1 RESUMES FOR KEY PERSONNEL DAVID W. SHORT, AIA MANAGING PRINCIPAL DESIGN RESOURCE PRINCIPAL David begins every new project with listening intently to the client s vision, program and objectives and only then does the design process begin to take shape. Since joining KSQ as a principal and president of the firm in 1993, he has worked on more than 45 campuses nationwide. David s primary role on these projects was as principal-in-charge, project designer and client interface. His work includes building types ranging from student housing, student centers and dining facilities to specialized buildings such as a studio art building, a conference and training facility for the deaf, and a wellness center. While directing the design of these projects, David was instrumental in developing a participatory design process that included interactive focus groups with the administration, the faculty, the maintenance staff, the facilities staff and students. This process became a standard for developing the solutions to be implemented on all projects by KSQ. Peers and user groups alike have recognized several projects on which David served as designer for design excellence, including the American Institute of Architects. His work has been published in journals such as Architectural Record, Student Housing Business, University Business, College Planning & Management, Learning by Design and American School and University as well as industry blogs, newspapers and journals. Under David s and his partners leadership, KSQ Design has grown to include six offices in Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, North Carolina and New York (White Plains and NYC.) David has presented programs related to the design of collegiate life spaces at conferences for the Society of College & University Planners (SCUP), Association of College and University Housing Officers (ACUHO), ACUHO/Living Learning Conference, and Association of College Honors Society. 2 JAMIE CALI, AIA, LEED AP BD+C ASSOCIATE PRINCIPAL PROJECT MANAGER PRIMARY CONTACT Jamie Cali offers a level of project management and design expertise few architects can match. Not only does he bring a high level of conceptual mastery to each project, he also is able to deftly manage projects and client relationships. With more than 35 years of experience, his portfolio spans educational facilities, healthcare, hospitality, museums, urban mixed use, residential and corporate spaces for a wide range of project sizes and budgets. Prior to joining KSQ, Jamie was a principal and design director at JCJ Architecture and worked as a studio director and senior designer at the international design firm Perkins Eastman. Never satisfied with the status quo, Jamie is continually learning and challenging his team within the firm to do the same. He gathers inspiration for his work from everything around him, including nature, art, music, literature, movies and other cultural touch points. Jamie possesses a sharpened ability to solve complex problems creatively while encouraging others to do so in a team-based environment. His role at KSQ typically encompasses serving as primary client contact, establishing and developing design direction and parameters, and maintaining consultant relationships in all project phases, from programming and concept all the way through construction. Clients across the country benefit from the knowledge, wisdom and leadership Jamie brings to their projects. 4 REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AT BOULDER Kittredge Complex The University of Colorado at Boulder selected KSQ Design, in association with Kiewit and 4240 Architecture, to design, renovate and construct two phases of residence hall development in the Kittredge Complex. Phase I of the project consisted of renovating the Kittredge West Residence Hall, an existing 71,797 SF facility with three wings of three to four-stories. The complete renovation and expansion accommodates a minimum of 273 beds plus numerous common and support spaces. Phase II consisted of de-constructing the Kittredge Commons facility and developing a new 97,117 SF Kittredge Central Residence Hall and Commons building. The new facility will accommodate a minimum of 264 beds plus a Community Commons in support of Residence Life and Residential Academic Programs throughout the Kittredge Complex. 5 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AT BOULDER Village Center Dining and Community Commons The Village Center at CU Boulder is a forward-looking multipurpose facility that provides far more than a new, contemporary dining venue on campus. With a large conferencing facility as well as student support services and study lounges, the Village Center serves both students on the Williams Village area of campus and the greater campus community much like a student union. Seating includes 700 indoor seats plus an additional 150 outdoor seating options. Highlights of the (slated to be) LEED Gold project include a grand staircase, tables and artwork by local artisans, blender bikes for smoothies and a hydroponic greenhouse providing fresh produce for the salad bar. 6 UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO AT COLORADO SPRINGS Village at Alpine Valley Village at Alpine Valley Featuring three residence halls named after Colorado Rivers, the Village at Alpine Valley offers UCCS students a first-year experience set in the heart of the Colorado Rockies. Suite style rooms are complimented with lounges that take in sweeping mountain views as well as classrooms for study time. Residence Life offices along with a laundry, mailroom, main lobby and front desk are located in the first level of one of the halls. Each corridor terminates with a glassy alcove that frames views of the Village. Featuring 515 beds in suite style arrangements, the LEED Gold project was completed in two phases August 2015 and Summer Roaring Fork Dining Hall Featuring sweeping views of Pikes Peak and nearby Pulpit Rock, the 36,000 SF, 400-seat Roaring Fork dining hall provides a wide rage of features on two levels. The marketplace-style servery offers six dining platforms, a C-store and catering kitchen and scratch bakery. Additional special features include a covered outdoor dining terrace and a multipurpose meeting room for events. 7 SPECIALIZING IN ARCHITECTURE THAT BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER The majority of KSQ projects are located on university campuses, and we understand the directive to comply with a university s strategic plan and the mandates that have evolved from those initiatives. We respect and adhere to the campus requirements and work to develop a design specific to the project program. These projects include advanced planning, campus master planning, renovations, additions and new construction all in compliance with the state reviewing agency s policies, procedures and review requirements. The following is a partial list of educational campuses experience that includes advanced planning, master planning, renovations and new construction: Baylor University Colorado Mesa University Colorado School of Mines Criswell College East Central University Fayetteville Technical Community College Gallaudet University Gillette College Guilford Technical Community College High Point University Institute of Technology Utica Rome Liberty University Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Metropolitan State University of Denver Missouri State University New Mexico State University North Carolina Central University North Carolina State University North Dakota State University Northeastern State University Oklahoma State University Oral Roberts University Rogers State University Rutgers Camden Sam Houston State University Skidmore College Southern Methodist University University at Albany; SUNY Stephen F.
