This makes Mental Health and Psychosocial Services (MHPSS) an indispensable aspect in humanitarian emergencies and disaster management. Although the field of MHPSS has developed considerably in the Philippines, it needs to be extensively enhanced in policies and programs in both national and local level. There continues to be a great need for sensitizing leaders, policy makers as well as humanitarian aid workers to the importance of the integrated approach and the heavy toll that climate change and disasters impose on the psychosocial wellbeing of the nation and its people. Purpose The two-day conference aims to bring together policy makers, government, NGOs and civil society, international agencies and organizations, scientists, academic and technical institutions, media, private sector, and MHPSS practitioners and other key players in the field with the aim of effectively mainstreaming MHPSS in the continuing dialogues on climate change adaptation (CCA) and disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) and ultimately arriving at a consensus exemplifying the importance of MHPSS in CCA and DRRM alongside other services.

2 Objectives 1. To provide a deeper understanding on the science and technology of disaster and its link to climate change in a tropical archipelago as the Philippines, 2. To demonstrate the compelling evidence and impacts of climate change in the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of the people; 3. To elucidate governance challenges and accomplishments at the national and local level; 4. To identify gaps and opportunities for integrating MHPSS in DRRM policies at all levels in the whole disaster management cycle (preparedness, response, recovery & mitigation); 5. To serve as a venue for sharing knowledge on varied ways of effectively integrating MHPSS in basic services by showcasing experiences, lessons learned and best practices in the field; 6. To build and strengthen strategic alliances and partnerships and promote collaboration and cooperation among stakeholders towards building & enhancing disaster resilience at all levels. 4 Call for Proposals To respond to the urgent call for holistic action, the conference also aims to promote local researches and MHPSS plans that illuminate and promote mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of the Filipino people in situations of humanitarian emergencies. Eligibility Category 1: Research Proposal 1. Research proposals on mental health and psychosocial support during adverse life events conducted between 2012 to present. 2. At least a graduate level research (Master or Doctorate level) Guidelines 1. Applicants should submit two copies of the abstract and full proposal (not more than 10 pages, single spaced) of their research proposals capturing the rationale and background, scope, objectives, research design, ethical considerations, and projected outcomes. Five (5) keywords should be included. 2. One copy of the abstract and full proposal should include the names of the authors, their work titles and affiliations. The second copy should be devoid of any author information for the blind review process. 3. Applicants are to send the abstract and full proposal along with their cover letter to the BKC Research Committee through the official address: research.11thhour@gmail.com 4. Applicants whose submissions have been accepted will be notified via Certificates of participation will be given to all accepted applicants. 6. All submissions will be subjected for blind review from which three winners for the best research proposal awards will be chosen. 7. Proposals not selected will be returned to proponents and will not be used for any purpose by the BKC without explicit consent from its proponent/s 8. The new deadline for submission is on March 10, Best Research Award 1. The three winners will orally present their proposal during the conference. They will be notified and asked to prepare a 15-minute presentation at the conference. 2. The papers will be judged based on the following criteria: Significance/Policy Implications 25% Relevance to the Theme 20% Novelty (Contributes to new knowledge) 15% Technical Superiority (methodology, ethical considerations, outcome measures) 30% Feasibility (human resource, logistical requirements, time frame) 10% 3. Applicants chosen for the awards will be notified not later than March Certificates and Plaque of recognition will be given to the three Best Research Proposal and will be submitted with the consent of its proponents for funding from partner donor organizations. 5. Implementation of the funded proposal shall be in partnership with its proponent and BKC.
