2 TABLE OF CONTENTS WELCOME Welcome to the 2009 edition of the Connecticut high school football record book -- a compilation of records from newspapers, team statistics and coaches records. Documenting football records is an inexact science. Some teams take great care in recording yardage from film, others rely on the work of the sideline statistician. In either case, there is margin for error. However, the committee that has worked to compile this record book decided that minor inaccuracies in yardage should not prevent us from recognizing state standards in many statistical categories. Therefore, it is the hope of the committee that these records will over time take on some "official" status and be regarded as state records. The committee relies heavily on the responses received from individual schools. Errors of omission, while regrettable, are easily correctable. If anyone notices an omission or error, simply mail or corrections and updates to the committee at the address below. Questions and comments are also welcome. This is always a work in progress. This information was compiled to enhance the knowledge and love of the game. We are confident that the values of fair play and sportsmanship which have governed Connecticut football for well over 100 years will not be abandoned. Great players break records naturally, and the risk of injury, not the possibility of a record, should always determine the proper time to take a star player out of a lopsided game. We want to thank Tim Sullivan, a former Weaver High football assistant coach and Bob Barton, a former New Haven Register editor and columnist for starting this project. We re also grateful to the late John Ryan of North Haven, who researched and chronicled the first 65 years of Connecticut high school football and the late Bo Kolinsky of the Hartford Courant, whose research and attention to detail concerning scholastic achievements in the last 30 years of the 20th century were the foundation this record book was built upon.
