This course addresses sport as a cultural expression within the Black Culture. September August 1992: University of Iowa - Iowa City, Iowa Director: Afro-American Cultural Center Directed, taught and organized educational programs and classes about African and Black Cultural for junior high, high school, and college students. Managed daily operations involving staffing, budgeting, and other Center operations. Consulted and advised high school and college students about academic and social adjustment to the university campus. June August 1994: University of Iowa - Iowa City, Iowa Instructor: Sport, Health, Leisure and Physical Studies Instructed classes on sport and Black Culture. Course addressed the history of the Black athlete, theoretical explanations for Blacks predominance in sport, and the use of sport by Blacks as a cultural expression, a means of resistance and social mobility. 2
3 August June 1994: University of Iowa - Iowa City, Iowa Assistant Retention Coordinator: Men s Athletic Student Services Provided comprehensive assessments of at-risk student athletes in the areas of reading and writing. Worked closely with academic advisors in providing assistance these student athletes. Managed case-load of at-risk student athletes and monitored their progress to meet the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Big Ten Conference. Designed, developed and facilitated educational and social programs for student athletes to help their adjustment and success on campus. September May 1991: University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse, Wisconsin Supervisor and Instructor: Strength and Conditioning Center Supervised and trained student staff in the Strength Center. Instructed weight training classes and tours in the Strength Center. Designed weight training programs, trained, conditioned, and tested men and women intercollegiate athletes.
