I hope that having a written plan will allow you to be better informed about the many projects and activities that your Directors have included in their program for this year. Hopefully it will also encourage you to be more involved in club events through what is going to be a very busy 12 months for Hawthorn. And thirdly, I hope you will use it in your approach to potential new members. Who is the responsible DURBAN CRECHE Richard Groom Ngaire Cannon To upgrade the toilet facilities at the Imbaliyethu Creche outside Durban in South Africa. The current facilities have been judged by local authorities as inadequate, resulting in possible future sanctions if nothing is done. Fencing the creche area to ensure security of the area is a part of the project. The application prepared in could not be finalised before year end. It is antipated that the project will commence this year if all necessary approvals are forthcoming. Depending on the date when all necessary approvals are received RCH may be involved in the Rotary year. Project execution is expected to occupy not much more that one month but continuing sustainabilty and measurement work may extend beyond the next Rotary year end. However no more RCH funds will be required for this latter work. Will this Project continue MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH PROGRAM EAST TIMOR Gordon Cheyne Ian Macfarlane To support Maternal and Child Health in Timor: to reduce maternal and infant mortality by improving maternity services, and to reduce poverty by providing family planning New project. While District 9800 s Midwifery Vocational Training Team is applied to existing midwifery services, we hope to act at a grass-roots level Probably Alola Foundation, which already provides many services to women in Timor Leste. Possibly Rotary Action Group for Population Growth and Sustainable Development Proposed guest speaker: Jill Forsythe (RC Kew) ASAP, to stimulate club interest in the program, and to identify areas of need. To investigate possibility of having Alola Foundation s founder, Kirsty Sword Gusmao, as a speaker at 2013 District Conference A start up fund of $6,000 has been allocated to this project Club funds Gordon Cheyne

Who is the responsible BOROONDARA COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS LUNCH FOR THE SOCIALLY ISOLATED Noel Halford working with Foundation Boroondara Neil Roberts Ken McNamara All club members & key Foundation Boroondara personnel To provide an event for the socially isolated in the Boroondara municipality to celebrate Christmas and involve a range of community groups A new venue is being sought as the traditional location at the Hawthorn Town Hall is unavailable this year due to renovations Yes Foundation Boroondara and possibly the City of Boroondara Sunday December 23 rd noon to 4.00 p.m. (Not including preparation time) Approximately $3,000. The final costs will be available once the cost of hiring alternative venues has been determined. This is expected to be finalised by mid-august From RCH Community Service budget sponsorship Noel Halford and hopefully some

23 SECOND BITE Ian Macfarlane All members on the Second Bite roster Second Bite is run in conjunction with the Salvation Army. Volunteers from RCH and the Salvation Army collect surplus fresh food from the Camberwell market for transport to the Salvation Army Depot in Bowen Street. This food is used to provide the Thrice Weekly hot lunches for socially isolated people Nothing Yes, with the added possibility of contributing both financial support and volunteer help to providing the Thrice Weekly lunches in Boroondara Salvation Army Year round, every Saturday the Camberwell market is open Nil services are volunteered by RCH membership. However, we have been approached by the Salvation Army with a request for RCH financial support of $2,000, paid annually for the next three years, to enable the continuation of the Thrice Weekly lunches N/A Ian Macfarlane

26 RYLA - ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD David Owen New Generation committee RYLA is a week long residential program conducted annually, and aims to develop leadership, personal development and social skills of young adults. Most participants are aged between 18 and 25 years of age Nothing, involvement by RCH is essentially a funding sponsorship effort and review of aplications of students. RCH is required to drive the participant to / from camp at Mt Evelyn on the Sunday and Saturday. Reciprocal arrangements with other clubs can share this effort Yes, as a repeat program An internal Rotary program and Districtt driven RYLA camp runs this year from Sunday 2 nd December to Saturday 8 th December Week long program costs $720 per student Club funds David Owen

27 RYPEN - ROTARY YOUTH PROGRAM OF ENRICHMENT David Owen New Generation committee The RYPEN weekend camp aims to develop the potential of average students in Years 10 and 11 through a mix of lectures and adventure based learning. Conducted twice annually it aims to develop leadership, personal attributes and social skills of young adults Nothing, involvement by RCH is essentially a funding sponsorship effort and review etc of student applications. RCH obligation apart from financial support is to ferry individual(s) to / from camp at Lancefield (Camp Weekaway) on the Friday and Sunday. Reciprocal arrangements with other clubs can share this effort Yes, but as a repeat program An internal Rotary program and Districtt driven The two dates for RYPEN are: October 26 th to 28 th March 22 nd to 24th Weekend program costs $286 Club funds David Owen

28 Such as Start, Event with description, and Finish MUNA MODEL UNITED NATIONS ASSEMBLY David Owen New Generation committee MUNA, a weekend residential program conducted annually at Camp Getaway (near Bendigo), aims to develop understanding of international affairs and enhance debating skills for year 11 students. The Assembly is about building bridges of goodwill for world peace and understanding. A 2-person team represents a given country, and addresses and debates up to 30 resolutions in a model UN forum RCH is not hosting the program this year, so our involvement is essentially to fund sponsorship and provide mentoring to two selected students Yes, as a repeat program An internal Rotary program and Districtt driven MUNA camp is usually held in early June, dates for this year are yet to be advised Weekend costs $600 to District plus $50 allowance to students to make up relevant costume Club funds David Owen

29 NATIONAL YOUTH SCIENCE FORUM David Owen New Generation committee The NYSF is a highly prestigious scientific forum run in Canberra every January. A 12-day live-in event at the ANU sees Rotary involved as the selection filter by which year 11 students with strong skills and interest in science, engineering and technology can seek to attend. It covers a series of lectures and laboratory experiences conducted by some of Australia s most elite scientific community, and aims to encourage and develop future generations of top Australian scientists and engineers Nothing, involvement by RCH is essentially a funding sponsorship effort and review of student applications. We may provide local travel support from Melbourne Yes, as a repeat program District 9800 is granted a certain number of places only; about 25. It coordinates the selection process starting with its feeder clubs, of which RCH is one Two NYSC programs will be held in Canberra in 2013: January 17 th to 29 th January 21 st to February 2 nd The 12 day program costs $2,320 or part thereof, subject to agreement with student. 30 THE SCIENCE EXPERIENCE David Owen New Generation committee The Science Experience is a 2-3 day program held over the summer months for Year 9 students to encourage their interest in science. It is implemented by participating universities and rural tertiary institutionss RCH needs to alert Hawthorn Secondary College of event and possibilty for RCH to sponsor. 31 TASMANIAN YOUTH EXCHANGE David Owen Meredith Hayes and members willing to offer occasional hosting support during the week To facilitate a reciprocal week-long exchange for four secondary school students, between Hawthorn Secondary College and Campelltown High School in rural Tasmania. The incoming students are hosted by families from Hawthorn Secondary College. RCH provides transport and supervision of activities and excursions outside the school component of the visit Nothing, just a new batch of students Yes Hawthorn Secondary College Campbelltown High School The exchange program occurs in October 2012, the dates are yet to be confirmed $2,095 has been allocated to cover the airfares, entertainment and out-of-pocket expenses such as meals and travel Charity account David Owen

Prepared by: POLICE LEADERSHIP MENTORING PROGRAM Ian Stoney Chris Hanson This program continues to provide mentoring services and support to senior officers in the Victorian Police Force. The program, run by the Central Melbourne-Sunrisfollowing objectives: Club, has the Increase police leaders understanding of the business and service volunteer environment within the Victorian community Help them gain insights and understanding of different organisational approaches to leadership and service Give police leaders the opportunity to explore, probe and analyse, with their mentors, different management styles, high level communications, and to participate in community programs for the disadvantaged Help them gain insight into and build a personal support network with the business community and an influential volunteer organisation such as Rotary International Nothing has been running for 5 years Yes Twenty (20) Rotary clubs in District 9800 On-going program No funds required Ian Stoney

35 3 A new project are estimated or major event, currently being defined, therefore the costs but uncertain RON CARR INNOVATION AWARDS Ian Stoney Michael Petit To reactivate the Ron Carr Award and establish it as a highly desirable recognition of creative and innovative product and/or service development in the wider Eastern Melbourne area/district No award presented in However it will be different from previous years when it was awarded in that it will cover a wider area (not just Boroondara), will have a significantly higher value ($5,000+) and have more stringent entry standards If successful, yes City of Boroondara and possibly other councils Swinburne University of Technology (Departments of Innovation and PR/Marketing, etc.) Planning has commenced, presentationn of awards is proposed for late May / early June 2013 Funds of $3,000 have been allocated to this project Club funds Significant sponsorship is expected Ian Stoney

36 3 A new project are estimated or major event, currently being defined, therefore the costs but uncertain CAREER COUNSELLING and VOCATIONAL MENTORING for SCHOOL LEAVERS and those in the WORKFORCE Ian Stoney Geoff Wright To develop a Counselling / Mentoring program to both complement career advisory capability already existing in schools and to provide mentoring capability for both young and older people in their career development and / or at important crossroads in their careers New project Very much so, if successful. However I would expect this program to take a number of years to evolve and it will tap into the vast vocational experince of our Club members Schools in the Boroondara area, District Chair of Vocational Committee and Yarra AG, local Centrelink office, City of Boroondara, Swinburne University of Technology, etc. Planning has commenced Start up funds of $2,000 have been allocated may not be required in full this year Club funds Possible sponsorship Ian Stoney

Who is the responsible CAMCARE GALA CONCERT Noel Halford Tony Charlton, Geoff Dumayne and committees (Camcare and RCH) RCH has traditionally supported the Camcare Concert with an objective of raising funds for Camcare. This year 25% of net profit will be directed to Club funds More commitment by Camcare to sell tickets. A committee will be formed to promote the sale of 400 tickets Subject to RCH support and funds raised Camcare and possible sponsors. Tony Charlton will seek artists who are without a fee Sunday October 28 th at a venue to be confirmed Actual expenses outside sponsorship will be approximately $2,000 Ticket sales and sponsorship Noel Halford prepared to perform

Who is the responsible CHRISTMAS HAM AND WINE SALESS Philip Stewart Murray Elrington, Richard Logan, David Rosback and all Club members To source and sell quality hams, cakes, chocolates and wine for Christmas To raise funds for RCH Nothing Yes, definitely Ridders, Red Dog and other suppilers Marketing commences September - October, distribution happens the week before Christmas Not relevant. This is the largest fundraiser activity of the RCH N/A Ngaire Cannon for Phil Stewart

41 9. What is the estimated profit for RCH? CHRISTMAS DINNER AND AUCTION John Christoffelsz Fellowship / Fundraising Committee To celebrate Christmas fellowship while raising money for RCH Using same format as in , dinner with silent auction of smaller priced goods, loud auction of higher value items Yes, if format is successful and event is supported by membership Members will be accessing local businesses, eg Bunnings, for suitable auction items Thursday December 13 th 2012 Venue: Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club $5,000 N /A Ngaire Cannon

42 ROTARY AUSSIEFOOTYTIPS Noel Halford Robert Ball and Chris Hanson To engage the Club and community in the RCH footy tipping competition To involve Club members in a common activity To ultimately raise significant funds for RCH supported charities Now the basic infrastructure has been introduced, a well planned publicity campaign and promotion will commence at the completion of the current season. A major focus will be to obtain a national sponsor to cover the prizes. More general Rotary support will be sought This will depend on the success of AussieFootyTips in A review will be conducted to determinee if the project will continue Current partners are footytips.com.au (technology provider) and 3 charities (ROMAC, Australian Childhood Foundation & Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation) Key dates are the start of the AFL season (1 st round). The major effort will be 6 weeks before the start of the season The competition will be funded out of entry fees paid and sponsorships obtained. Prizes to be reviewed before the commencement of the 2013 season Entry fees and sponsorship. In the event of a project shortfall - Club funds Robert Ball
