2 THE Game Rangers Association of Africa in collaboration with the South African Department of will present the Rhino Conservation Awards in This will be the third year that these awards will recognize role players involved in rhino protection. The key to the success of protecting the rhino will lie in the dedication of all the people involved in the fight against rhino poaching in Africa. These people often do selfless and unrecognized work to save a heritage that could be lost forever. Sometimes this happens in the face of physical danger, political opposition and financial constraints. These factors make the contribution of each role player even more worthy of recognition hence the reason for these awards. The primary objective of the awards is to give recognition to the winners, runners up and all nominees, and in doing so raise awareness of what is done in the war against rhino poaching and motivating involved role players to keep fighting to ensure the rhino s survival. The Rhino Conservation Awards will be presented on Thursday 31 July 2014 at a Gala Dinner function in Gauteng, South Africa. It will coincide with the celebration of World Ranger Day as proclaimed by the IUCN, and will be attended by members of the Department of Environment Affairs, National Parks, media, sponsors, NGOs and other organizations related to rhino conservation. {1}

3 2014 AWARD CATEGORIES: Only work done over the past 12 months starting June 2013 will be considered in the adjudication. 1) Best Field Ranger: This must be an employed field ranger who works daily in the field of active rhino protection and risks personal safety and comfort to do so. 2) Best conservation practitioner: This must be a person who is employed in conservation and fighting rhino poaching through protected area management, intelligence gathering, strategic anti-poaching operation management etc. 3) Best Political and Judicial support: This must be a person or entity that plays a significant role in the political or judicial arenas and whose actions resulted in supporting the protection of rhino. 4) Best Science, Research and Technology: This must be a person or entity whose work in science, research or technological invention or application has contributed significantly to protecting rhino. 5) Best Awareness, Education and Funding: This must be a person or entity that has done significant work in the field of awareness, education or project funding regarding rhino protection and conservation. The following three pages must be submitted as your nomination. 1. Nominations for awardees are open to any person/entity that meets the criteria set down below and who did work since June 2013 in fighting rhino poaching in any African rhino range state. 2. Your motivation may not exceed the allotted space provided, and should follow the criteria given. 3.
