4 PROGRAM TRACKS ENTERPRISE & SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT (ESD) This track will focus on intensifying knowledge about the process of working with certain suppliers on a one-toone basis to improve their performance for the benefit of the buying organisation, leading to improvements in the total added value from the supplier in question in terms of B-BBEE rating, product or service offering, business processes and performance, improvements in lead times and delivery. SMALL BUSINESS INCUBATION Business incubation has been identified as a powerful tool to support and sustain small businesses and boost the economy. The track will focus on incubation funding models, national and international best practices as well as the role of academic institutions, corporates, and funders within the incubation space of South Africa and Africa. YOUTH, WOMEN & SMMES Corporate policies and practices that enhance the competitiveness of the company while simultaneously advancing social and economic conditions in the communities in which it sells and operates FUNDING (FINANCIAL & NON-FINANCIAL SUPPORT) There is a hive of entrepreneurial activity in the middle to low end market segment. This is accompanied by a high failure rate of most start-ups in this market. This failure is attributed to access to funding, management and operations amongst other problems. This discussion will focus on how can we support entrepreneurial spirit looking at financial and non-financial support. ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT SUPPLIER DIVERSITY As a strategy for promoting economic growth and reducing poverty by building SMMEs this consists of monetary and non-monetary, recoverable and non-recoverable contributions actually initiated in favour of a beneficiary entity. The focus of the track will be on the best ways of implementing ED programmes which leads to economic growth and return on investment for corporates. As a proactive business process of sourcing products and services from previously under-used suppliers, this process helps to sustain and progressively transform a company s supply chain thus quantitatively reflecting the demographics of the community in which it operates by recording transactions with diverse suppliers. This process is not a simple and easy task this track will focus on the best practice and better ways of implementing supplier diversity strategies PRIVATE EQUITY, VENTURE CAPITAL AND SMMES Venture capital firms mostly invest in start-ups with high growth potential and private equity firms mostly buy 100% ownership of the companies in which they invest. These remain complex in South Africa as to how they can create and sustain SMMEs as mostly SMMEs fail to meet the growth requirements to get investment from these. The track will focus on a discussion around this subject matter. PROCUREMENT AND SUPPLY CHAIN As a key organisational process that involves buying the goods and services to enable an organisation to operate. There is a need for empowering suppliers within the value chain and this process should be crafted by supplier development or empowerment. LEGISLATION, COMPLIANCE BEE, TRANSFORMATION BBBEE is very much an integral part of our country s transformation and economic policy. It is aimed to promote inclusive growth. BEE is an ongoing exercise to encourage specific activity in a business. If transformation is not ongoing, businesses are likely struggle to maintain their BEE Score. This track will focus on strategies around this subject matter. INNOVATION AND TECHNOLOGY ENTERPRISES In this digital world, there is a need to assist SMMEs in the innovation and technology space. One of the core focuses should be around empowering SMMEs to use technology to improve the competitiveness of their businesses. There is also a need to empower SMMEs that are into innovation in energy, green industries and ICT.
