6 Six degrees of separation is the theory that any person on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries. The six degrees of separation theory was first proposed in 1929 by Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy and executed by Duquesne sports information director Ryan Gavatorta in 2016 using Dan Burt as a subject. Burt can be connected to every opposing head coach via players and coaches by as few two and as many as 13 intercessors.
