1 Sexual Assault Awareness Month Calendar of Events April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, otherwise known as SAAM. During this month, people across the United States raise awareness about sexual violence, how to prevent it, and how to support those who are affected by it. This year s theme is: Prevention is Possible. As part of SAAM, the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence and its member programs have partnered with local colleges and universities, businesses and organizations to host a variety of special events. Many events are free, but some require prior registration or tickets. The events our member programs are organizing or participating in have been compiled here. For more information on these events, you can contact the programs directly below. April 4 // 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Health and Wellness Fair Students, staff and community members are welcome to attend this conference on health and wellness. Resources for victims of sexual violence will be available at an information booth from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. 950 Main St, Hartford, CT April 5 // 11:00 am - 12:30 pm New Canaan High School students will learn about local resources and the Where Do You Stand? Campaign. Male students can take an official pledge to stand up and speak out against sexual violence. 11 Farm Road, New Canaan, CT April 5 // 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm SAAM Kick-Off Event in Hartford Advocates, victims and allies from across the state will come together for a special event at the Legislative Office Building. A press conference will be held at 1:30 pm. 300 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT April 5 // 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Student Week of Participation Students of Manchester Community College will be participating in various activities throughout the week. Victim advocates will be at a booth providing information on local resources and services. 60 Bidwell Street, Manchester, CT April 5 // 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm Out of the Shadows Dinner This event will honor victims and advocates for the exceptional work they do to improve their communities. A silent auction will follow the seated dinner. Tickets are $75 per person and proceeds benefit local sexual assault and domestic violence programs. 380 Farmwood Road, Waterbury, CT April 5 // 6:30 pm - 10:00 pm will march on the Central Connecticut State University campus to take back the night and speak out against sexual violence Stanley Street, New Britain, CT

3 April 6 // 9:30 am - 11:00 am Police Press Conference The New Canaan Police Department will hold a public press conference to talk about Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Victim advocates will be available to provide assistance and information about the local resources available to the public. 174 South Avenue, New Canaan, CT April 7 // 11:00 am - 12:30 pm SAAM Information Table Members of the UCONN Waterbury Campus community will learn about local resources and the. Victim advocates will be offering free nail-painting in shades of teal, in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. 99 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT April 6 // 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Step Up Against Sexual Assault Western Connecticut State University will display purple flags on its campus to represent the reported victims of sexual assault in the Connecticut State University System. Teal flags will display comments written by students and faculty. 181 White Street, Danbury, CT April 7 // 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm As part of the Teen Documentary Series, Hartford Public Library will be screening The Hunting Ground film followed by discussion with a guest speaker. This event is free and open to the public, but geared primarily toward high school students Albany Avenue, Hartford, CT April 6 // 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm Members of the Eastern Connecticut State University community will learn about local resources and the Where Do You Stand? Campaign. Male students can take an official pledge to stand up and speak out against sexual violence. 83 Windham Street, Willimantic, CT April 7 // 11:00 am - 12:30 pm Live Performance of No Witness In partnership with the Theatre Arts Department at Housatonic Community College, actors and audience members will explore the realities of acquaintance rape through an interactive mock trial. Admission to this performance is free. 900 Lafayette Boulevard, Bridgeport, CT April 7 // 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm will march on the University of Hartford campus to take back the night and speak out against sexual violence. 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT April 7 // 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm Coffeehouse Fundraiser This special event will have an open mic for members of the community to share their poetry, music, and other musings. Admission is $5 for students and $20 for everyone else. Proceeds will benefit local sexual assault and domestic violence programs. 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT

4 April 8 // 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm This documentary follows the real stories of college students who were the victims of sexual assault and the cover-up attempts by university officials. The film will be screened at Three Rivers Community College. Admission is free and open to the public. April 8 // 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm will march on the campus of Trinity College to take back the night and speak out against sexual violence. 300 Summit Street, Hartford, CT April 9 // 11:00 am - 3:00 pm Info Table and Donation Collection Patrons of New Morning Market can learn about local resources and the Where Do You Stand? Campaign. Shoppers are encouraged to donate toiletries which will benefit those living in local domestic violence shelters. 129 Main Street North, Woodbury, CT April 12 // 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm This documentary follows the real stories of college students who were the victims of sexual assault and the cover-up attempts by university officials. The film will be screened at Three Rivers Community College as an hour-long abridged version. Admission is free and open to the public. April 13 // 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Members of the Three Rivers Community College will learn about the Where Do You Stand? Campaign. Male students can take an official pledge to stand up and speak out against sexual violence. April 13 // 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm Open House in Meriden All are invited to learn about the local programs and resources at the Women & Families Center s Meriden office, while enjoying free snacks. 169 Colony Street, Meriden, CT April 11 // 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Screening of The Mask You Live In This documentary explores how boys and men struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating with society s narrow definition of masculinity. A discussion will follow the screening. The film will be presented at UCONN s Waterbury Campus. Following the march will be a panel discussion in the McGovern Lounge with representatives from agencies that work with victims of sexual violence and sex trafficking Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, CT April 13 // 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm Take Back the Night Events will march on the UCONN Storrs campus to take back the night and speak out against sexual violence. Pinwheels will be on display across the New Haven Green, each one representing survivors of sexual assault that were served by the Rape Crisis Center of Milford in the past year. 165 Church Street, New Haven, CT April 20 // 4:30 am - 6:30 pm Members of Naugatuck Valley Community College will learn about the Where Do You Stand? Campaign. Male students can take an official pledge to stand up and speak out against sexual violence. The film will be screened at Three Rivers Community College as an hour-long abridged version. Admission is free and open to the public.

7 April 20 // All Day Corazón Lastimado Art Project This creative workshop lets survivors of sexual violence tell their stories anonymously through art. The pieces will be displayed at various locations throughout the state. 872 Main Street, Willimantic, CT April 20 // Normal Library Hours Faces of Survival Exhibit Personal stories and photographs of sexual assault survivors will be on display at the Library of Northwestern Connecticut Community College. The exhibit will be displayed from April 20th to April 28th. 2 Park Place, Winsted, CT April 20 // 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm Screening of Very Young Girls This documentary provides a candid perspective of prostitution and sex slavery of young girls in New York City. Victim advocates will provide information and discussion after the screening. This event is free and open to the public. 753 Fairfield Ave, Bridgeport, CT April 21 // 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Candlelight Vigil for Victims The U.S. Submarine Base in Groton will hold a candlelight vigil at the Chapel on the Thames to honor victims of violence. 1 Crystal Lake Road, Groton, CT April 21 // 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm Silent March for Victims The U.S. Submarine Base in Groton will hold a silent march to honor victims of violence. 1 Crystal Lake Road, Groton, CT April 21 // 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm Zumba Class and Raffle Studio Z62 will be offering a special Zumba class with raffle prizes. Donations in any amount are required to participate. 203 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT April 21 // 6:00 am - 7:00 pm Candlelight Vigil for Victims Northwestern Connecticut Community College will hold a candlelight vigil at their Arts & Sciences Building to honor victims. 2 Park Place, Winsted, CT April 22 // 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm Sexual Assault Awareness Walk will march on the University of Bridgeport campus to raise awareness on sexual violence. The event will also feature guest speakers and victim advocates. 126 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, CT April 22 // All Day The Clothesline Project Exhibit T-shirts with graphic messages designed by survivors of sexual violence and their allies will be on display at the Monroe Town Hall. Many of the shirts will highlight women s strength to survive and thrive. This exhibit will also be displayed on April 23rd. 7 Fan Hill Road, Monroe, CT April 24 // 10:00 am - 11:30 am Kickboxing for a Cause The Dojo of Westport will be hosting a kickboxing fundraiser. 8 April 24 // 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm Walk a Mile in Her Shoes March This fundraising event at Milford Lisman Landing Marina is an opportunity for men to address sexual violence against women. People of all genders are encouraged to wear high heels during the march. Pizza and soda will be provided to participating teams. Prizes will be awarded to teams who raise the most money, wear the highest heels, and more. Registration is required. 37 Helwig Street, Milford, CT April 29 // 8:00 am - 10:00 am Annual Meeting and Breakfast Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence will bring together over 100 advocates, community partners, allies and lawmakers to take stock in their work to end sexual violence, and to honor individuals who make a difference in the lives of victims and survivors.
