Staff members are encouraged to submit accolades that are worthy of the General s Star. Our staff and students strive for excellence on a daily basis. The comments listed below represent some of the recognition for our staff and students. STARS to Shuting (Sarah) Cai for earning All Eastern status. She had to be in the top 5% of all of the students that auditioned! STARS to Kayli Balin, Vaughn Parts, and Jessica Strassman for winning an award for committee excellence at this year's Princeton Model Congress. STARS to Jimmy Esbrandt and John Stevens for assisting with a project for AVID! STARS to the THS Jazz Ensemble. They performed at the SECU arena on the campus of Towson University for the inauguration of Baltimore County elected officials and the County Executive Kevin Kamanetz! STARS to Jeremy McCord for helping us to infuse some spirit into the hallways. STARS to Kamiya Davis for helping a friend. STARS to Ms. Milligan, Mr. Belt, and Ms. Valsing for all their efforts with the National Art Honors Celebration of Light event. Towson s on Twitter!!! Please follow
2 P A G E 2 FALS DANCE December is a great time of the year for the FALS/CALS program. Each year the Towson FALS program sponsors one of the most anticipated events for our Special High school students, the county wide Winter Ball for the FALS/CALS high school programs. Never get tired of doing little things for others. Sometimes those little things occupy This year, the dance is being held on December 10 th. This year s theme is Warm Hugs and Snowflakes. The dance is being held at the lodge at Oregon Ridge in Hunt Valley. Students from all over Baltimore County come for a fun filled dance that helps builds self esteem and social skills. Last year, over 250 students partied the day away with music provided by a professional DJ, Pizza from Season s Pizza the biggest parts of their hearts. -Unknown
3 P A G E 3 FALS DANCE Continued from page 2 and games. This year we are expecting almost 300 students from BCPS high schools and special schools. We are excited to announce that the Best Buddies sponsors will be accompanying the students to assist with the production and running of the dance. The Best Buddies program is a national program that matches special needs students with nondisabled peers. The Best Buddies program started at the end of last year and now includes over 30 Towson High students.

Jazz Ensemble The following Jazz Ensemble students performed at the Inauguration of the County Executive on Monday, December 1st at Towson University s SECU Arena. This year, the annual Towson High School blood drive will be held on February 25. The blood drive gives students the amazing opportunity to help someone who desperately needs aid. Every day, more than 41,000 blood donations are needed and someone is in need of blood every two seconds in the United States. And donating just one pint of blood can save up to three lives! The process of giving blood is completely safe and reliable. To learn more about how blood donations work, visit In order to donate, you must be healthy and at least seventeen-years-old. 5 P A G E 5 Student of the Month The THS Student Recognition Committee has started a Student of the Month campaign. Each month, teachers will nominate deserving students based on a particular character trait. September s character trait was responsibility. A council of teachers on the committee read the nominations and chose the winners! Winners will receive a THS t-shirt and a certificate. 1st Quarter Winner...Zachary Caplan Congratulations to Zachary and thank you to all the teachers for nominating deserving students. Zachary received nominations from Mrs. DiMino, Mr. Ridgely, Mr. Smith and Mrs. White. Wow!! Have You Heard the News???? Continued December s character trait is Respect For Others. Senior News SENIOR NIGHT LIVE! This is a fun evening in February where our Seniors showcase their talent! Share your talent today! FUNDRAISING. Congratulations to our fundraising top seller: Akira Smith. Akira sold over $800 in products for the senior class. Thank you to all of our other sellers as well; lots of free prom tickets were earned. CAP AND GOWNS. Art Department The National Art Honor s Society and the Art Department would like to extend a big thank you to artist, Amanda Burnham, who has been working with our students to create a community inspired drawing installation in the art hallway. Burnham, a design professor at Towson University has been working with area schools to create collaborative works using simple drawing techniques that are transformed through a larger than life scale and three dimensional use of space. Responding to the prompt, what are the components that make your community? students created a variety of drawings ranging from important local landmarks to the textures and topography in our everyday surroundings. We also included visual response to the Waverly and Baltimore community based on a NAHS sponsored field trip to the32nd street farmer s market. If you have a chance, be sure to check out our students work on the third floor!
