Seth comes from a hog showing background in Ohio. He attended Casper Community College in Wyoming and competed on their judging team. He then transferred to Colorado State University and competed on their team for the 2014 season. Seth was very successful and most notably won the hog division at the National Livestock Judging Contest in Louisville, Kentucky. We are excited to have Seth in Tennessee to judge at the 2018 Tennessee Junior Swine Show! 5 Have you thanked a volunteer lately? Have you considered the number of volunteers that have helped you to get where you are today? The Tennessee Junior Swine Show would not be possible without a large number of volunteers. These people have worked tirelessly to prepare for this event. Take some time to thank anyone who has helped you to succeed in this program. Swine Show Photography Contest Rules Exhibitors may enter no more than two photos. Photos must be no larger than 5 in. x 7 in. and may include a mat. No frames or glass are allowed. The photo must be accompanied by the digital file. The exhibitor s name, county and grade must accompany the digital file. The subject of the photograph must pertain to the swine project and must have been taken by the exhibitor. There are three age divisions: Junior (4th and 5th grades), Junior High (6th, 7th and 8th grades), and Senior (9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades). Once submitted, photos will become property of the University of Tennessee. Photos may be used by the University of Tennessee without restriction, and entrants will forgo any compensation for their use. All photos entered will appear on the Tennessee 4-H Livestock Program Facebook page. The photo with the most likes will receive an award. Cover Image The cover image was submitted by Abbie Lampley from Hickman County during the 2017 Hog Show Most Liked Photo Contest, where she received first place. 9 Purpose of the Tennessee Junior Livestock Program To aid the development of youth into responsible American citizens by: Teaching responsibility and developing self-esteem through working with animals that depend on the youth to provide proper feed, care and management. Teaching decision-making, communications, leadership and other life skills. Teaching the value, use and management of money through its investment in the project and realizing a profit or loss. Teaching sportsmanship and cooperation through participation in shows and working with other members. To help youth gain skills in: Selecting the kind of animal that will gain rapidly and efficiently while producing a highquality and safe end-product. Handling, managing and caring for livestock in a humane and ethical manner. Feeding animals for optimum growth and proper development. Training, grooming and showing livestock. Recordkeeping. To help youth gain an appreciation for: The role of the livestock industry in production agriculture and its contribution to the country and world. The value of properly planned preventative and responsive health programs. The importance of proper growth and development of breeding animals for building a productive foundation to establish purebred and commercial herds of their own.
