3 FROM THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Dear Loper Fans, Greetings from the University of Nebraska Kearney! The Lopers are coming off of an exciting fourth year in the Mid- America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and we hope you are ready to be a part of more great things in the academic year ahead. Since joining the MIAA in 2012, UNK has won seven conference titles. Over the last three years, our average finish per sport in the league ranks fifth of 14 schools. This past year, six Loper teams finished in the top three of the MIAA and 13 of our 17 sports were in the top six in league standings. Fourteen of our 17 sports earned a team grade point average above 3.0 in Thirteen teams had over a 3.25 GPA. Our spring term grade point average for all 432 student-athletes was above 3.20! The Lopers also performed more than 6,500 hours of community service, giving back to the city that has treated us so well. We participated in reading events at local elementary schools, spoke to middle school students about sportsmanship, built homes for Habitat for Humanity and helped keep our community clean during our annual service days. We want our student-athletes to have the best experience possible while in Kearney. We also want them to be the best in all they are doing: in competition, in the classroom and in our community. Our athletic department is prepared to fund approximately 100 scholarships across our 17 sports this coming year. Over the past three years, we have annually increased our allocation by six to eight scholarships. We hope to reach 125 full scholarships within the next five years in order to move our programs to a more competitive level within the MIAA. Based upon last year s scholarship disbursements, Loper Athletics ranks 10th in the conference in total athletic scholarships. In an effort to increase the support for our programs, we have decided to integrate our season ticket package offerings to include an opportunity for you to give to the Loper Fund for Loper Nation and receive additional perks and benefits. Coordinating these efforts will make it more possible for our programs to attract the best and the brightest student-athletes AND to provide them with the best experience possible while on our campus. Your consideration of a gift to the Loper Fund for Loper Nation and willingness to purchase season tickets is greatly appreciated. Every donation, no matter the size, helps make an impact in the lives of our outstanding student-athletes. Thank you for your continued support. Go Lopers! Paul Plinske, Ph.D LOPERTICKETS.COM 3
4 INTRODUCING THE LOPER FAN GUIDE DEMI HIGGINS SEASON TICKETS LOPER NATION Loper Athletics is proud of Loper Nation, one of the best fan bases in NCAA Division II Athletics. The Lopers ranked 2nd in the MIAA in athletic attendance for the year, increasing in every ticketed sport from the previous year. UNK Men s Basketball and Volleyball also finished in the top 5 nationally in attendance during the year. For the 2016 academic year, Loper Athletics has combined the efforts of the Loper Fund and UNK Season Tickets to give Loper fans an improved process for supporting student athletes. Instead of an increase in ticket prices, Loper Athletics is asking for a donation for every season ticket purchased. This process is similar to those of rival institutions in the MIAA. However, the minimum donation requested is $25 per ticket and is designated to the Loper Fund for Loper Nation, providing direct scholarship support for UNK student-athletes. This amount is lower than most MIAA schools where the different schools require their season ticket holders to donate a minimum of $100 per season ticket purchased. Introducing the Loper Fan Guide. This brochure will be your once a year opportunity to purchase UNK season tickets and contribute to the Loper Fund. Loper fans will also have the opportunity to receive Loper Nation Benefits with their donation. These benefits are a way of saying thank you for supporting our student-athletes and for being a part of Loper Nation. GO LOPERS! 4 UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT KEARNEY ANDREW JENSEN
5 WHAT YOUR DONATION TO THE LOPER FUND SUPPORTS Enrolling the best and brightest student-athletes begins with scholarships. The Loper Fund serves as the UNK Athletics Department s annual fund, which provides programmatic support for all 17 varsity sports. Rather than making several contributions throughout the year to specific booster clubs, donors can make one annual gift to The Loper Fund for whichever sport(s) they prefer. Of the 94 UNK Athletic scholarships awarded in , 13.5 were from donations to The Loper Fund. Growing The Loper Fund is critical to the future growth and potential enhancements of the UNK Athletic Department. By making a gift to The Loper Fund, you are helping UNK secure its place as a leader in NCAA Division II Athletics.
