, Certificates and Programs Tests: CBEST, RICA, CSET are the common ones to click but only if you have passed. Participating in Programs: You are not participating in any of these programs. I hold the following: CLAD and ELD/SDAIE should be checked by everyone. If you are BCLAD, you will also click on that box. No one will click on BCC or LDS. Box 6 Extracurricular Add any areas you are qualified and willing to coach and that are relevant to the school environment.

5 MY ATTACHMENTS Attachment Library Using this section you will add attachments to your library. It is very important to note these attachments will be available in your Edjoin profile. They are not automatically added to jobs you apply for unless you select/upload them to the application. This allows you to have a wide variety of documents available and decide which are needed for a given job you are applying for. Documents you should gather and upload to your library: a. Appeasement letter (to be replaced by credential eventually) Will be prepared for students making satisfactory progress in the program. Must have passed all test requirements. Letters will be available in Student Services beginning March 15. b. CSET passing scores or Subject Matter Waiver verification You will need to upload official scores. If you score reported to UCD the documentation we have does not meet the requirement of what you need. Order copies of your test scores through the test agency s website. Allow 2-3 weeks. c. CBEST passing scores This is the same situation as for CSET scores. d. Letters of recommendation You will want 3 or 4 different letters available to use. Ask for these letters weeks in advance of the time you need them.

6 e. Credential program transcript Most employers accept unofficial transcripts for the online application and the student version through SISWEB will work while you are still in the program. Once your grades are posted after Spring Quarter you will want to order 2 copies of official UCD graduate transcripts. You will open one transcript and upload to your Edjoin profile now and keep the other transcript sealed to provide to your employer upon hire. f. Official transcript from undergraduate college Save time and stress by ordering 2 official transcripts from your BA/BS degree awarding college now. You will open one transcript and upload to your Edjoin profile now and keep the other transcript sealed to provide to your employer upon hire. If you attended more than one college as an undergrad you will want to provide transcripts from each college. g. Resume Some students use only one resume for all applications while others prefer to have more than one version. If you have more than one resume, be sure you clearly label the file. Also, remember you can schedule an appointment at the Internship and Career Center to have your resume reviewed or for assistance. h. Cover letters It is best to personalize your cover letters for each job/district. Be sure to name each cover letter you upload so you know exactly which job/district it is written for. i. NCLB work- around Personalize the work- around letter and save as a PDF. I recommend naming the file: Last name, first name, NCLB. j. CLAD/ELL work- around Personalize the work- around letter and save as a PDF. I recommend naming the file: Last name, first name, CLAD. Attachment Restrictions: PDF is the preferred format for your uploads but RTF, JPG, GIF, and TXT are accepted. Word documents are not accepted. You cannot upload a document that exceeds 1 MB and your profile total space cannot exceed 12 MB. MY INTERESTS There are two items in this section: your job interests & your geographic interests. Districts use this information when they search the database. Job Interests: You can indicate what job you are interested in, i.e., teacher 1-3, teacher 4-6, teacher K- 6, and coach. Area/Geographic Interest: You can indicate your interest in working in a certain area, i.e., Northern California, Southern California, or even a specific district. Be cautious on this one. You don t want to appear too flexible by saying you are willing to work everywhere. Be realistic. It is even ok to leave this blank.

7 NCLB work around letter NCLB Verification Applicant: Your Name I am currently a credential student at UC Davis and anticipate completing the program on 6/13/2013. I have not been evaluated for NCLB compliance but meet the requirements of degree, appropriate credential, and have passed the CSET exam to show my subject matter competence.

8 ELL/CLAD work around letter CLAD/English Learner Authorization Applicant: Your Name I am currently a credential student at UC Davis and anticipate completing the program on 6/13/2013. My SB2042 credential will include an English Learner Authorization.
