1 2017 AFP SC Lowcountry Philanthropy Awards The Art of Philanthropy Nomination Information The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) annual awards program recognizes the significant role philanthropy plays in enriching our local and global communities. Each year, in conjunction with the celebration of National Philanthropy Day, the SC Lowcountry Chapter of AFP recognizes outstanding achievements by local individuals, foundation and corporate philanthropists. These individuals and organizations form a vital partnership with nonprofit organizations to ensure that the needs of its citizens are being met. These awards recognize individuals and organizations whose life-long or long-term achievements have had a significant impact in the Lowcountry. This year s National Philanthropy luncheon will be held on Thursday, November 16. Guidelines: 1. Nominations for any award must be submitted by a SC Lowcountry AFP member. 2. The deadline for nominations is 6:00 PM, EST, Monday, July All nominations should be submitted electronically, using the corresponding form, and following the instructions, to 4. Nominations MUST address all of the criteria and include at least two letters of support. Letters of support do not need to be submitted by a SC Lowcountry AFP Chapter Member. The Awards Committee places heavy emphasis on letters of support from a diverse range of nonprofit representatives. We encourage multiple organizations/members to work collaboratively on nominations 5. Prior nominations may be resubmitted. 6. Supplemental video submission is also encouraged. 7. Winners will be selected by the 2017 S.C. Lowcountry AFP National Philanthropy Day Awards Committee based on the nomination packets submitted. 8. The Awards Committee will exercise discretion in awarding any or none of the below awards listed. PHILANTHROPIST OF THE YEAR This award is presented to an individual, couple, or family with a record of generosity who, through exemplary leadership in the philanthropic community, has demonstrated civic and charitable responsibility and whose generosity encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles. In making its decision, the Awards Committee considers: Evidence of direct and varied gift support. Evidence of encouraging and motivating others to take leadership roles in philanthropy.

2 BUSINESS PHILANTHROPIST OF THE YEAR This award is presented to a business or corporation of any size, that has demonstrated outstanding commitment through financial support and encouragement which motivates others to take leadership roles toward philanthropic and community involvement. In making its decision, the Awards Committee considers: Evidence of direct financial support of community projects and nonprofit organizations over recent years. Evidence of encouraging and motivating other business leaders and/or employees to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement. ORGANIZATION/FOUNDATION PHILANTHROPIST OF THE YEAR This award honors a community organization or foundation that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support and encouragement, as well as motivating others to take leadership roles in philanthropy and community involvement. In making its decision, the Awards Committee considers: Evidence of philanthropic support of innovative approaches to solving problems in the community. Description of impact of gift support and achievements accomplished through the efforts of the community organization or foundation, please include specific financial information. Please include the most recent audited financials. Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement. FUTURE PHILANTHROPIST AWARD This award recognizes service by an individual or a group of youth age who demonstrate outstanding commitment to the community through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering and leadership in philanthropy. Nominees will be judged based on work done while they were years old. Nominations will be considered based on responses to the following criteria: Detailed description of what the nominee did, including goals, process, budget (if relevant) and other people involved in the process (adult leaders or adviser, etc.) and of the time, talent and/or treasure the youth gave for the common good and the results that were achieved. Description of nominee s impact on the community, including numbers of people involved, financial impact, organization(s) helped, etc. Please include the names and contact information of individuals at the organization(s) who benefitted from the nominee s work. Long term (3-5 years) impact of the nominee s work. Will the project(s) be ongoing and has the nominee considered next steps or is working on other projects? Evidence that the project(s) can serve as a prototype for others or is easily replicable in other communities.
