Seventy (70) Rotarians from seven Oahu Rotary Clubs participated as $3,500 was raised and spent on needed items, over 650 clothing items were collected, a fun luncheon put on for the 110 US Homeless

Sixteen of our members led by Mary Whitworth, Dave Talbert, Jane Brown, and others worked to put on this major project that benefited US Homeless VETS.

Our year long membership drive is still going on and I encourage you to bring a prospective new member to our meeting Monday. See you Monday, April 6th.

1 April 6, 2015 Vol. 32 Presidents Message Glen Bailey Aloha Honolulu Sunset Rotarians, I'm excited! Since our last meeting our club led a Rotary Days/Rotarians at Work project on Saturday March 28th at the homeless US VETS facility at Barbers Point. Seventy (70) Rotarians from seven Oahu Rotary Clubs participated as $3,500 was raised and spent on needed items, over 650 clothing items were collected, a fun luncheon put on for the 110 US Homeless VETS, and much needed upgrades to their facilities were completed. Sixteen of our members led by Mary Whitworth, Dave Talbert, Jane Brown, and others worked to put on this major project that benefited US Homeless VETS. Our guest speaker this week will be Rotary 5000 Assistant Governor "Clint Schroeder" who will give a presentation on his trip to India to participate in Polio Plus. Our April 6th Speaker Clint Schroeder District Governor Nominee Clint Schroeder joined his first Rotary club in June 2000.

After relocating to Hawaii in 2005, he joined Metropolitan Honolulu, and has served his current club in a multitude of ways.

Clint went on to serve the District as Assistant District Governor from 2013-2015. Clint was raised in Evanston, Wyoming.

2 Our April 6th Speaker Clint Schroeder District Governor Nominee Clint Schroeder joined his first Rotary club in June Being the youngest member of the Loveland- Thompson Valley club, Clint learned the importance of membership recruitment and retention quickly. After relocating to Hawaii in 2005, he joined Metropolitan Honolulu, and has served his current club in a multitude of ways. From community service to fundraising, Clint s passion for Rotary has never stopped growing. During the Rotary year, Clint was President of Metropolitan and D5000 Vocational Chair. Clint went on to serve the District as Assistant District Governor from Clint was raised in Evanston, Wyoming. Clint graduated from the University of Wyoming with a BA in Political Science and the New York Institute of Technology/Cardean University with an Executive MBA. Clint is a trained Six Sigma Black Belt, and holds SMEI s Certified Sales Executive (CSE) and Certified Marketing Executive (CME) distinctions. Clint Schroeder joined the Hagadone Corporation in early Prior to becoming President Hagadone, Clint served as Vice President of Sales/Advertising/Marketing for Gannett Co, Inc. at The Honolulu Advertiser, Hawaii s largest newspaper. Clint possesses almost 20 years of media, publishing, marketing, and commercial printing experience, as well as experience working in the Denver and Chicago metro markets. His experience with franchise protection, associate development, brand management, and market share improvement for his own company, and those of his clients, is expansive. Additionally, Clint is a recognized global procurement professional with global general business experience and intense experience/emphasis on China, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, Thailand, and Canada. Clint is called on regularly to provide Master s-level training/instruction/certification in the US, Vietnam and China. In addition to his extensive experience with Rotary, Clint is heavily involved in giving back to the community of Hawaii and has garnered much local recognition, including being selected as one of the Pacific Business News 40 Under 40 Class of Clint s other recognitions include: The National Mental Health Alliance s Outstanding Business Leader 2013, The SMEI Distinguished Sales and Marketing Awards 2012, The Business Leadership Hawaii Community Spirit Award Winner 2011, Pacific Edge Magazine Finalist Business Executive of the Year 2010, Arbuckle Fellowship SMEI Academy of Achievement 2011, SMEI Chairman's Gold Award , SMEI Raymond Bill Award of Excellence 2011, Clint is a Major Donor, a Paul Harris Society Fellow, and a Sustaining Member. Clint s other board service is wide-ranging including Hawaii Theatre, Pacific Air Forces Civilian Advisory Council, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the American Heart Association.

3 ROTARY DAYS RECAP Here is a recap/final accounting report of our Rotary Days/Rotarians at Work/Homeless Shelter Project completed this weekend March 28, 2015 at the US VETS Facility. Your Rotary Club can get credit for participating in a Rotary Days Event, a Rotarians at Work Event, and supporting the Homeless. PROJECT LOCATION: US VETS Homeless VETS Facility at Kalaeloa Hawaii NUMBER OF US VETS SUPPORTED: Approximately 100 male and 10 female Vets ON SITE US VETS COORDINATOR: Ms. Luisanna Carrera ROTARIAN PROJECT COORDINATOR LEADS: Glen Bailey, Dave Talbert, Mary Whitworth, Jane Brown, Naomi Masuno, Rick Vilalobus, Allan Kamemoto, Jason Almcrantz, Dennis Miyashiro PROJECT FOCUS: To upgrade the US VETS housing facility day rooms, learning center, canteen, and clothing distribution room. To conduct a clothing drive open to the public and promote joining Rotary Clubs in Hawaii. To conduct a luncheon with the US VETS living at the facility. To hold a talent contest with participating VETS ROTARY COST FOR DONATED ITEMS AND FOOD : $ 3, (see attached breakdown of donated items) OTHER DONATED ITEMS: -- Computer system for tracking clothing items - Donated by Jim and Beth Hoban from Honolulu Sunset -- Bubbies Ice Cream - Donated by Win Schoneman from Honolulu Sunset CLOTHING ITEMS DONATED FROM THE PUBLIC DURING THE CLOTHING DRIVE AT THE BOWLING ALLEY: -- Men's Shirts Men's Pants Ladies Blouse's Ladies slacks and skirts TOTAL NUMBER OF CLOTHING ITEMS DONATED: 622 Items (NOTE: There were also a number of shoes, purses, and other clothing accessories that were donated) PARTICIPATING ROTARIAN MEMBERS FROM CENTRAL OAHU AND OTHER OAHU ROTARY CLUBS: -- Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunset Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunrise Rotary Club of Honolulu Metro Rotary Club of West Honolulu Rotary Club of Waianae Rotary E-Club of Hawaii - 3 TOTAL ROTARIANS THAT PARTICIPATED THE DAY OF THE EVENT: 70 ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTORS: -- Barbers Point Bowling Alley for hosting the Clothing Drive -- Senator Mike Gabbard for promoting the clothing drive on his web site to over 4000 people -- Steve Mazur for donating his video camera to document the event -- US VETS QUAD leaders that gave us ideas in the planning and were on site the day of the event. HIDDEN CONTRIBUTION: US VETS receives an additional $30 for each volunteer that puts in at least three hours of time at a project there. At our 70 volunteers times $30 they should receive an additional $ 2,100 they can use for US VETS Operations I personally would like to thank all who participated in this very successful event that helped up-grade the quality of life for the 110 male and female VETS living at the US VETS facility. Starting time was set to allow golfers to take the first flight of the day and arrive in Kona in time to make it out to the course. We have a great value with an $85 green fee (includes cart, practice balls and lunch). Rental clubs are available at $35. 8 "ROTARY CLUB OF HONOLULU SUNSET MATCHING/NON-MATCHING GRANTS /15 #1 Project Name: Jefferson School STEM Hydroponic Project Total Project Budget: $2,759 District Grant Funds Requested: NM $2,759 Project Narrative: Provide Hydroponic Plant Systems to all 17 classrooms at Jefferson Elementary School to promote a STEM study project for the children. Project is a combined Youth Services and Vocational initiative. #2 Project Name: Veterans Engaged in transition VET House Total Project Budget: $1,690 District Grant Funds Requested: Match $845 Project Narrative: Provide bedding and equipment to the VET House. This facility provides a halfway house option for homeless VETS in transition to self-sustainment. # 3 Project Name: Women in Need Assistance Project Total Project Budget: $1,745 District Grant Funds Requested: NM $1,745 Project Narrative: Assist Hawaii Women In Need halfway house homes on Oahu. Provided needed items to upgrade living conditions for the occupants and supplies for personal hygiene and activities. #4 Project Name: JABSOM H.O.M.E. Project Total Project Budget: $7,038 District Grant Funds Requested: Match $3,519 Project Narrative: Provide equipment and vaccines for the H.O.M.E. Project Medical Van that services Oahu Homeless centers. The van staffed by a group of volunteers mostly from the John Burns School of Medicine. This outreach program brings the medical van to homeless areas on Oahu. NOTE: Continuation/upgrade of the project our club started last year. #5 Project Name: Philippine Relief Total Project Budget: $2,000 District Grant Funds Requested: Match $1,000 Project Narrative: Provide emergency relief funds to the Rotary Club of Atimonan, Philippines to be used to purchase galvanized iron roofing sheets required to assist the affected people in their town. Sheets will be giving to those who lost their roofs during the recent storm. #6 Project Name: Toilet Block for Mazzieri Primary School Total Project Budget: $4,300 District Grant Funds Requested: Match $ 2150 Project Narrative: Installation of toilet block at Mazzieri Primary School which is located on the outskirts of Luanshya, South Africa.
