1 CALL FOR PROPOSALS 2013 Annual Training Conference Invitation to Present The (ARA) invites your participation in the 2013 Annual Training Conference, which will be held at Doubletree Hotel in Hot Little Rock, Arkansas. The theme of the 2013 Annual Training Conference is We re Better Together: Connecting Professionals who Care! All interested individuals, facilities, agencies and organizations, are invited to submit proposals for concurrent session presentations. The ARA Program Committee will review and select submissions that consider the proposals contributions to a well-balanced program of interest to the members of the ARA, who represent public and private rehabilitation agencies, facilities, hospitals, schools and other organizations serving the needs of individuals with disabilities. Requested proposal topics include (proposals focusing on these topics will be given priority) Dealing with Difficult People: Consumers and Staff Dual Diagnosis: Co-Morbid or Co-Existing Disorders Medication Issues Autistic Spectrum Disorders Mental Health First Aid Communication Skills Stress Management and Joy Rehabilitation Partnerships Benefits of Professional in Work Associations Time Management Networking Advocacy Positive Behavior Supports Living with a Disability: Personal Stories Leadership and Supervisory Skills Addiction Disorders ADA and Reasonable Accommodations Sexuality and Disability Other recommended proposal topics include (but are not limited to) Access Diversity Managed Care Research in Rehabilitation Accommodations in Classroom Settings Ethics* Job Placement: Partnership with School-to-Work Transition Employers Building Success in the Classroom Crisis Management Rehabilitation Counseling Technological Advancements Cultural Awareness Legislative Updates Personal Health and Retirement Planning Wellness SSI/SSDI Benefits Planning Procurement Computer Skills Supported Employment *Ethics presentations must be based on the current CRC Code of Ethics and should include discussion of the Code, as well as cite specific codes addressed in the presentation.

2 Page Annual Training Conference Proposals should be designed for concurrent sessions of either one hour or one and one-half (1.5) hour duration. All concurrent sessions will be set up theater style with a table and a screen. Please be sure to accurately complete the AV Request included in the Call for Proposals. NOTE: NO laptops or projectors will be provided and each presenter is responsible for bringing their own equipment. Selected presenters are responsible for all lodging, travel, additional audiovisual equipment rental, and per diem costs associated with their participation in the conference. Presenters who do not register for the conference are invited to attend other conference sessions at no cost on the day of their presentation only, but will not be eligible for continuing education credits for those sessions. Review Criteria for Proposals: Overall quality; Relevance to the field of rehabilitation; Well-defined focus that can be presented in a one hour or 1.5 hour format; Practical application of idea presented; Originality and timeliness of idea. Ethics presentations based on the CRC Code of Ethics should so indicate Notification: Notification of proposal inclusion will be provided to the primary presenter no later than April 1, Instructions for Proposal Submission: Please use the Call for Proposals form or an exact duplicate. Please assure all information is clearly legible Submit the original plus two copies (only if mailed); Application must be complete Do not exceed the space provided (please do not add extra sheets except those containing presenter vita information); Handouts must accompany program proposal applications. Handouts, including alternative formats for handouts, are the speakers responsibilities to provide on-site. Include a one-page resume or vita for each presenter. Proposals must be received by March 1, The following information is required to obtain program certification credit. Please be sure to complete pages 3, 4, 5, and 6. Presentations on Ethics must indicate inclusion and discussion of the CRC Code of Ethics to meet CRC credit requirements, and must cite specific codes that will be addressed. 3. Objectives/Method. List program objective(s) in clear Terms. Example: 1. Identify the problems associated with substance abuse 2. Develop strategies to facilitate employment. 2. Content. Provide an outline of the content to be presented for each objective. Example: A. The most common problems 1,2,3 B. Discuss strategies 1,2,3 3. Time Frame. State the time frame for each objective.
