1 PROJECT: Arapahoe Ridge High School PROJECT NO: DATE: June 11, 2008 MEETING REPORT ATTENDANCE: Rex Hartman (BVSD), Joan Bludorn (ARHS), Dave Krassowsk (ARHS), Pat Z. (RTA), Doug Abernethy (RTA), Mike Riggs (RTA), Matt Hildreth (RTA). SUBJECT: Arapahoe Ridge DAT #5 Program 1. RTA distributed the Revised Second Draft of the Program. a. There not any major modifications to the Administration area b. Counseling - there is a need for 2 interventionists and 2 counselors. i. An additional counselor office should be added. c. ESL an additional ESL classroom was added per comments from DAT #4 d. Science the small group learning spaces were removed per comments from DAT #4 e. Instructional Area s total i. There subtotal of Instructional space is shown to grow by 11,028 sqft mostly due new office space and built space in lieu of portables. a. Collision Repair Auto Tech the areas of the these classes has been re-allocated, but the overall size of the Transportation Infrastructure Strand does not change. b. Construction Trades this space is shown to utilize the existing classroom space as part of the instructional lab i. The classroom space needed will be accommodated with the addition of the Flex classrooms shown in the Instructional areas total. c. Culinary Arts new information from the Longmont program is being gathered by Rex d. Banking program space is shown reduced per comments from DAT #4. e. Print Shop there are ongoing meetings within the district to determine what the space requirements for the existing print shop would be. i. There appears to be under utilized space in the print shop ii. Some machines are not being used iii. Dark rooms are not utilized iv. 2 1. It was noted by Pat Z. that programs similar to Multmedia and graphics have been shared at other programs in the state. 2. Potential for a student of of 20 vs. 12 if the classes are shared. f. Nursing the space should be programmed for a capacity of 15 to 18 students vs. 7 to 9. g. Custodial this has been trimmed to reflect existing spaces that will be re-used. h. the size of the increase has been revised to reflect a more accurate assessment i. Teen Parenting i. The current thought in the district is that Teen Parenting will be moving to Arapahoe Ridge. ii. Additional budget money will be needed to add this scope to the project. j. Day Treatment this program relocation has not been determined. 2. Budget and Bond Scope a. It is hard to determine the exact scope of the bond scope due to numerous revisions to the final cost budget. b. Rex believes that the final construction budget will be 4.6 million. i. Dependant on contingency this may be able to raise up close to 5 million c. It is still hard to understand what portion of the 4.6 will be for new construction vs. renovation vs. facility infrastructure upgrades. i. The latest program suggests that the new construction could be accomplished with in the budget, but the cost of renovation would push the cost beyond the budget. d. There is not currently any money included in the bond for major renovations or additions. e. In order to clarify the total cost to implement the proposed program Rex would like to have the areas of renovation identified and cost estimated at $145 per square foot. i. An in depth walkthrough may be needed to assess how much renovation will be need to upgrade existing spaces. ii. Determine areas which require Minor, Moderate, and Major renovation. f. Culinary Arts this program is a high priority addition to the campus, however there is not any money earmarked in the bond budget description Addition/Renovation Options 1. Option B expanding to the west of the current Admin. a. Rex has discussed the proximity of this option to the Existing high voltage power lines with Jon Bollinger. It was recommended that the school not expand any closer to the power lines. 3 respect to the power lines, however there isn t any conclusive evidence to prove it is safe or harmful. 2. A proposal to provide an addition to the north with teen parenting and classrooms was discussed a. The drop off area could be revised with the school wrapping the drop off loop. b. The existing entry would be enlarged and would allow a common entry for the school and the teen parenting program. c. If classrooms were included in the addition there is a possibility for a better view corridor and daylight. d. Potential for Addition in the Front, Common spaces in the middle and a renovation of the core buildings e. RTA will investigate this option further 3. Items that apply to multiple schemes were discussed a. Teen Parenting is preferred to be included in the ARHS project and not a separate stand alone element. i. There is economy in scale and multiple story option with Teen Parenting being combined with the other work b. Culinary Arts is not currently included in the bond and could be a phase item. i. Potential to phase it with flex classrooms on a second level at a later date. c. Science Labs could be best served by locating them into the core and also have the 2 lab adjacent to each other. i. Possibility to maintain existing ARHS lab and renovate a new lab in the existing landscape classroom ii. It was noted that the existing physical science lab is sufficient if not slightly under utilized. d. Auto Tech / Collision i. There may still be a desire by some teachers to start a diesel bay ii. RTA to investigate whether there is space adjacent to collision to the west for a small expansion e. CIS/Gaming/Multimedia/Print Shop i. It is important to keep the CIS/Forensics/Gaming group together. ii. Multimedia can combine with the print shop/graphics components. iii. and forensics has the potential of a joint partnerships if presented and overseen gently. 1. Work space sharing 2. apprenticeships f. Judy Scuppa will be conducting an analysis of the curriculum over the coming school year. There is concern over the program assessment that has been presented and discussed with the DAT versus what the curriculum needs may be after the assessment. i. After completion of the next round of revisions and schematic options, a meeting with Judy, as well as, the new principal and instructional directors should take place. ii.
