RECRUITMET IITIATIVES 1 2 Date 6/6/216 6/6/216 Type of Recruitment Initiative (Menu Selection) Establishment of training programs for station personnel Establishment of an intern program designed to assist members of the community Brief Description Of Activity Hearst Television and WLWT awarded a Producing Fellowship to a Columbia University graduate. The candidate arrived at WLWT and participated in the 1-week paid fellowship program as a ews Producer beginning on June 6, 216 until August 29, 216. Upon successfully completing her fellowship she was offered and accepted employment as a full time ews Producer at another Hearst Television station in a larger market. The fellowship program provided training and development which prepared her for a higher producing level job versus an entry level producing job. WLWT offers a year round internship program for college students to expose them to the ever changing demands and challenges of a commercial broadcast operation. The unpaid internship program requires the student to receive academic credit and the duration is 8-1 weeks on a part time basis. Students participating during this reporting period were from University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati State, Indiana University and the University of Missouri. RECRUITMET IITIATIVES 3 4 Date 6/7/216 7//216 Type of Recruitment Initiative (Menu Selection) Participation in events or programs sponsored by educational institutions Participation in events or programs sponsored by educational institutions Brief Description Of Activity As part of our community outreach 5 WLWT gave a total of 1 tours of the WLWT broadcast facility during the period to groups present in the community interested in broadcasting employment issues and media. Each tour is given by an employee, mainly a Meteorologist, and includes viewing areas of ews, Production and Graphics. In each area employees discuss their jobs, educational background and duties performed. Each tour is attended by anywhere from 5-5 individuals and attendees vary from not for profit organizations, cub scouts, girl scouts and churches throughout the tri-state region. Tours conducted on 6/7/16 (Art Institute of Cincinnati), 6/9/16 (UC Clermont College -ETS), 9/3/16 (Calvary Christian School), 1/17/16 (Girl Scout Troop), /15/16 (Calvary Christian High School), 3/23/17 (Cincinnati Public Schools - Hughes STEM intersession), 3/23/17 (Girl Scout Troop), 3/3/17 (Kenton County High Schools Media Group), 5//17 (Cincinnati Public Schools Roberts Academy), 5/15/17 (Madeira High School). WLWT hosted a prospective intern/job 3 candidate from Calvary Christian High School for a half day. The candidate had a "hands-on" job shadow day in the ews Department including experiencing several live broadcasts in the television studio. The student wanted to shadow the morning meteorologist to learn more about the television business both in front and behind the camera. At the session, Hearst's Director of Veteran Recruiting providing training related to the hiring of US Armed Force Veteran's. Among the topics covered in the training session were: how to evaluate the past employment and duties of armed services personnel and the "transferability" or applicability of those skills and qualifications to a broadcast/news gathering/digital business; the process and pipeline for identifying, interviewing, and attracting qualified candidates from the Armed Services pool; ensuring nondiscrimination in the consideration of hiring veterans and periodic leave status; and common misconceptions about veteran employment. WLWT President & General Manager 1 serves on the advisory committee to the Electronic Media Department at University of Cincinnati. The purpose of the committee is to advise university faculty regarding the continual curriculum revisions to prepare students of 21st century media companies. RECRUITMET IITIATIVES 7 Date 5/1/217 Type of Recruitment Initiative (Menu Selection) Participation in scholarship programs Brief Description Of Activity The WLWT/Hearst Television Scholarship Award is granted annually to one student enrolled in the University of Cincinnati Electronic Media Program. This award is part of WLWT's continued commitment to grow a new generation of broadcasters and our commitment to create a diverse workplace. During this reporting period, one student received a $25 scholarship stipend and started at WLWT on 5/1/17 for a 1 week period during the summer. WLWT's President & General Manager maintains frequent communication with the Professor and Head of the Electronic Media Division via phone or meetings as to potential candidates for WLWT s scholarship program which runs in conjunction with UC's Electronic Media Scholarship Fund.
