1 A Service Project of the Auburn Lions Club September 2017 Volume 7, Issue 2 Auburn News Lions Partner with Landmark National Bank for a Free Secure Shred Event September 23 Bring your personal papers for secure shredding to Landmark National Bank, 1741 N. Washington, on Saturday, September 23, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Document Resources, a division of Underground Vaults & Storage, will have their truck available to help Auburn residents safely dispose of old personal papers that have collected over the years. Each household is limited to five boxes or sacks of documents for shredding. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed for this purpose. Auburn Lions Club members will be available to unload your boxes/sacks for dumping into the shred truck. It will be quick, simple and an easy way to help residents out drivers won t even have to get out of their vehicles. The Auburn Lions wish to acknowledge the support of Free- State Electric Cooperative and the Auburn Animal Clinic as well as Landmark National Bank for their generous donations to help pay for this free community event. This opportunity will help clear out household clutter, preserve the environment, and securely dispose of documents containing personal, private information. This growing concern is an issue that Lions Clubs International has been addressing for years because of the damage it can cause to a person s sight. Now it has become a priority because of the ever-increasing number of people living with the disease. The Auburn Lions Club will offer a Diabetes Awareness & Information Fair on Monday, September 25, at the Civic Center, 1020 N. Washington. 2 Crafters & Vendors Registration for Oct. 7 Personal crafters and home-based vendors are encouraged to register early for booth space in the Auburn Community Center on Saturday, October 7 Auburn Fair day. The Center will be the site of the annual book sale conducted by the Auburn Community Library and there will be plenty of indoor space for others desiring to sell their products. No need to worry about the weather; inside is climate-controlled. Booth fees are $15 for a 8 x 8 space ($25 for 8 x 16 ). Space will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 8 a.m. the day of the Fair (sale time is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Each vendor must bring their own table but chairs will be available. To reserve your space, contact the Community Center at and mail your check to Auburn Community Center, P O Box 205, Auburn KS by October 1st. They will be promoting the upcoming Auburn Old-fashioned Christmas Party at the Auburn Community Center, Saturday, December 9. Again this year there will be plenty of games and crafts for children of all ages and a soup supper for all to enjoy. Again, there will be collections of winter hats, mittens, scarves for the YWCA s Safety & Empowerment Services and nonperishable foods and paper products for the Auburn Community Food Pantry. The Auburn Lions Club was organized on April 21, 1965 by a group of men who cared about this community. Later, when women were added as Lions in 1987, Auburn, too, welcomed women into the Club.
