We have some new faces in the Extension office, so please take a look here in the newsletter to get to know them. In June this year 54 Benton County 4-H youth will be attending one of the following, 4-H Camp, 4-H Round-up, State Junior Leader Conference, Purdue Science Workshops, or 4-H Band. We know that they will all have fun and represent us well. Remember all building projects, books, & record sheets will check-in Saturday, July 19th at the grounds. It will be here soon, so please be attending your club meetings for more information. You will need to have your books checked and record sheets signed by your club leader before project check-in or livestock check-in. NEW FACES AT THE BENTON COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE Macy Fawns is the new Agriculture and Natural Resources and 4-H Youth Development Educator.

Her main focus while in Benton County will be on 4-H during the next couple of summer months. After, she plans to get certified to re-certify farmers for personal pesticide applications.

Frances Garrett will be a junior at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods studying Equine Business Management and Equine Assisted Therapy. She is from Pine Village, Indiana and is a former 10 year 4-H member.

4 NEW FACES AT THE BENTON COUNTY EXTENSION OFFICE Macy Fawns is the new Agriculture and Natural Resources and 4-H Youth Development Educator. She began May 5 th and comes from the Northeastern Kentucky area. Macy graduated from Morehead State University in 2013 in Agronomy. Her main focus while in Benton County will be on 4-H during the next couple of summer months. After, she plans to get certified to re-certify farmers for personal pesticide applications. In the coming months, Macy is looking forward to experiencing the fair, coming up with programs for agriculture and natural resources and meeting farmers! Frances Garrett will be a junior at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods studying Equine Business Management and Equine Assisted Therapy. She is from Pine Village, Indiana and is a former 10 year 4-H member. This summer, Frances is in charge of the Clover Bud program and is helping out with the various other tasks that need to be done in the Extension Office during the busy fair season. This summer Frances is most looking forward to the fair! Stacy Gudas will be a fifth year senior at Purdue University in the fall studying Retail Management and Agricultural Communication. She is from Winamac, Indiana located in Pulaski County and is a former 10 year 4-H member. This summer as an intern, Stacy is learning about becoming an Extension Educator by shadowing and assisting Kelsie and Macy, as well as getting experience conducting programs at the libraries with a Captain Cash presentation that focuses on earning, saving, spending and borrowing. Stacy is most looking forward to experiencing a county fair other than her own and meeting new people! Page 4

Livestock AUCTION FACTS -Only one animal can be entered per exhibitor in the 4- H auction and it can not be breeding stock. -Multiple animals in multiple species can be entered into the pool.

Breeding stock is allowed in the pool. Pool price is based off of market price at the time of the fair. -During the week of the fair, auction and pool cards can be picked up from the 4-H office or barn superintendent. Separate cards are used for auction vs pool animals. A card should be filled out for each animal going through the auction and pool. Make sure to check the ear tags and weights of the animals and sign the back of the card once completing. Some exhibitors may need assistance from their parents. -Weights of animals are used from the livestock show bills. -Auction and pool cards must be turned in according to the fair schedule. Cards can be turned into the extension staff. -The auction fund takes a 1.5% fee off of auction checks in order to pay for buyer advertising, auction software, and postage for mailings. -Auction checks are mailed when all the exhibitors buyers have paid. Please make sure that the correct address was entered on the auction and pool cards so checks are received timely. A listing of buyers will be mailed with the checks so that thank you notes can be sent. -Any questions can be directed to the Extension office or Carrie Buck at buck.carrie@gmail.com. 4-H Japanese Exchange Program Host families still in needed to host a female Japanese student this summer from July 26 to August 16. If interested and to learn more about the students contact the Extension office.
