4 CHAMPIONSHIPS INFORMATION Championship Date/Time: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, (Practice Day: April 7) Field: Air Force, California, Oklahoma and Stanford Venue: Haas Pavilion 115 Haas Pavilion Berkeley, CA Coaches Meeting: The coaches and rules meeting will be held on Saturday, April 8 th at 9 a.m. in the Club Room located on the main concourse of Haas Pavilion. Judges Meeting: The judges shall meet at 1:00pm, Saturday, April 8 th in the Team Meeting Room next to the Club Room located on the main concourse of Haas Pavilion. This room is available to the judges for the duration of the event. Championship T-shirts: In the MPSF implemented a new program to provide championship T-shirts for all student-athletes participating in all MPSF championship events. APPENDIX D is an order form to be returned by Wednesday, March 15. Teams will be charged approximately $12.00 per shirt and will be invoiced after the championship. The shirts are performance quality black adult sized with the MPSF orange/blue shield logo and the inscription 2017 MPSF Men s Gymnastics Championships center chest. All teams must purchase championship T-shirts for student-athletes there is no opting out. T- shirts can be picked up at Friday practice or the coaches meeting on Saturday morning. The order may include student-athletes and coaches or gymnasts only. 4

7 ATHLETIC TRAINING SERVICES Dear Visiting Men s Gymnastics Athletic Trainer, On behalf of the Medicine Staff, I would like to welcome you and your team to Haas Pavilion for the MPSF Men s Gymnastics Championships. The following information should help you in preparation for your visit. The Athletic Training Room is located in Haas Pavilion, Room 185, across from the competition gym. The following modalities will be available to you prior to the meet in the Athletic Training Room: Ultrasound and Electrical Stimulation Stationary Bike Warm and Cold Whirlpool The following will be provided at the meet: Ice Water and Gatorade w/ cups Ice/Ice Bags Emergency Equipment (Spine Board, Vacuum Splints, Crutches) The following will be provided in the On Site Athletic Training Area: Hydrocollator Packs Treatment Table A Certified Athletic Trainer will be present at the event and will be available to assist you and your team should you need them. A physician will also be available on site during the meet should you and your team require their assistance. Should your team need to use the athletic training center or whirlpools, please notify us at least 24 hours prior to your arrival to set up a time for pre-meet and post-meet treatments. If a Certified Athletic Trainer will not be traveling with the team, please inform us prior to your arrival. 9 AWARDS Following the competition, awards will be presented to the top three finishers in the individual events and all-around competition. The championship team will receive a trophy. COACHES MEETING The coaches meeting will be held Saturday, April 8 th at 9 a.m. in the Club Room located on the main concourse of Haas Pavilion. This meeting is mandatory for all head coaches. CREDENTIALS Team credentials will be distributed at the coaches meeting on Saturday, April 8 th. Credentials are not transferable and must be used by the individual to whom they were originally issued. Media Credentials: Press and photo credentials will be assigned to working press according to NCAA established guidelines. Media credential request must be ed to Akilah Laster (akilah@berkeley.edu) no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31 st. DESIGNATED TEAM & OFFICIALS AREA Team participants must remain in their designated seating area during championship competition. Only competitors performing or preparing to perform (the next competitor) will be exempt. There will be a 0.8-point deduction on the team score for each violation, after an initial warning by the director of officials or a member of the meet committee. 9

NCAA policy now precludes any prior notification regarding drug testing. If an athlete is selected for drug testing, the athlete will be notified at the conclusion of their play that day. Refer to the NCAA Handbook for details. 10

11 HOSPITALITY A hospitality area consisting of fruit, snacks, water, and sports drinks will be available for coaches, judges and athletes in the northeast corner of the gym floor inside of Haas Pavilion. Hospitality will run throughout the course of the practice and competition rounds on Saturday. This meeting is mandatory for all judges. This room is secured and judges may leave their belongings if desired. LINE-UPS Head coaches must submit their lineups to Jeanette Morganti at the coaches meeting on April 8 th. Lineup changes must be turned in to Jeanette no later than 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 8 th. LOCKER ROOMS Locker rooms will be available to teams on the practice day and day of the meet. Locker rooms are located on the lower leave of Haas Pavilion. The athletic training room is located on the main concourse (one level up) of Haas Pavilion. 11

12 MEDIA INFORMATION Publicity and program materials for the Cal Athletic Communications Department The following should be sent to Akilah Laster by Monday, March 27 th : o 2017 Media Guide on line link o 2017 Post-Season Media Guide on line link o School Logo (4-Color in.jpg format) o Team Picture in.jpg format These materials should be ed to Akilah Laster at akilah@berkeley.edu. PARKING Team buses will be able to unload on the north side of Haas Pavilion on Frank Schlessinger Way and then Cal Event Staff personnel will direct them where to park. Parking for those in vans or cars will be on Frank Schlessinger Way. Coaches will be able to drop off student-athletes in the same, if they so desire. The appropriate parking passes will be provided to each team. All participants will enter through Gate 7 of Haas Pavilion, on the north side of the venue, nest to the loading dock. POST COMPETITION INTERVIEWS The interview area will be open after a 10-minute cooling off period. If a team or individual is participating in an awards ceremony, the cooling off period will begin immediately after the presentation. PRACTICE The facility will be available to all participants from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 7 th. The facility will also be available from 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 8 th. SQUAD SIZE Participating teams are limited to a maximum of 15 participants and five non-athletes, making an official travel party of 20 (per NCAA championships). Please submit your Official Travel party form (Appendix B) to Jeanette Morganti by 5 p.m. PT on Friday, March 31 st. Credentials will be distributed based on this form. 12

13 TEAM ROTATIONS At the 2015 coaches meeting, the coaches unanimously agreed that the MPSF championship starting team rotation shall be determined by each team s Road to the Nationals ranking (RQS) on the second Monday (March 27 th ) prior to the MPSF championship weekend, as this more closely reflects the NCAA championship format and allows teams to practice opening rotations more effectively. See warm-up information at bottom of page TICKET INFORMATION No complimentary admissions are permitted for the MPSF championship competition. Schools providing a pass list for guest will be charged for all tickets used. Pass lists should be submitted to the Cal Athletic Ticket Office by 5 p.m. PT on Thursday, April 6 th. Invoices will be sent to the teams following the conclusion of the MPSF championships. Starting March 1 st, tickets will be available online at in person at the Cal Athletic ticket office, or by phone at 800-GOBEARS. All seating is General Admission. Ticket Prices: Adult $10 Youth/Students (with ID) $5 For specific request and other needs please contact Josh Toyofuku or toyofuku@berkeley.edu. WARM-UPS Per MPSF Bylaw Warm-up Protocol - There shall be a controlled warm-up on the competitive floor prior to the Championship session. The warm-up will be conducted using the NCAA Championship format which is currently 12-minute rotations on each apparatus with oneminute of transition between rotations. In addition, in 2014 the coaches unanimously agreed to allow open warm-ups on apparatus for bye events during pre-meet controlled warm-up rotations. 13

21 APPENDIX D 2017 MPSF MEN S GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIP T-SHIRT ORDER FORM Each student-athlete on the travel squad shall be provided a MPSF Championship T-Shirt. Preorder Only! Teams will be invoiced after the championship. See explanation on page 5 of handbook. Orders may also include shirts for coaches. These are performance quality shirts and a bit more fitted than regular T-shirts, so please order accordingly. We will not be able to exchange shirts once ordered, so each team will get specifically what is ordered. Shirts will be approximately $12 each.
