Why wear a shamrock on your lapel? egend says that, in the 5th century, t. atrick used the three-leaf clover, or seamrog, to explain the triad of hristianity to the ruids in reland. he eltic religion had always considered the number three to be the most mystical and sacred number, sometimes referring to totality, or the sky, earth and underworld. elievers also thought that the seamrog plant had its own mystical powers, as its leaves turn up with an approaching storm. oday, people often confuse the shamrock with the four-leaf clover, but the two have different meanings, according to local rish customs. he four-leaf clover is meant to symbolize good luck; the extra leaf on the clover is not considered normal, and that makes it special. he four leaves represent faith, hope, love and luck, and it is believed that during pagan times in reland, a four-leaf clover was worn as a charm to ward off evil spirits. hamrocks, on the other hand, are simply a native plant of reland and today represent rish pride and tradition. augh ines: rin o a Q.
