Chocolate Drop Cookies Issue 8 December 2016 Town Supervisor, John Berger s hours are as follows: Thursday & Friday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Saturday by appointment call ext c. brown sugar ½ c. melted Crisco 3 Tbsp. cocoa ½ c. milk 1 ½ c. flour ¼ tsp. baking soda ½ tsp. baking powder ½ c. chopped nuts ¼ tsp. vanilla 1 egg, beaten ½ tsp. salt Mix sugar with melted Crisco, cocoa, and vanilla. Add beaten egg and milk. Stir in dry ingredients. Add chopped nuts. Drop by spoonfuls on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes. Broadband A Round 2 application in the competition for funding for rural broadband was submitted this November. MTC could apply only for eligible census blocks in town. Other areas must wait for Round 3, because they involve an application for targeted federal Connect America funding areas as well as state funding. The Round 2 grant will cover over 400 passed over homes in Lexington. MTC will run over 80 miles of fiber as part of its Lexington Round 2 project. Hook-ups proposed are Fiber To The Home (FITH); the future proof, high speed, high cap broadband we were hoping for. That is more than half the homes Lexington presents for counting. In addition, one component of the Round 2 application is coverage of over 200 uncovered homes in Jewett. Announcement of awards for Round 2 are scheduled for the end of January. MTC has already submitted a letter of intention to go forward with a Round 3 application for Connect America and NY State funding on our behalf. Mountaintop Golden Agers Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month, 1:30 PM in the Tannersville Village Hall on Main St. WAJPL Golden Agers Meetings are held on the first and third Monday of each month, 1:30 PM in the Windham Town Hall, Route 296 in Hensonville.

True) Hunting and Wildlife Expo Since 2013, the annual Hunting and Wildlife Expo has grown in popularity. Hunters from all over the mountain top brought and mounted their trophies for display in the Community Hall in West Kill on October 1, Their families, friends and many others came to enjoy the day looking at the variety of animals that have been hunted. Organizers collected numerous items for a Chinese Auction. Members from the West Kill -Lexington Community Improvement Association provided refreshments. Approximately $4, was raised for the Wounded Warriors. Hunting & Wildlife Expo Chinese auction. LHS Archival Day Chicken Soup LHS Archival day Shelby Mattice presents Lexington Historical Society The Lexington Historical Society Archival Day was held on October 22 nd. They had their new 2017 Barn Calendars for sale as well as many LHS memorabilia. Items like tee-shirts, pillows, and teddy bears, are great gift ideas and support the Lexington Historical Society. They had homemade chicken soup (made by Irene Barnum), and plenty of sweets for the bake sale. The building was open to view some of the many items displayed by the historical society. Shelby Mattice, Curator for the Bronck House Museum, presented Chocolate, A Not So Sweet History. The LHS also took part in the Holiday Market at the Lexington Methodist.

3 Big Valley Trail Breakers Come and join the BIG VALLEY TRAIL BREAKERS snowmobile club. When snow permits, join them on trail rides and trips during the winter. For more information please call or them at bigvalleytrailbreakers@yahoo.com Little Free Library The Hunter Library has set up a small structure in the space at the "store", next to the Lexington Post Office, called the Little Free Library. They have put books inside that can be borrowed at will. The idea is to take a book/leave a book. More info can be obtained on line at Know your Neighbor S. Rossignol Builders is run by Steven Rossignol and his business was established in He is a general contractor specializing in residential carpentry. His company does additions, renovations, framing, roofing and siding jobs and custom built new homes. Many new homes and projects have been built ranging from a few thousand dollars in cost to a few million dollars. His work can be seen throughout the Catskill Mountains. He learned the building trade from talented carpenters including Dan and Tim Niekrewicz from Rhinebeck NY and Art Davis and Gary Coe from Windham, NY. He uses only top quality subcontractors for electric, plumbing and heating, etc. He resides in beautiful Lexington, NY with his wife and two children in the home that he custom built. His business office is located at Mosquito Point and his number is (518) Volunteers are needed to help organize the Thunder in the Mountains Car Show for July. Help is needed with donations, food, music, and general attendance. Lexington_events@lexingtonny.com or call Mary at Scrooge & Son The final three performances of Scrooge & Son were on stage at the Orpheum Performing Arts Center in Tannersville on December 2 nd, 3 rd, and 4 th. I was lucky enough to see this show each year, twice this year. The quality of acting, directing, sound, and stage are as good as anywhere. With a cast of local actors, dancers, and local-residents working behind the scenes to make this a success. They kept audiences entertained throughout the show. Laughter, dance and plain old mean Mr. Scrooge were better with each showing. Lexington resident, and Director Jim Milton assures me that although Scrooge & Son is no longer in the neon lights, there will be other performances to follow. Thank you to the cast and crew for a delightful Catskill Mountain twist to a wonderful classic Christmas story.

4 Lexington Historian Janice Barcone was appointed as Town Historian and Mary Palazzolo is Deputy Historian. Welcome aboard. You can contact them at Yoga Classes "All-level" yoga classes are held twice a week in the court room at the municipal building. Students of all levels are welcomed. Call Anne Donovan RYT at for the schedule. There is a suggested donation of at least $5.00. Jewett Nutrition Center All persons (age 60 or older & spouses) can go to the Jewett Nutrition Center for lunch. An entrée with vegetable is served daily with bread w/ Promise Spread, milk, coffee, & tea. Lunch reservations are required at least one day in advance. Simply call Lunch is served about noon. Suggested donation is $4 You can get the upcoming menu at: In Education The Class of 2018 held a spaghetti supper on October 23 rd. The All County Concert which included students from HTC was held in Cairo on November 4 th. As always, this is a well-attended and worthwhile event. There were concerts at both the high school on December 7 th, and the elementary school on December 14 th. Inspired by their music teacher, Mr. Mecca, and several students at HTC sent cards to those less fortunate. They wrote inspirational words and well wishes on the cards. Among those who took part were Audra Rossignol, Lindsey Coons, Jordan Jacobs and Erica Petosa. For their efforts, they received a school spirit award. Students return to class on January 3, 2017 after the holiday break. The Board of Education meeting will be held in Hunter from 6:30 to 7:30 PM on the following dates: January 19, 2017, February 16, 2017, and March 16, Current prices: butter 20 per lb. beef and pork 5 per lb. January 1887 Brick Garden Update We hope that you are looking forward to spring when you can come and see the brick garden on the grounds of the Lexington Municipal Building. Holiday Spirit Helen Kerr, Shirley Van Valkenburgh, Susan Falke, Bette Knapp, JoEllen Schermerhorn, Louise Van Etten, Betty Hapeman, and Christine Dwon, of the Lexington Fire Company s Ladies Auxiliary packed and delivered 25 boxes to shut ins. They were filled with fruits, cookies, and candles. 5 Community Hall The West Kill -Lexington Community Improvement Association, (AKA: Community Hall Association) is holding a meeting to discuss rehabilitation and repair plans for the community hall building on Spruceton Rd. The meeting will be held in the Lexington Municipal Building on Route 42 on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 7:00 PM. All members of the community interested in joining the Association, as well as old and new members are invited to attend and discuss these plans as well as the range of activities and uses for the hall. Among the issues, we will need to discuss is repair of the heating system and installing insulation. Refreshments will be served.
