While we are committed to making a measurable difference, we cannot forget that we are also running businesses with significant risks. In this workshop, we will help you develop an inventory of issues your organization may one day need to navigate and create an action plan with tactical next steps. We?ll discuss technology and social media, human resources, emergency plans (and communication plans to go with them), and insurance requirements related to running a successful nonprofit. You'll leave this session knowing you have the important and often overlooked details of your day-to-day operations covered. 6/12/ :00 am - 12:00 Master Composter Local Coordinator Training Orientation Sara Nichols In this pre-conference session, you'll learn the ins and outs of the Master Composter Program and discover resources that STAR can provide for communities that host Master Composter training events. Attendees will also have the opportunity to network with others who are interested in bringing backyard composting to their communities. You'll leave with takeaways on how to get started with Master Composting projects in your own community. 6/12/ :30-2:00 Opening Luncheon with Grady McGahan Grady McGahan This year at Keep Texas Beautiful?s Annual Conference, we?re all about looking ahead, solving real-world problems and taking the future into our hands. Grady McGahan, Executive Director of RETREET, will kick off our conference with an energizing look at how to motivate and support the growth and needs in your local community. RETREET is a nonprofit organization dedicated to redefining disaster relief by engaging communities to replant lost trees. RETREET has worked with several KTB communities affected by natural disasters. By working with local volunteers, partners and supporters like KTB, RETREET not only restores and beautifies ecosystems, but also replants and rebuilds communities. 6/12/2017 2:15-3:30 Missouri City's Edible Arbor Trail Paul Wierzbicki Missouri City's Edible Arbor Trail is a 2.5-mile trail lined with groves of fruit and nut bearing trees and shrubs. During this breakout session, you'll learn about the trail?s develoent and growth over the past five years. Keep Missouri Beauiful?s team will explain how the trail has encouraged residents of all ages to conserve natural resources and adopt earth-friendly actions of their own. Attendees will learn best practices for initiating a nature trail project in their own community, as well as the benefits of this eco-friendly engagement. Page 1

2 6/12/2017 2:15-3:30 Partnerships and Resources Brenda Flores-Dollar Need more time? Resources? Ideas? We want to do it all, but to do a great job, we need good partners and resources. Join us in this session to brainstorm about how we can work together to help local schools and communities. We ll discuss changes coming to the Don t mess with Texas campaign; youth education; and new programs, projects, and resources. We ll hear examples of how Don t mess with Texas, TxDOT and KTB affiliates can work together. Chris Lash from Keep McAllen Beautiful will discuss her approach to organizing local DMWTTO events and Valerie Eaves, TxDOT s Travel Information Center Supervisor, will discuss Litter Force, and how a local school is working with their community. You will leave this session with plans on programs, projects and resources for your future activities. 6/12/2017 2:15-3:30 Successful Succession Planning Tara Levy Succession planning for your organization is like writing a will. You know you should do it but don?t want to because it means facing a scary eventuality. Having a comprehensive succession plan in place for when your leadership leaves is an essential component of a healthy nonprofit. In this session, we?ll discuss how to plan for succession of your top leadership, staff and key volunteers (including your board). Attendees will leave with concrete next steps to create a plan that builds legacy and continuity for your organization. 6/12/2017 2:15-3:30 Cultivating Corporate Partnerships Leticia Mendoza Nonprofit organizations and companies both benefit from developing partnerships. It?s a winwin! Corporate sponsors provide funding and support for a nonprofit?s mission, while gaining valuable marketing outreach and media attention. In this session, Leticia Mendoza, H-E-B Public Affairs Manager, will share her insights on what sponsors are looking for, as well as her expertise on how affiliates should reach out to corporations and develop relationships. Amanda Byrom, Keep Midland Beautiful? s Executive Director, will provide tips and strategies for successfully identifying and cultivating corporate partnerships from an affiliate perspective. Learn how to deliver a valuable experience that not only meets your needs, but your sponsor's as well, and keeps them coming back year after year! 6/12/2017 3:45-5:00 Optimizing Cleanup Site Registrations with GIS Mapping Monica Maxwell Learn how we integrated geographic information system (GIS) mapping to significantly reduce staff time spent on cleanup site registrations for our largest community cleanup event. Utilizing GIS provides the opportunity to use site criteria and visual data analytics, which can be powerful tools in supporting ongoing volunteerism and community engagement. This session will include how we developed and implemented our new cleanup site registration system utilizing GIS mapping data and the numerous uses and benefits it can bring to your organization. Learn how the Texas Children in Nature Network, a KTB partner, is reversing this trend, and discover programs available to your affiliate to help you reach children and families through nature, including Nature Rocks and the Texas Nature Challenge. 6/12/2017 3:45-5:00 Promoting Conservation via River Access John Botros This breakout session will provide an overview of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's (TPWD) River Access and Conservation Area (RACA) program. Come hear about the goals and outcomes of the RACA program, the TPWD/KTB partnership and the Conserving Texas Rivers Initiative. This presentation will also touch upon the role rivers play in providing ecotourism and economic develoent. You will leave this session with action steps to implement TPWD programs in your own community. 6/12/2017 3:45-5:00 Best Practices for Boards Brent Lyles It sounds so easy, doesn't it? Whether you're a board member or on staff, understanding how boards work (and why they sometimes don't) can be a tricky business. In this session, you'll get some helpful tips on best practices for boards: keeping board members engaged, building diversity, handling difficult board members, and avoiding common mistakes. With real-world examples from Keep Longview Beautiful and other small nonprofits, you?ll leave this session brimming with ideas, tools, and inspiration. 6/12/2017 5:15-6:00 Annual Meeting/Board Meeting The Annual Meeting/Board Meeting will feature the election and installation of the 2018 Keep Texas Beautiful Board of Directors and officers, a year-end review and the annual TxDOT report. This session is open to any and every interested KTB member. Page 3

This evening will include live entertainment, dinner and a cash bar. Current affiliates are invited to mingle with past members and friends of KTB while we make a nod to our past, and look forward to our future together as we Keep Texas Beautiful. 6/12/2017 9:00 am - 11:30 am Utilizing The Keep America Beautiful Behavior Change System Cecile Carson In this pre-conference session for Keep America Beautiful (KAB) members, you will learn how to use the KAB Behavior Change System to end littering, improve recycling and beautify your own community here in Texas. This interactive session will include hands-on tools to evaluate programs and develop an action plan to work with others to implement change for your organization?s future. Participants will discuss case studies and identify strategies to address local issues. *This session is open to Keep America Beautiful affiliates only. 6/12/2017 9:00 am - 12:00 Introduction to Keep Texas Beautiful and Affiliate Coordination (2017) Christine Chute Canul Once again, we have combined these two important affiliate sessions to give you more bang for your buck!?introduction to KTB? gives new affiliates, board members and staff an overview of Keep Texas Beautiful. Designed to provide a solid affiliate foundation, the training covers such topics as developing a board, setting up committees and program involvement. In the second half of the session,?affiliate Coordination? will offer tools and ideas that surpass the fundamentals of the introductory session. As you plan your affiliate's future, experienced coordinators will be available to provide insight into what it takes to maximize your resources and take your affiliate to higher ground. 6/13/2017 1:45-3:00 Graffiti Going Green Lisa McKenzie The City of San Antonio's Graffiti Abatement Program has gone green! From the 100% recycled content paint they use to cover up graffiti, to rewashing and reusing roller covers and purchasing low environmental impact chemicals, they're doing their part to reduce their footprint while beautifying the city. In this session, city staff will explain how they made this ecoconscious project happen, and how you can green your city?s future graffiti abatement efforts. Page 4

You will learn the right response- the LEADER?S response! 6/13/2017 1:45-3:00 The International Coastal Cleanup: Not Just for Beaches Allison Schutes Regardless of a community?s distance from the ocean, local cleanups, education and marine debris prevention measures have significant benefit to our oceans. Originating on South Padre Island, Texas, in September 1986, the International Coastal Cleanup (Cleanup) is the largest volunteer effort on behalf of the ocean. Over the past 32 years, over 12 million volunteers have collected nearly 230 million pounds of trash covering 395,000 miles of shoreline. This session will explain how event organizers have been able to accomplish so much and why transnational litter prevention efforts are key to preserving our oceans? health. 6/13/2017 1:45-3:00 Youth and Educator Award Winners Panel Each year, the Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) Youth and Educator Awards recognize the efforts of individuals and groups who make efforts to enhance their community and protect the Texas environment. Join these extraordinary youth as they share how they are working to improve their community environment and discuss their award-winning community work. 6/13/ :00 am - 11:15 am Innovative Solutions to Illegal Dumping Shannon Reiter This session will provide an overview of Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful?s comprehensive and strategic approach to significantly reduce illegal dumping in Pennsylvania. In this session, KPB?s President will review the various innovative, and some more traditional, tools and resources used over the past 20 years. From illegal dumping surveys, enforcement support programs, cost and public opinion research, policy recommendations, community abatement and engagement programs- participants will surely find something new to add to their toolbox to help reduce illegal dumping in their community. Come discover how two small affiliates are doing just that! Armadillos Get Involved - We Rise by Lifting Others - was a project to promote civic pride through volunteerism. Through this project, the entire school district staff and student body partnered with city employees and members of civic groups to conduct maintenance and beautification projects across the City of San Saba and San Saba Independent School District. We will explain the steps taken to accomplish this major undertaking that taught everyone the importance of volunteering. Getting started as a new affiliate can be a daunting task! Learn how Nolanville tackled affiliation develoent in six easy steps, how they adapt KTB programs to fit the needs of their community, and lessons learned so you don't make the same missteps. Insurance Solutions for KTB Affiliates Kelly Fitzgibbon Understanding insurance is not second nature to most people. It?s complicated. You need guidance to help identify what?s right for you. Whether you are a board member or an executive director, there are steps you can take to protect your organization and yourself from potential losses. In this session, you will learn about potential exposures associated with your organization?s operations and gain a better understanding of how those events can be best addressed with tools such as insurance and risk management. 6/13/ :00 am - 11:15 am Cities Connecting Children to Nature Ryan Spencer The CCCN initiative is a pilot program that helps select city leaders and their partners ensure all children have the opportunity to play, learn and grow in nature. These elements apply across a broad range of city concerns, including community health and wellness, education improvement, out-of-school time programming, job creation, transportation, and land use. Hear from representatives from the city of Austin on the work they're doing to close the nature-gap and how your affiliate can successfully implement these strategies. 6/13/ :30 am - 1:30 Don't mess with Texas Luncheon featuring the KTB Youth and Educator Awards You won't want to miss this luncheon, as representatives from TxDOT's Don't mess with Texas Campaign share some of the most exciting develoents of the program over the past year! The winners of the KTB Youth and Educator Awards will also be recognized. Page 6

7 6/13/2017 3:15-4:30 Innovative Outreach Strategies to Create Awareness Martha Cavazos Fipps Are you puzzled about how to convey beautification, conservation and litter prevention in a new and exciting way? Discover what other local, state and national organizations are doing and incorporate their ideas into your outreach, programming and presentations. You will also learn how to create an interactive photo booth that is not only fun but inspires change and awareness. 6/13/2017 3:15-4:30 Frisco's Adopt-A-Street Program Molly Kinson In 2016 Frisco's Adopt-A-Street program, an essential volunteer program for the city, was completely revitalized. City leaders introduced e-newsletters to motivate teams and GIS technology as a tool to administer the program more efficiently. This increased overall program participation by more than 200% and also significantly increased the amount of litter removed. This breakout session will teach you how to implement these cutting-edge technologies to launch your volunteer programs into the future. 6/13/2017 3:15-4:30 Recycling Outreach to Underserved Neighborhoods Memi Cardenas This presentation will explore current trends and challenges in the recycling and materials management industry. Attendees will learn about the current state of recycling in Texas, the evolution of the material stream and increased quality concerns. The session will also include tools for addressing contamination and developing strategic communication with target audiences. 6/13/2017 3:15-4:30 Marketing 201: Taking Your Public Communications to the Next Level Lisa Goodgame Your general communications plan is well-established, but now you're looking to grow your organization's profile, and to prepare for the unexpected. In this session, we'll cover the following: how to build and market sustained Facebook advertising campaigns to build your audience and spread your message; how to prepare for and respond effectively when crisis strikes; and how to draft effective communications pieces for the media. You'll leave this session with a game plan for implementing effective and affordable social media ad campaigns, a template for creating a crisis communications plans, and resources for writing solid press releases, media advisories, and op-eds. In addition to the awards ceremony, TxDOT will show a short film of highlights from each winning community. Serving as emcee is Bob Kaufman, TxDOT's chief communications officer. This is a celebration not to be missed! 6/13/2017 8:30 am - 9:45 am Litter Free: Texas' Adopt-a-Spot Interactive Website Cody Whittenburg In this session, representatives from the City of Fort Worth will describe the develoent, implementation and evaluation of Fort Worth's comprehensive Litter Program and Texas? Adopta-Spot interactive website. The City of Fort Worth, with support from its partners, successfully developed a Comprehensive Litter Management Plan and Litter Program in response to concerns of Fort Worth citizens while embracing a holistic system/watershed-based approach. The presentation will also address the background and public need to develop a Litter Management Plan and the methods involved in creating a city-wide program. 6/13/2017 8:30 am - 9:45 am Putting Pen to Paper: How to Best Represent Your Community in Grant Applications Donna Kliewer Join this informative session designed to explain how to fill out the GCAA application and other similar grant applications from a two-time GCAA awardee. Learn how to write up your community?s accomplishments into a quality, information-packed and winning application. There is no magic formula?. but we do have some magic in what to say, how to say it and what absolutely must be in applications you submit on behalf of your community. Christine Chute Canul, KTB?s Senior Program Director, will also walk through the new GCAA online application, which will go live in September Page 8

In this session, we?ll share a simple list of resources for marketers and non-marketers alike to help you see a greater Return on Investment on all of your affiliate?s hard work. Together, we?ll review a take-home list of the most critical marketing best practices including setting up your branding, using a simple editorial calendar, publishing to social media, creating engaging graphics, sending important newsletters and promoting your events. We?ll also give you easy tools to help you reach out to your local media, as well as read and create summary marketing reports to show how your work is making real impact in your community. During the conference we?ll have posters set up in the Awards Room for you to record your most common challenges and solutions, and then we?ll use these ideas to initiate discussions.
