52 Weeks, 52 Feeding and Care Initiatives throughout Greece AB Vassilopoulos consistent to its commitments, implements a number of Corporate Responsibility programs, in order to face contemporary challenges and to strengthen its relationship with consumers and local communities. In this framework and in collaboration with the Non-Profit Organization Boroume, AB launched one of the largest campaigns of Corporate Responsibility, entitled 52 Weeks, 52 Feeding and Care Initiatives throughout Greece. The initiative begun in September and its target is to spread the message of participation and solidarity to each corner of the country. Main purpose of this initiative is to reinforce financially 52 Feeding initiatives in Greece, giving smiles and hope to people who are in need. The Non-Profit Organization Boroume is our ally in this effort. And we at AB Vassilopoulos invite our customers, friends and associates to become part of this chain: either by selecting the solidarity products with the special sign, either by donating food, during the week that the initiative arrives in their area, or by buying products of big and small suppliers who in return support AB s program by donating part of their revenues, deriving from the sales of selected products. Local Barley Sourcing Program for beer brewing In 2008, Athenian Brewery initiated the first local barley sourcing program for beer brewing in Greece, providing prospect for rural production, enhancing local economies and supporting thousands of Greek producers. Since its beginning, the program has been constantly growing, attracting an increasing number of producers and resulting to better crop performances every year. Today, the program includes 20 main locations across the country, cooperating producers and 23 cooperatives. In total, since 2008, barley tons have been purchased, 830 jobs have been created, whilst the added value that has been created exceeds 20 million euros. Greek barley from the above locations is turned into malt at Athenian Brewery s two malteries that are located at the breweries of Thessaloniki and Partas, and ends-up to the glasses of all consumers that enjoy Amstel, ALFA and VIOS 5 beers. Additionally, since 2010, Athenian Brewery has invested in pilot testing fields in cooperation with the Agricultural University of Athens in order to identify new, more efficient barley varieties that will increase the competitiveness of Greek barley and reinforce Greek economy. The company s ambition is to cover 100% of its barley needs from local sourcing within the next three years.
ATHENSPOTLIGHTED program The Athenspotlighted program is a significant AIA s initiative launched in November The program continued successfully throughout 2012 aiming to boost the attractiveness of the city of Athens as a city break destination for foreign visitors. The popularity of the city-card has been increased while the distribution reached almost the 100,000 cards. The enhanced cooperation with the airlines and the tourism authorities has further enriched program s attractiveness and penetration among foreign travelers visiting Athens. Economy: Knowledge... with Value The program Economy: Knowledge...with Value! takes place since 2004 in public and private primary schools in Attica region, powered by Citi s initiative and contribution, and in collaboration with Hellenic Children s Museum. The main goal of the three different school programs conducted - depending on the grade of the elementary school - is to introduce pupils to the basic financial terminology that affects their everyday life, so as to become educated citizens who understand the economic developments and can manage their financials in an efficient manner. Through inclass role playing, constructions and research, pupils realize how households, markets or even the economies of countries operate. Additionally, pupils learn to distinguish needs from desires, to develop critical thinking on how to manage their pocket money and to collaborate in order to come up with ideas to cope with poverty and unemployment at a country level. Overall, during the 9 years of the program more than 2,150 educational programs have taken place in which pupils and 580 Citi s volunteers have participated. At a global level, Citi will continue enhancing Financial Education for the next year according to the 10-year commitment of the Bank worldwide. Success is measured by more than just financial targets Since 2007, Diageo Hellas is implementing programs and actions, promoting responsible drinking and driving standards. Diageo Hellas offers constant support to the unique interactive and practical training center for road safety called AVENUE, of the Road Safety Institute Panos Milonas ( Diageo Hellas provides the website in Greek, a global informative platform about responsible drinking and also provides the application Ask Dave, a simple and friendly website that helps consumers to calculate the alcohol volume of every drink, its calories and the time that the human body needs to process it.
Energy for life Energy for life is travelling to the Aegean Islands of SIKINOS, SERIFOS, SKIATHOS, SKOPELOS, KASSOS, KARPATHOS, KASTELORIZO and brings knowledge to students and adults through a number of best environmental practices and initiatives. Specifically this program aims at enhancing the appreciation of local people regarding the importance of energy saving and appropriate utilization of natural resources. A number of NGOs, scientific groups, local authorities, and government agencies, who share common concerns for the environment, are working together to achieve the implementation of this program. HELLENIC PETROLEUM Group is sponsoring this initiative, and travels, along with Agoni Grammi Gonimi, even to the most remote Aegean islands to spread awareness and knowledge on such environmental and sustainability issues. Emergency Medical Assistance INTERAMERICAN recognizes the importance of increasing needs of citizens in health sector derived from the effects of the economic crisis. Considering all the above issues and the uncertainty caused by the developments in the Public Health System, INTERAMERICAN proceeded in incorporating EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE service to all offered health products. In order to benefit from such services as many as possible customers, the company reduced the cost of the service through a specially shaped "social" pricing policy for its customers and other special occasions. It should be also noted that very often INTERAMERICAN leverages its infrastructure in EMERGENCY MEDICAL ASSISTANCE (call center, fleet ambulances and staff) in order to meet and serve various social needs.
Programs focusing on actions we take today leading to a healthier future for families and communities Johnson & Johnson is present in Greece since 1972 with pharmaceutical products, medical devices and consumer products, being represented additionally from three different companies, Janssen-Cilag Pharmaceutical SACI, Johnson & Johnson Hellas SA and Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products Hellas SA. Historically all companies of Johnson & Johnson in Greece have implemented many corporate social responsibility programs focusing on patients, children, consumers and on the environment. In this difficult economic period for our country, we are implementing two very important initiatives, Hippocrates and "Food Aid and Promotion of Healthy Nutrition. The "Hippocrates" project is a mobile polyclinic providing Preventive Medicine to children and is organized by the NPO "The Smile of the Child". It enables free preventive examinations to 18,000 children who do not have easy access to appropriate monitoring and care. The exams provided are in the sections of pediatrics, cardiology, ear infection, ophthalmology and dental care and are enabled with telemedicine connection to specialized units. The project "Food Aid and Promotion of Healthy Nutrition", organized by the Institute of Preventive Medicine, Environmental and Occupational Health, Prolepsis, offers nutrition aid to students in public school, in socially vulnerable areas where the ongoing economic crisis has a big impact. Every student of the schools participating in the program receives a free daily healthy snack, designed specifically for nutritional needs. Prepare yourself for tomorrow vocational training program for people Free vocational training and certification to unemployed, employed or self-employed who wished to develop their skills or acquire specialized knowledge in order to improve their position in the employment market was offered by the program Prepare yourself for the future implemented by IVEPE and funded by Papastratos without any EU or public funding. The program begun in April and when completed people were trained, while applications exceeded The courses took place in IVEPE s certified facilities in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra and Volos and participants received certificate of competence.
Light Close to Everyone Around 30,000 people in the state of Queretaro (central Mexico) have no access to the public power grid. These families spend nearly 40% of their income in alternative energies such as wood, candles and batteries, and have low schooling level due to limited electricity accessibility. Siemens set up a team and managed through its donation and volunteerism to implement the Light Close to Everyone Project. Siemens Energy Sector covered the 230,000 Euros in material expenses and oversaw the installation of the solar systems. The project focused on supplying materials and installing solar panels for families located within these rural communities. Siemens also provided appropriate training elements of the solar panels to the community members and strengthened cooperation with the government of Queretaro. In total, 182 families benefited from the project. Graduate Forum The Graduate Forum was launched in 2002 by TITAN, on the occasion of its first centennial anniversary, its success led to its annual implementation. The objective of the forum is to achieve better connections and to catalyze constructive dialogue between graduate students and representatives from business & academic and communities in order to facilitate the development of young leaders, in line with state-of-the-art ideas and practices. The forum is a one day conference and is held twice a year in TITAN plants in the Attica (Kamari plant) and Thessaloniki (Nea Efkarpia plant) regions. Between 2002 and 2013 more than 3,000 students from programs of public and private institutions have attended 19 fora. Vodafone Greece Telemedicine Program Vodafone Greece exploits the potentials of its technology and enables people in remote areas of our country, to gain access to high quality specialised health services, without having to move from their home. The Vodafone Greece Telemedicine Program is implemented for an 8th consecutive year, in collaboration with the Athens Medical Center and it is under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Mercantile Marine. Those who will visit the remote medical centre, can carry out their medical examinations, for example an ECG or a spirometry, which are sent via the Vodafone Greece mobile communications network to specialised physicians at the Athens Medical Center. Medical specialists provide the necessary counselling opinion directly and quickly in the same way. The Telemedicine Program promotes preventive medicine, while covering patients with chronic diseases, as it enables systematic monitoring of their health status at their place of residence, by eliminating geographical or other restrictions.
Revitalizing the City Center An Athens Municipality Initiative The initiative aims at revitalizing main streets of Athens by cleaning and protecting all tagged surfaces, repairing broken masonry, pavement, street signs and street lighting conditions in order to revive the city center in a sustainable way. The project s goal is to establish a systematic mechanism and routine for a lasting impact in the city. Direct goals are to make Athens more attractive, to make its citizens feel safe, make quality of life in the city a priority, and inspire civic responsibility with thoughtful and imaginative participation. The Plus to Minus Program This antipoverty program created since 2012, a safety net for families and the homeless, providing them not only with relief but also with hope that they can regain their autonomy, through the operation of day centers for the homeless population and also though the support o families assisting on a monthly basis 550 impoverished Greek families with children, to support their return to a level of self sufficiency, dignity and functionality as per before the crisis. 7 Engaging Local Stakeholders Towards the Protection of Island Wetlands Wetlands are true oases of life, as there are areas of high biodiversity value, necessary stops for millions of migratory birds, indicators of adequacy and condition of the water in the islands, and, ultimately, a unique asset for sustainable development. In 2011, with the support of Coca-Cola system in Greece(Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon & Coca-Cola Hellas) within the environmental program Mission Water, WWF Greece established the volunteers network project in Crete expanding it at a later stage to Lesvos and Paros, all of which islands host wetlands of high conservation value. Volunteer Network is a successful mechanism to engage local community building capacity on wetlands value and using participatory mechanisms to highlight conservation examples with the aim of exert pressure to local authorities towards the protection of these valuable ecosystems (2013: 80 volunteers, acres of wetlands being monitored, cooperation with 30 bodies & 12 NGOs, participation of more than citizens in 30 events, 150 articles in media). Wetlands: A story for my island is the educational component of the program targeting to raise awareness about the values of wetland ecosystems to students in a form of student competition.
