The internship programs are for educational credit only; no compensation is paid. The creative services department's internship program is administered by SBG Chattanooga's creative services manager. On-Air Announcements: Sinclair Broadcast Group Chattanooga airs regularly scheduled announcements that encourage interested community organizations wishing to receive job vacancy information to contact the stations by telephone, in writing or via . These courses are: ) Business Ethics-What Employees eed to Know, and 2) Sexual Harassment- What Employees eed to Know. The purpose of this training is to increase awareness of SBG's policies and procedures and provide employee development. Scholarship: WTVC provides a link on its website to information regarding Sinclair Broadcast Group's Diversity Scholarship Fund. The Fund was established in 26 to provide financial support to college students interested in broadcasting, journalism and marketing. The Fund plans to award up to scholarships of up to $5, each per year for the next years to students from under-represented minority groups who need financial assistance to complete their education. Training: In keeping with its commitment to equal employment opportunity, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. and all of its stations, including SBG Chattanooga, provide mandatory training on various topics pertaining to equal employment opportunity, discrimination, and appropriate workplace behavior, including workplace harassment. ewly hired or promoted managers and supervisors are assigned a manager-level Preventing Sexual Harassment course and a Workplace Ethics for Supervisors course. The list of schools or organizations includes, but may not be limited to: Alcorn State, Emma Bowen Foundation, Foundation for Women, Howard University, Medgar Evers College, AACP, ational Hispanic Media Coalition, ational Organization for Women, Stillman College, Urban League of Chattanooga and Wider Opportunities for Women. Job Shadow: A senior in the Honors English class at Central High School in Chattanooga, T was able to job shadow one of SBG Chattanooga's morning news anchors for the day. The student planned to major in mass communications in college. She was able to observe newsroom operations and gain knowledge of broadcast careers. This experience was for class credit in the student's Media Writing II class. The student was able to observe newsroom operations and ask questions about broadcasting careers. Station Tour: A local home school group toured WTVC's facilities and learned about the various job available at a television station. The group consisted of 3 people, and it was lead by the station's creative services coordinator. A question and answer session followed the tour. The student observed all facets of the anchor's newsroom responsibilities and was given the opportunity to ask questions related to broadcast careers. Class Visit: SBG Chattanooga's senior meteorologist visited Boynton Elementary School in Boynton, GA as part of the school's career day. He spoke with students in grades K through 5 about meteorology, newscasting and television jobs in general. Station Tour: A group of approximately 29 young people from the Cleveland, T, YMCA's Y-Cap program and their chaperones were given the opportunity to tour WTVC's facilities and garner information about broadcast careers. The Y-Cap is an early intervention program for at-risk youth. They serve boys and girls ages -4. This tour was part of their Career Week. Station Tour: One of SBG Chattanooga's creative services assistants lead a tour for a group from the Chattanooga YMCA's Y-Cap program. The group consisted of approximately 8 students and chaperones. Following the tour, the group was able to observe a newscast and an episode of the station's daily community program from the news studio. One of WTVC's news anchors was on hand to answer questions about the broadcast industry. Station Tour: SBG Chattanooga's 2 production manager gave a one-on-one station tour to a student from Boyd Buchanan School in Chattanooga. The student's parent accompanied him. During the tour, the student was able to speak with one of WTVC's program hosts about the broadcast industry and how to prepare for a career in television. Job Shadow: A student who would be attending Clark-Atlanta University in the fall, majoring in Mass Media Arts, was given the opportunity to job shadow one of SBG Chattanooga's morning news anchors. During the process, the student observed newsroom activities and had the chance to ask questions about broadcast journalism careers. They met potential candidates and reviewed resumes and tapes for current and future job openings across the country. During the event, undergraduate and graduate students learned about specific career openings at the stations and what internship opportunities were available. Students also were able to ask questions about broadcast employment in general. Job Fair: A Sinclair Broadcast Group Chattanooga business manager and local sales manager attended the Meet the Firms career fair hosted by Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, T. They spoke with students and alumni about the internships, full-time and part-time employment opportunities at the stations, and answered questions about the broadcasting industry in general. Job Shadow: A Media Writing/TV Production student at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga requested that she be allowed to job shadow one of SBG Chattanooga's evening news producers. During the job shadow, she was able to observe what producing a newscast entails, and she was able to ask questions regarding broadcast news production. The group included 5 young people ages 8 to 2. Students were able to learn about how photography skills can translate to careers in broadcasting/journalism. Class Visit: Sinclair Broadcast Group Chattanooga's general manager was a guest lecturer for a Media Management & Leadership Class at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He addressed the future of the television industry at both the local and national level, and the future of TV programming, news and advertising. Following the lecture, students were given the opportunity to engage in a question and answer session. Job Shadow: A University of Tennessee at Chattanooga communications student who was interested in sports reporting job shadowed the station's sports director for a day. She was able to observe the sports and newsroom activities and ask questions pertaining to her field of interest. Job Fair: One of SBG Chattanooga's business managers attended the fall Career Flicker at Lee University in Cleveland, T. This annual career fair allows students and alumni to explore careers in various industries. Interested students also are able to learn more about the stations' current job openings and internship opportunities. During the job shadow, the visitor observed the producer's duties and asked questions about the career and how to best prepare for it. Station Tour: The station's creative services assistant hosted a tour of 8 students and their professor from a television production class at Chattanooga State Community College. As part of the tour, the group was given the opportunity to observe the production process involved in producing the station's noon newscast. Station Tour: SBG Chattanooga's Managing Editor/ews Anchor welcomed a group of 26 people from the Trousdale School in Cleveland, T. The group sang Christmas carols to the news staff before touring the station. Trousdale School is a special education facility that focuses on providing highfunctioning adults with academic & life skills training, along with vocational coaching with the goal of job placement for interested students. Station Tour: The station's Senior Meteorologist hosted a station tour for the Girl Scouts Brownie Troupe 448. The group consisted of 2 youngsters and chaperones.
