1 I~ Volume 21, Number -H December 1, 1970 REVIEW OF SABBATICAL LEAVE REQUESTS NEARS COMPLETION Dale W. Andrews (Academic Vice President) announced this week that the review process for sabbatical leaves is nearing completion. The announcement pointed out that an Academic Council committee and the Academic Senate Personnel Review Committee have been reviewing the 34 applications submitted, Dr. Andrews indicated that letters of notification will be sent to the sabbatical leave applicants on approximately Jan. 5. Vice President Andrews' announcement also indicated that it appears there will be fewer leaves available this year than during previous years. The state college budget request contains provisions for 1 leave for every 13.4 eligible faculty members. In the case of Cal Poly this amounts to leaves for 8 man-years, or a total of 16 years. The previous level, which was reduced by legislative action on the budget, was 1 leave for every 7.5 eligible faculty members. However, the Chancellor's Office has included a program restoration package for the budget, including a request for restoration of the sabbatical leave funds to the previous funding level. Because of the reduction in funding and considering the number of applicants, a priority list will be established ranking the candidates according to the merits of each case. Dr. Andrews said that actual budget provisions for sabbatical leaves will not be known until the legislature and the governor have acted upon the budget and that action on sabbatical leave applications at this time will have to be taken within that framework. ANNUAL SALE OF STUDENT ART, POTTERY OBJ ECTS WILL BE SATURDAY An hour-long preview-coffee hour will precede the eighth annual Student Pottery and Art Sale at Cal Poly Saturday (Dec. 5). The sale, featuring art work and clay crafts molded by Cal Poly students, will be held in EW-130. Access to the display area will be via the Architecture Patio. The coffee preview which annually christens the sale features free coffee served in ceramic mugs purchased by attending patrons. The preview will begin at 9 a.m. and enable visitors to casually browse before the sale commences at 10 a.m. Proceeds from the pottery and art sale are earmarked for a new potter's wheel plus materials for a new gas kiln for the Art Department. RECORDS OFFICE WILL BE OPEN MORNING OF DEC. 12 The college Records Office, Adm-222, will be open from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, on Dec. 12, to receive students' Fall Quarter grades from members of the faculty, according to an announcement issued by F.
