2 SESSION TRACKS (The following session track icons will be used to identify the different discipline areas of interest) Small Districts and Charter Schools: Focuses on financial, budgetary, public relations, and the legal issues that affect small districts and charter schools where one individual has many areas of responsibility. Business/Finance Resource Management: Provides expertise on the effects of financial management on budgeting, financial planning, accounting, and financial reporting; cash management, investments, and debt management; and financial technology for school business operations. Leadership and Management Development: Addresses personnel management concepts and leadership styles, professional development, labor regulations, and employment agreements. Also, looks at the public policy, inter-governmental relations, and the legal issues that affect schools. Maintenance/Operations and Purchasing Management: Focuses on the latest in school planning and construction, purchasing, supply and fixed-asset management, contract management, school maintenance and the environmental aspects of school operations. Information Management: Deals with critical information on strategic planning, instructional support programs, and management information systems.. Support Services: Brings attendees up-to-date on issues involving: Transportation, Risk Management or Food Service. 2

This session will explore the effort within the Boulder Valley School District and Mapleton Public Schools to rework and improve their compensation systems. The presentation and panel discussion will provide for audience interaction and deliberation of structures, theories, philosophical direction and implementation of a compensation system. Workshop 3. Presented by: Eric Smith, Strategic Partnerships Director, Forecast5 Analytics Description: If you are looking for a tool to forecast out your budget, look at history data all in one location, look at transportation information or even compare district information this session is for you. Forecast5 Analytics provides powerful data analytic and collaboration tools to help school district leaders drive strategic and financial decisions with better information. By utilizing this proprietary Business Intelligence software, schools spend time analyzing rather than trying to find data. The Forecast5 platform includes interactive visuals and the opportunity to perform collaborative analytics. Local governments are quickly gaining meaningful insights across several disciplines of financial management including budgeting, compensation, staffing and strategic planning. This session will be a panel presentation/discussion in the areas of school finance, nutrition, grants, audit, and capital construction. The session will continue into a second breakout that will be for questions and answers relating to any of the topics discussed Another Day, Another Data Breach. How to Minimize Impact from Data Loss. Your school district has and will continue to give its credentials away to attackers. Your passwords are compromised. Let s discuss what we can do to minimize damage in world of constant data breaches and compromises Designing Buildings for Challenging Environments. The session will be a question and answer with several of staff members that would include several different disciplines in the areas of school finance, nutrition, grants, audit, and capital construction. So if you have any questions that you would like to ask CDE staff attend this session Do Your Procurement Practices Meet the Regulations for Federal Programs? Speaker(s): Megan Johnson, Colorado Department of Education, and Jodi Cates, Managing Director, BKD, LLP Description: Federal funds come with specific procurement regulations. Do your school district practices and procedures meet Federal regulations (2 CFR 200)? Learn about expectations and documentation from a panel of CDE program specialists and school district auditors. 7

8 Coordinating Charter Issues into the District s Work. Speaker(s): Colorado Association of Charter School Authorizers members and charter partners. Description: The Colorado Association of Charter School Authorizers (CACSA) is a membership organization that brings together the people in School Districts and the Charter School Institute (CSI) who oversee charter schools. These authorizing staff often serve as a liaison to the charter schools in the district, as well as coordinating with all their colleagues in the district. In this session, CACSA members will discuss how the CSI and Colorado districts work to better integrate their charter-focused work with all the other administrative functions of the district, while still meeting the needs of charter schools and local families. Topics include performance management and contracting, state and federal grant monitoring, as well as how to involve charter schools in district planning Testing for Lead in Drinking Water. Speaker(s): Patrick Pfaltzgraff, Colorado Department of Health Description: Learn what the requirements are for public schools to test for lead in drinking water, what programs are available to assist, and what the future may entail. Break :00 P.M. 3:15 P.M. Best Practices Sessions :15 P.M. 4: 30 P.M Grab Bag of Employment, School Safety & Operational Best Practices. Speaker(s): CSDSIP Risk Control Staff Description: This session will highlight best practices that schools can use to reduce their loss exposure in areas that we are seeing high claim severity and high claim frequency. This includes best practices for employment such as hiring, firing and employment related issues, for school safety such as utilizing of the threat assessment model developed on the Colorado Schools Safety Resource Center s guide, creating a culture of awareness in the school community and facility safety surveys as well as operational best practices such as who is signing your contracts and how are they reviewed? 8
