The Family of Rotary has become a valuable asset since former RI President Jonathan Majiyabe, launched the concept. Numerous club and District 9800 events continue to emphasise this sense of belonging. Please offer the hand of friendship to each Rotarian and their family members especially during The Family of Rotary Month - December. Why not include members and families of former participants in your club s Service Projects? For instance, involve your past RYLA, RYPEN, Youth Exchange, MUNA, Rotaract, Interact, Science School, Storm the Stage, Youth Yacht Squad, Lord Somers and Powerhouse, Ambassadorial Scholars, GSE etc delegates in your club activities and keep them informed as a courtesy via your club bulletin and personal contacts. Remember all people connected with Rotary are classified as part of our extended Family of Rotary. They could be prospective members of our Rotary clubs and may appreciate being asked to attend a Rotary club meeting and invited to reconnect again with your club. from the New Generations Team 1

10 ROTARACT Grant Godino, District 9800 Rotaract Representative (DRR) is pictured at Training Seminars for District Rotaract Leadership in Sydney About Rotaract Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they re sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true "partners in service" and key members of the family of Rotary. As one of Rotary s most significant and fastestgrowing service programs, with more than 8,200 clubs in about 170 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon. How does it work? All Rotaract efforts begin at the local, grassroots level, with members addressing their communities physical and social needs while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service. What are some other opportunires available to Rotaractors? Rotaractors may also: Work together with Interact clubs or mentor Interactors Participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Become Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars or Group Study Exchange team members Seek membership in their local Rotary club after their Rotaract membership ends. Rotaractors are encouraged to keep their club's contact information current. 10
11 PROFILE Luciana Orr Guest & Conference Co ordinator, InternaRonal House, Parkville I have been at IH since Jan 2009 and moved here with my husband from Christchurch, NZ. In my role as Guest and Conference Coordinator, I book meetings in our 8x conferencing room and 6x tutorial rooms for both corporate and community groups. We provide venues for around 32x difference Rotary committees and host a few of the larger Rotary Functions each year. During the July and Christmas Holiday breaks we facilitate a variety of conference groups, some of which are residential in our 200+ student room. These include year 12 school camps, summer study abroad groups such as UC Davis, California, IB study groups, University faculty conferences and independent organisations such as the AU Red Cross. Luciana is pictured in front of one of the historic buildings of International House. Luciana provides valuable assistance and support to the New Generations committee. We have 11x apartments which are available for rent during the academic year, and 30x during the non-academic year which I manage. These are utilised by visiting scholars and their families and other independent guests. We have a Visiting Scholars Programme which gives residential visitors an opportunity to speak with our students on their field of expertise. This is often through informal coffee and cake sessions. In my role I advise our Head of College of guests who may be suitable for these invitations. I coordinate with both housekeeping and catering to ensure everything is in place for the functions, meetings and visitors stays. International House offers Rotary members, meeting spaces for under 25x people free of charge. Conditions apply. Please feel free to call me to enquire. In NZ I worked in hospitality for a few years and put on a number of functions for the arts. I was self employed for 15 years as an illustrator of heritage architecture and published a book in 2006, "Christchurch Heritage Architecture Illustrated". This was designed as a copy friendly public resource to encourage awareness of heritage architecture. I was fortunate to be the "Artist in Residence" at the Christchurch Arts Centre in NZ in 2003, after which I travelled overseas for a year to Europe and South East Asia. I also tutored art privately to primary and secondary school aged kids for 7.5 years. I have a great passion for educating people through positive mentoring and encouraging creative expression. Environmental sustainability and global peace are very important to me and I hope to travel overseas again at some point and get involved in a few projects in which I could contribute personally toward these values. 11
