2 4-H News Saturday Clover Kids Saturday Clover KIds had a Hauntingly Healthy Halloween themed meeting in October. 29 youth spent the morning learning about sometimes foods and every day foods by Laura Liechty, Region 4 Youth & Nutrition Coordinator. With Halloween approaching Laura also talked about sugar content in food and what added sugar vs natural sugar is. The participants had a chance to get their hands slimy during our pumpkin investigation. To end the morning youth learned to make healthy snack alternatives, ghost bananas and pumpkin oranges. The clover kids went trick or treating for the Allamakee County Food Shelf and were able to donate 26 lbs. of food! Youth are also encouraged to bring in any left over Halloween candy to the Extension Office in return for a goody bag. All candy collected will go to Operation Gratitude and sent to our military. If you have questions about the Saturday Clover Kids Program please contact Becky Rea at beckyrea@iastate.edu.
