1 OTIESA General Business Meeting November 18, 2016 Welcome: The meeting was called to order by Gary Robinson at 8:18 a.m. Pledge of Allegiance: Lynette Boggs led us in the Pledge of Allegiance Minutes: Due to technical issues prohibiting the sharing of Spring 2016 minutes with the membership, Laura Bowers proposed bringing forward Spring 2016 minutes at the next general business meeting. Gary moved to approve. All in favor. Treasurer s Report: Robin Long presented the Treasurer s report. Corrections/ discussion of the report Only thing expenditure was the set up charge of $50. Other activity was executive members paying for and purchasing polos. Low balance due to not yet receiving Spring funds from Ohio ACTE. Gary moved to approve. All in favor. Regional Reports: Region I (North Central) Region II (Northeast) Region III (Southeast) Region IV (South Central) Region V (Southwest) Region VI (Northwest) Corrections Lynette Boggs reported Michael Saville reported Julie Brinkman reported Mike Staten reported Craig Bales reported Rick Bachman reported Dwight Anstaett reported Region I Members Present : Lynette Boggs WCSCC. Program updates: Wayne County Schools Career Center New Programs, added a second year Business Entrepreneurship program, began a satellite Construction Tech program at Smithville High/Middle School campus. (Our first middle school endeavor.) Completed our new RAMTEC building we have hired instructors for our CNC/Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics/PLCs programs. They will begin next school year. We renovated our Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting, Construction Tech, Building and Grounds, and Precision Machining programs. We also just passed a.5 mil levy.
2 Region II Members Present : Ted Slankart, Jon Whipple, Robert Donish, Mike Saville, David Bruce OTIESA is merging with ACTE after tax issue, now called CTEP. Blessing in disguise for CTEP, as it can live off the structure of ACTE. Spring conference tentative dates: March 8, 9,10 New programs: Robert Donish: Trumbull Co CTC: HVAC and dental assisting, hard to get off the ground. Hard to get students interested, no videos ready yet. New equipment. Once it gets going, it should be fine. Mike Saville: Mahoning County CTC: RAMTEC and 9/10 STEM Academy; Robotics; engineering programs. Transitioning to academies next year. Ted Slankart: Maplewood CC: Interviews for staff, for sports medicine. Marketing in process to gain interest. Lab space allocated. Jon Whipple: Ashtabula County CTC: New middle school at satellite school. Coded under building maintenance. Credentials: SP2 in lieu of OSHA at TCTC; focus for automotive technology. Maple changing from ASE to ICar in collision; says it s more valuable to employers. All agree or find value in that ASE student certification is a great way to hit the masses and focus students toward the full ASE version (or ICar in collision). WebXam: Any interest in attending MCCTC on December 8th for the WebXam review session. Prepared for Success Indicators: Everyone did terrible on this indicator. Report cards should go out privately first for schools to be prepared. Hosting Regionals: Trumbull Co. CTC. Working on set up; student ambassadors, advisory committee. Region III Members Present: Julie Brinkman (BCC), Laura Bowers (C-TEC) New Constitution for CTEP Already discussed at executive meetings OhioACTE: We are in favor of this union. Great benefits for us Senior Only programs None at our buildings at this time Regional meetings To be held at C-TEC at a TBD date.
3 Region IV Members Present: Ralph Madden Scioto County Career Center Tim Updike Buckeye Hills Career Center Gary Robinson Pickaway Ross Career Center Michael Staton Collins Career Technical Center Discussion: Discussed the change from OTIESA to CTEP, and the transition to being under the ACTE umbrella discussing the pros, and cons. Reviewed changes made to what is now the CTEP Constitution and Bylaws Updates: Buckeye Hills: Is in the process of an upgrade to their internet service Scioto County: Is still developing their off campus RAMTEC Center Pickaway Ross: Is using Key Training used in ABLE centers to remediate incoming students to prepare students to take Work Keys testing; Implemented a senior only program that would allow seniors at home school who had acquired graduation requirements by second semester to come to the career center to earn industry credentials. Collins Career Technical Center: Waiting on completion of a new Adult Education building being constructed on the main campus to make room for new classrooms and labs for the STEM Academy; Developing their new RAMTEC Lab on the main campus. Region V Members Present: Blaine Heeter Miami Valley Craig Bales Ohio Hi-Point Russell Crosthwaite Great Oaks Ryan McCoart Green County Matt Wells ODE David Spears Great Oaks Chris Trentman Butler Tech Roger Voisard Upper Valley John Wiseman ODE Organization Constitution: Russell Crosthwaithe gave some of the new members a history of why this is good thing. No one presented any downside of adopting new constitution or affiliation with ACTE. Regional Competitions: Much discussion on off-site versus on-site competitions this year. Russell Crosthwaite gave the possible dates of welding competition at Hobart (Feb 18 th with a snow date of Feb 25 th ). Will need to check on 25h date with Sinclair for competitions there. Carpentry possibly moving to offsite at Ohio Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship training center in Monroe. Dave Spears suggested that we contact Joe Travis at Monroe to see if they are willing to coordinate contest. (Talk with Bryan Jackson who has coordinated the contest in past) Set date for regional coordinators meeting at Bellefontaine with ODE on Jan. 11 th Have Ohio Hi-point person coordinating regionals to send out spreadsheet of coordinators to this group to see if we have any holes.

Power of ICU Four County 2. School Safety 3. Report Card Clarification Prepared for Success 4. Graduation Requirements Changes 5. Credentials 6. Webxam Accommodations for the test Manual doesn t match what is allowed for the test What is happening at the schools? Apollo: The construction is done! They are relieved. They have also been doing well with a Lab Lock Out Program for students not getting work done. It is held on Fridays and rotates from week to week between juniors and seniors. The staff are encouraged to do fun events on those days. Apollo is also working on some great continuing professional development. They have introduced Schoolology and allowing staff members time during the day on a rotation to learn and use the Schoolology program. This is showing great success with the staff. EHOVE : Started a Sophomore Exploration STEM program and is going well. They are having challenges with student attendance and trying to come up with ways to combat this so students will be in school. Four County : The 1 mil levy passed in early November. This was for operations. The building trades is meeting with the Defiance County Home Builders Association. They are coming in for lunch and then touring the carpentry house. Continuing to try to get business people in to see the great things that we are doing. Trying something new by having our 8 th grade tours go out to the carpentry house. Excited to see how the students will like this. Penta : This year they are doing 5 days per week with student success program. Last year it was two days per week. This program is 30 minutes long where students can get some enrichment, peer tutoring, intervention, chess, power walking, and other leisure type classes. They have had great success with this program. Pioneer: Not present at the meeting. Toledo Public: Has started a 7 th and 8 th grade class held in 20 elementary schools. This course is 1 hour per week introducing the soft skills and employability skills to the students. They are using the Novice program to help with the career search.
6 Sentinel: They are adding a 1.5 million dollar, 10,000 square foot Public Safety Building to their campus. The plan is for the construction to be complete by July 1, They have had good results on the Work Keys tests. They have tested 120 students and 83% of the tested scored a 13. They are using Key Train to help prep for the test. The student has to get a 5 on the Key Train before they can take the Work Keys test. Vanguard : They are looking at senior only program options for their school. They are interested in looking at other options for industry credentialing for their students. Vantage: Next year they will be starting a Criminal Justice program. They also are the recipients of the RAMTEC money and the new equipment is coming in. The students are enjoying working on this new equipment. They also had for the first time an associate school for a Professional Development day bring their entire staff for tours to see what is happening at Vantage. The school staff was amazed at the great things happening at Vantage. Corrections Members Present: 17 Members We discussed the gradual change over from OTIESA to CTEP. All members were in agreement that the conference was heading into a new era and the new name fits. Next we discussed and agreed that OTIESA/CTEP could fall under the umbrella of Ohio ACTE. The group thought it was a smart move and that the finances would be covered. OCSS is working on several new career tech programs throughout the state which led to the discussion of the career tech teachers and their advisory committees. The group agreed that the members at the conference were excellent resources for our correctional teachers. Plus it was mentioned that our teachers should visit other career tech schools and participate in Skills USA. Gary moved to accept all regional minutes. Old Business: None New Business: Review/Discuss Constitution Revisions - update language and clarify officers -Gary moved to approve and motion passed CTEP to contract as an Affiliate of Ohio ACTE - they will take over this group s financial operations under their 5013C (non-profit status) -Gary moved to approve and motion passed Spring Conference dates - March 9,10 Adjournment: Gary adjourned the meeting at 8:41 am
