2 DECA: THE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. DECA currently has over 200,000 members in Canada, the United States, and 6 other countries around the world. Through training, competitions, and conferences, DECA develops students real-life business skills, including preparing professional business plans and presenting case studies to industry experts. DECA competitions include Individual, Team, and Written Business Plan events in categories ranging Restaurant & Food Service Management to Financial Services. KC DECA AT A GLANCE The entire KC DECA chapter qualified for DECA Provincials last year 15 KC members qualified for ICDC (DECA Internationals) last year KC DECA had a team place 3 rd and multiple finalists at ICDC last year KC DECA has been the largest DECA chapter in Eastern Ontario for the past 9 years OUR MISSION: MAKE IT COUNT The Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute (KCVI) DECA chapter is located in Kingston, Ontario. This year, KC DECA will strive to make it count. Our members will be travelling to Whitby, Toronto, and Nashville for the regional, provincial and international competitions. Through various DECA competitions and events, our members will have the opportunity to demonstrate their leadership, management, networking, and communication skills. KC DECA has also partnered with Muscular Dystrophy Canada and will holding events to raise awareness and money for the cause. We will do all that we can to truly MAKE IT COUNT! 1

3 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR There is no other organization that can impact a student s life quite like DECA. DECA s impact lies in the unique opportunities it gives to high school students. It allows them to experience first-hand, the world of business. It gives them experiences and lessons that they won t be able to encounter anywhere else through conference, symposiums, and competition. These events give students the opportunity to develop skills such as public speaking, decision making, critical thinking, and analytical skills. These are skills in which all students can apply in their own lives, no matter where their lives take them. KC DECA has been an essential part of the KCVI community since its founding in We are the largest non-athletic club in the school and largest chapter in Eastern Ontario, boasting over 70 members. KC DECA has experienced tremendous success in the past, which last season being our best one yet, in which we had 15 members qualify for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC; DECA Internationals) in Orlando, Florida. We had one team place 3rd at ICDC, one top 10 finish, and multiple finalists - each team beating out over 200 other teams in their respective categories. All KC DECA members are driven individuals who work to better their knowledge and their communities. KC DECA strives to not only have its members succeed in competition, but also build bonds and experiences that members will remember for ages to come. However, chapter members are often faced with the challenge of financing their own way to compete, as competitions are paid for by each member and this can cost up to $2,000/ competitor. Therefore, many motivated students are unable to attend events and miss out on this amazing opportunity. Consequently, we would like to ask for your support. We are dedicated to fundraising throughout the year; however, your sponsorship of our DECA chapter (a registered charity) is critical for us being able to send the most number of eligible members to all three tiers of competition. With your generous donation, we would like to thank you with our multi-tiered sponsorship benefits as listed on page 5. 4 GOALS FOR THE SEASON This year, our goals centre on performance, fundraising, and community outreach. We are ambitious. CHAPTER PERFORMANCE Last year, we sent 15 members 8 competitive teams to ICDC in Orlando, Florida and brought back one third place trophy, one top 10 finish, and multiple finalists, along with 3 attendees to learn and implement new leadership ideas. It was KC DECA s best performance! This year, we aim to improve on this accomplishment by sending 20 members at least 10 competitive teams to the conference in Nashville, Tennessee and bringing back at least four Top 3 trophies and putting five teams on the Top 10 stage. FUNDRAISING In order to help all competitors reach their full potentials, we have set our chapter fundraising goal at $6,500. To reach such an aim, we will be dedicated in pursuing various fundraising events throughout the school year through bottle drives, bake sales, community sports and hobby tournaments. However, a large sum of the KC DECA fund will be dependent on the generous sponsorship of our community partners. A BIG DECA FAMILY One of our main goals is to create a large DECA family in the Kingston community. We would like to familiarize the community especially our sponsors with the club and its various community outreach events. As a sponsor, we would like to extend our welcome to you for all of said events as well as our training sessions, where we would be happy to learn more about the operations and stories about your own organization(s).
