An institution s authorized coaching staff members (see Bylaw ) may evaluate on only one day and may attend only one event on that day during this period. Such an event shall occur within a 30-mile radius of the site of the championship (Kansas City, Missouri). Coaches from the same institution who attend such an event shall attend the same event on the same day. Coaches shall not attend events that occur at the same time that any intercollegiate competition in conjunction with the NCAA championship occurs: Evaluation

4 VACATION PERIOD Vacation Period Expenses. The institution may provide the cost of room and board to student athletes (during official institutional vacation periods) in the following circumstances. If an institution does not provide a meal to its student athletes under such circumstances, a cash allowance may be provided (except for the permissible additional meal as described below), not to exceed the amount provided by the institution to institutional staff members on away from campus trips: (Revised: 4/17/07) (1) Student athletes who are required to remain on the institution s campus for organized practice sessions or competition during the institution s official vacation period. If the student athlete lives at home during the vacation period, the cost of room and board may not be provided by the institution, other than to permit the student athlete to participate in team meals incidental to practice sessions; (Revised: 1/14/97, 10/28/99, 5/26/06) (2) Student athletes who return to campus during the institution s official vacation period occurring during a regular academic term (not including vacation periods between terms) from institutional competition. Under such circumstances, room and board expenses may be provided beginning with the student athlete's arrival on campus until the institution s regular dormitories and dining facilities reopen. If the student athlete lives at home during the vacation period, the cost of room and board may not be provided by the institution; or (Adopted: 10/28/99, Revised: 5/26/06) (3) Student athletes who return to campus during the institution s official vacation period between regular academic terms (e.g., summer vacation period) from institutional competition that occurs at the end of the institution s playing and practice season or a segment thereof. Under such circumstances, room and board expenses may be provided for no more than a 48 hour period, beginning with the student athlete s return to campus. If the student athlete lives at home during the vacation period, the cost of room and board may not be provided by the institution. (Adopted: 10/28/99, Revised: 5/26/06) In addition, an institution, at its discretion, also may provide an additional meal (as opposed to the cash equivalent) to student athletes to meet nutritional needs as a benefit incidental to participation during each day of any vacation period, provided the student athlete is required to remain on campus to be involved in practice or competition. 5 VACATION PERIOD Student Athletes who live at home during the vacation period MAY NOT be provided the cost of room and board during the vacation period. The institution may also provide ONE extra meal (but not the cash equivalent) as a benefit incidental to participation during each day that they are required to remain on campus. All student athletes on the same team must receive identical meal allowances on intercollegiate trips and during vacation periods when studentathletes are required to remain on the institution's campus for organized practice sessions or competition. Such allowances may not exceed the amount provided by the institution to institutional staff members on awayfrom campus trips and may not be provided for a particular meal if the student athlete receives that meal (or its equivalent) from another source. During a vacation period, an institution may pay actual costs (not cash equivalent) for reasonable entertainment that takes place within a 30 miles radius of campus or practice site when the team is required to reside on campus.

6 VACATION PERIOD A student athlete may not participate in any countable athletically related activities outside the playing season during any institutional vacation period. Daily and weekly hour limitations do not apply to countable athletically related activities occurring during an institution s term time official vacation period. It is permissible for any athletics department staff member to furnish transportation to eligible student athletes to the campus from the nearest bus or train station or major airport in conjunction with practice and/or team travel relating to competition that occurs between the end of a final examination period of the fall semester and the beginning of the following regular term.

7 VACATION PERIOD It is not permissible to send holiday greeting cards to prospects, their relatives, or their coaches. The only permissible cards are plain postal service cards and approved institutional note cards. All extra benefits rules still apply during the holiday season; therefore, it is not permissible to give holiday gifts to studentathletes or their relatives. A student athlete may practice during the official vacation period immediately preceding initial enrollment, provided the student has been accepted by the institution for enrollment in a regular, full time program of studies at the time of the individual s initial participation; is no longer enrolled in the previous educational institution; and is eligible under all institutional and NCAA requirements.

9 PROGRESS-TOWARD DEGREE MID YEAR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Just a reminder of the NCAA s academic requirements for student athletes to compete in the spring semester. All student athletes must pass at least 6 hours in the fall semester in order to be eligible to compete during the spring semester. Student athletes must also meet the following GPA requirements: Freshman No GPA Requirement Sophomores Juniors Senior and 5 th Years 1.8 Cumulative GPA 1.9 Cumulative GPA 2.0 Cumulative GPA *Student athletes competing in post season championships or bowl games that occur between terms must pass at least 6 hours (with no additional GPA requirement) to be eligible for competition.

11 EMPLOYMENT A student athlete may receive compensation for teaching or coaching sport skills or techniques in his or her sport on a fee forlesson basis, provided: Institutional facilities are not used Playing lessons shall not be permitted File documentation is obtained and kept by the institution for the recipient(s) and fee of the lesson(s) The compensation is paid by the lesson recipient (or the recipient s family) and not another individual or entity Instruction to each individual is comparable to the instruction that would be provided during a private lesson when the instruction involves more than one individual at a time The student athlete does not use his or her name, picture or appearance to promote or advertise the availability of fee for lesson sessions

12 TRANSFERS Two year College A qualifying student who transfers to a member institution from a two year college must complete an academic year of residence unless the student meets the following eligibility requirements: Has spent at least one full time semester in residence at the twoyear college (excluding summer sessions). Minimum grade point average of Satisfactorily completed an average of at least 12 semester of transferable degree credit toward any undergraduate program at the certifying institution for each full time academic term at the twoyear college. A student athlete must receive an associate or equivalent degree in an academic or technical, rather than a vocational, curriculum. *Refer to Bylaw for non qualifiers Baseball midyear enrollee after the conclusion of the first term of the academic year, shall not be eligible for competition until the ensuing academic year.

13 TRANSFERS Four year College: SA shall not by eligible until one full academic (two full semesters) of residence has been fulfilled. SA shall be eligible for financial aid and practice. (Must have attended the previous institution for at least one academic year) Transfers Must complete one academic year of residence prior to engaging in competition, unless the following is met: Completed an average of at least 12 semester hours of transferable degree credit, toward any undergraduate program for each term of full time attendance at the two year college. Cumulative minimum grade point average of One year has elapsed since departure from the previous four year college. The student has graduated from the two year college.

14 EDUCATIONAL COLUMN Title: Terms and Conditions of Awarding Institutional Financial Aid Written Statement Requirement Signature from Financial Aid Authority (I) Item Ref: a Date Published: December 1, 2010 Educational Column: NCAA Division I institutions should note that NCAA Bylaw specifies that the institutional agency making an athletics financial aid award shall provide the recipient a written statement of the amount, duration, conditions and terms of the award. In addition, the signature of the financial aid authority responsible for awarding institutional financial aid to students generally must appear on the written statement prior to the statement being issued to, or signed by, a prospective or continuing student athlete. Further, the signature of the athletics director alone does not fulfill the signature requirement for offers of institutional financial aid from the financial aid authority. The following questions and answers are intended to assist the Division I membership with the application of this legislation. Question No. 1: Is it a violation to provide a written offer of financial aid to a prospective or continuing student athlete without the financial aid authority's signature? Answer: Yes. A violation has occurred if an institution provides a written offer of financial aid to a prospective or continuing student athlete without the signature of the financial aid authority. Question No. 2: May the signature of the financial aid authority be electronic? Answer: Yes. The legislation specifies that the financial aid authority may either sign or electronically authorize (e.g., electronic signature) the written offer of financial aid. Question No. 3: Is a National Letter of Intent (NLI) valid if the written offer of financial aid that accompanied the NLI was not signed by the institution's financial aid authority? Answer: No. NLI guidelines specify that in order for an NLI to be valid, it must be accompanied by an athletics financial aid agreement, and in order for the financial aid award to be valid it must have the signature of the financial aid authority. 16 REMINDERS DECEMBER 14 TH Fall Semester Closes DECEMBER 23 rd through DECEMBER 31 st University Closed JANUARY 10 th First Day of Spring Semester Classes Employment postcards available to student athletes in the Compliance office Any changes that may occur (COS, schedule additions/deletions) must be run through the Compliance Office for prior approval. If a new SA will be joining your team for the Spring, you must: Submit a COS & fill out any needed financial aid forms Send them to the Compliance Office to fill out NCAA paperwork Send them to the trainers with their insurance info If you have finished your season and have not turned in your Participation Report, please do so. They are late if they are turned in any later than 2 weeks after your season has ended.
