Department of European Policies (DEP) - impact of support mechanism of the EU Common Agricultural Policy on the agricultural land market in Slovakia, - support of producer groups (cooperatives),
3 - impact of innovative projects supported by EFRDP on the competitiveness of selected agricultural subjects, - EU policy in area of business support of small and medium-sized enterprises and innovation policy, - development of economic and social disparities between the EU countries and regions. Department of Ecology (DE) - research on ecosystems and their functions, - management and sustainable usage of ecosystems, their protection and revitalization in Slovak regions, - quantitative and qualitative characteristics of biomass plants for energy purposes, - analysis of the impact of climate change on different agricultural production, - changes in concentrations of greenhouse gases active in the agriculture sector and the proposal for possible adaptation measures. Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) - optimal land use in relation with the sustainable agriculture and evaluation of indicators for sustainable development of agricultural land, - assessment of production capacity of fast-growing tree species of Salix and Populus, and fast-growing energy plant Miscanthus sinensis in drier conditions in south-western Slovakia, - sustainable usage of threatened habitats in intensively used agricultural land (marshes, wetlands, etc.) Involvement in the international networks Faculty was in 2012 involved in 4 international networks. Partners in the framework of these networks were European universities and research departments. The Faculty has been involved in these networks: 1. SAMBA trials network Department of Sustainable Development is involved in the international research program SAMBA trials, focused on the verification of production potential of 43 new breeding clones of fast-growing tree species of Salix and Populus. Partners of the project are: - Swedish University of Agricultural Science in Uppsala, - Lantmännen Agroenergii AB (Sweden), - University of Sussex (Great Britain), - University degli Studi di Foggia (Italy), - SUA Nitra (Department of Sustainable Development), - Research Institute for energy plants in Cavallermaggiore (Italy), - Research Institute in Bracanca (Portugal), - Research and Breeding Institute for Ornamental and Energetic Trees Silvanus, Kapuvár (Hungary). 2. Network within the project COST ( ) Department of Sustainable Development is involved in the network within the project COST Protection and usage of halophytes. The project is solved within the network of 54 European and extra-european centres (Great Britain, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Israel, Tunisia, Pakistan, etc.). The aim of the project is collection of existing knowledge about the functions and use of halophytes from genes to ecosystems - regarding to the protection and
4 management of salinas habitats and to the agricultural production. The output of the project will be also the formulation of challenges for future research at the European level. 3. Support for farmers cooperatives ( ) Department of Law nad Department of European Studies were involved in the tender of the European Commission Support for farmers cooperatives. The aim of the tender was the review of economic, social and institucional determinants which affect the efficiency of the cooperatives with specific focus on producer groups. The partners of the project were: - Landbouw Economisch Instituut - Wageningen University (The Netherlands), - Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany), - SUA Nitra (Department of Law and Department of European Policies), - partner organizations from all the countries of EU-27 The outputs of the project were presented to the European Commission and will be used in the planning of support system for producer groups in the reform of the Common Agricultural Policy in the programming period Network within the project of 7 th Framework Program (Star Agroenergy ) Department of Sustainable Development is involved in the network created within the project of 7th Framework Program., which has the aim to strengthen research capacity within renewable energy sources by creating a Center for the field of agroenergy. The partners of the project are: - Univeristy of Foggia (Italy), - National Technical University of Athens (Greece), - Stockholm Environment Institute (Sweden), - University of Cordoba (Spain), - SUA Nitra (Department of Sustainable Development), - University of Zaragoza (Spain) - Wageningen University (The Netherlands). STRUCTURE OF THE SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH PROJECTS AT THE FESRD AND MAIN ACHIEVEMENTS Overview of the research projects realized at the FESRD according to categories
5 There were 30 projects realized at the Faculty of European Studies and Regional Development in Structure of the projects is as follows: research projects 9 in the frame of International cooperation 3 educational projects 20 in the frame of International cooperation 20 practice requirements 1 Most of the projects can be characterized as a basic research. The departments were involved in research projects SGA in 2012 (Table 2), 5 departments coordinated 5 SGA projects. There was no individually implemented SGA project at the Department of Sustainable Development in On the other hand many members of this Department are involved in the research SRDA. Projects of the applied research and projects of social order had smaller representation in the structure of research. Project of social order is realized at the Department of Regional and Rural Development. The ratio in this field is 0, 83 projects on 1 creative employee and 0,28 research projects on 1 creative employee.
